    Thanks very much for this explanation of counter-steering. When I heard it was only done above a certain speed , I thought it was something to do with gyroscopic forces in some way. Now I see that it isn't, although I do think gyroscopic forces do come into motorcycling.
    For me, the key moment was the brief shot of the plastic cup rolling on the ground. A conical shape has a small diameter at one end and a large diameter at the other. For a given rotation the larger diameter travels further causing it to turn. Counter steering does the same in that the initial movement of the handlebars making the bike lean. The lean compresses the side of the tyre the bike is leaning to into a slightly conical profile so the bike naturally turns at an angle or lean to the right or left. This is just like the plastic cup rolling on the ground, in that if a rule or such like is placed perpendicular to the cone it is at an angle or lean which is the equivalent of the lean of a motorcycle.
