    I was pleasantly surprised to see that Yggdra Union's art was done by Satoko Kiyuduki, one of my favorite artists, albeit not a very well known one. She wrote and drew the manga series Shoulder-a-Coffin Kuro, which is very creepy but also very cute. Also, it seems Yggdra Union is on Steam now and does go on sale sometimes.

      Oooooh that's a pretty nostalgic series. It had a really long but nice run. I really do like the art style of both of Sting's main artists during that era of their games both her and Sunaho Tobe. It's a lil sad that they aren't working with Sting anymore now though hopefully there's a chance if they make more titles in the future.
      Also yea I got Yggdra Union there during it's early access! That's how I recorded the clip because I couldn't figure out how to record a on portable console. 🥲

    That knights in the nightmare footage definitely is everyone first playthrough lol (not dragging weapon and use it on to the specified knight class)
    Something bizzare that the game has is a "talk" collection. If you hover your wisp (cursor) on to anyone (your knights, npc and even enemy) and press start, they will have say something.
    Sometimes some knights react to other people (even other knights) and maps. With how you have to sacrifice a knight into other ones make to get stronger and every stage only have so much turns. This is a lot to get

      @overworkedsalaryman  Před 9 měsíci

      Tbh I didn't about some of those even when I played the game all those years back. The footage was mostly just me playing around on the early stages on the mobile version of the game so can imagine I looked very scrubby XD.
      Thanks for sharing that though, it's really crazy to me even now how much detail went into that game with all the talks you mentioned. Shall go look more into those as well o7

      @@overworkedsalaryman but honestly, playing knights in the nightmare properly is definitely a difficult experience even if you know all the mechanic the game had offer. Like my first completed run my character was very underleveled and i don't even know which knight is better and which one is worse
      Technically yggdra union also have something like this. Some class have geo bonuses like the knights class for example, they get a boost on power when on they're on bridge meaning that they have chance to win against axes (weapon disadvantage). If you use a card that has a weak element to ana enemy it will cause fatal damage. Like using the Banish (holy element) card skill on Roswell (or necromancers in general). Don't even get me started on item especially stat booster

      @@Mystinfernal Yea there was so much going on in knights in the nightmare at first that it really does feel quite challenging to do well on first playthrough. With the weapons especially early on there's so much to figure out that it's both fun but confusing XD
      With yggdra union items rlly did feel like they played quite an interesting part in the balance too yea. Especially on the first playthrough when there was a need to balance using them and also healing morale.

    I played Riviera back when I was too young to play complicated RPGs and it really made an impression as one of the first games of the era that sort of had this theme of opportunity cost - limited-use everything, lots of mutually exclusive or missable paths, that sort of thing. I don't know what I'd think today but it had a lot of character.
    Then I was too poor as a kid to ever have a DS and so never played Yggdra Union / Knights in the Nightmare, but I really should give them a shot again.

    • @overworkedsalaryman
      @overworkedsalaryman  Před 9 měsíci

      Same here that was around when I first tried it. XD
      I remember as a kid scribbling down the forest puzzel on a notebook trying to figure it out and taking quite a while on that. Really with each passing year I start to appreciate it more with how well they did the limitations on stuff be it the passage of time so areas open or get sealed off on stages or the items too especially for things like staff in particular.
      Really glad they announced a remaster for Riviera coming out in the future.
      Yggdra Union is on steam and getting periodic discounts and Knights in the Nightmare is on smartphone (no ads but the game costs money though the demo lets you play a fair bit in before deciding to pay) so both should be way more accessible now!

    I love Sting games. Riviera is definitely my first. Their Dept. Heaven series is surely an acquired taste. Its kinda sad that no indie devs besides Ruminants Whimper(the creator of Radio Zonde and Hellsinker) can do something weird yet so exciting. I feel loke my wish for such is now impossible.
    Ok I will try to describe each of the game from sting that I have played:
    Riviera - is one of the most eventful rpg I have played. It is kinda hindered by its grindy nature.
    Yggdra Union - getting all the obtainable items in this game adds a big layer of strategizing in this game.
    Knights in the Nightmare - one of the most incomprehensible UI and also the best game I have ever played.
    Gungnir - tactical rpg that no one would ever want to replicate. Enemy AI are way too smart in hard mode.
    Gloria Union - I am afraid of Undines.

    • @overworkedsalaryman
      @overworkedsalaryman  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Yea the games that Sting made really were something special. Riviera was one of the bigger games of my childhood as well and I remember playing it through many times when I was young. The rest of their titles as well like Yggdra Union, Knights in the Nightmare and Gungnir all were so unique as well that it made me feel sad knowing that the devs for those titles many of them aren't with the company anymore.
      Hopefully one day we'll see another company try stuff like that in the future as well but at the very least it feels like if there ever is one it'll prolly be an indie company at this point.

      Yea they were in the process of releasing Dokapon Kingdom when I went there for that video and there's a Dungeon Travellers game ported to steam recently too. Really hope they get back to making new titles at some point though it feels like they'll definetly need to build up a strong team to be able to do that again

    I love/hate Sting. I love their style and how unique their games are, but at same times they can be way to convoluted as you said, like Knights in the Nightmare, wish they would step back the mechanics a bit sometimes. And they better make new games, they still need to finish the dept. Heaven series haha. Just found your channel and being going thru the videos, loving your content so far.

      Glad the videos have been interesting so far for you!
      Yea their games are certainly very unique but at times they can get quite complicated which might chase away some new players too since there's so much more to take into account.
      Hopefully one day they'll manage to gather the talent neccessary to make a resurgence. Would've loved to join at the time but was still worried about my own level of experience so went to a smaller company focusing on dev first instead but maybe someday I'll try again...

    Sorry
    Bonjour et merci pour ta vidéo
    Que
    Je découvre aujourd’hui en faisant une recherche Sting ent.
    J’achète Yggdra Union ces jours ci sur Switch Europe / France
    Ma question est la suivante :
    Quelles sont les chances de localisation de leurs autres jeux sur cette série (Dept. Heaven ?) hors Japon sur Switch / Steam ?
    Ton avis
    Merci d’avance
    J’ai l’impression qu’il n’y a aucune chance pour un nouvel épisode en tout cas…
    Je regarde ta vidéo,

      @overworkedsalaryman  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hey there, I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
      From what I understood from talking to them, the chance of a new entry in the series is low because most of the people who worked on the dept heaven series back in the day have left the company. That said, they are interested in making more for it nonetheless so if the chance ever presents itself in the future they might actually do it if they can find the right devs to.
      As for localisation of the titles I think the chance of that should be high although idk how long they'd take to do it. The head of the company there seems very passionate to have their previous titles preserved for all to play so I believe that the chance of a localisation of past titles should be as a result something that will happen.

      Merci infiniment déjà pour répondre, c’est appréciable. Je comprends bien par rapport à un nouveau jeu, je ne m’attendais pas à mieux comme situation,
      Par rapport aux localisations j’espère pour eux et pour nous, vu la qualité des titres,
      Même le jeu : « Baroque » !
      J’achète le Yggdra Union sur Switch ces jours ci
      Il est en promotion
      J’hésite même à le prendre plein pot, pour le soutien
      En tout cas le jeu : « Knights in the Knightmare » est le jeu que mon cœur attend le plus.

      Hello to you too and much respects 🙇
      It is quite unfortuanate that there isn't any localisation for Knights in the Nightmare either yea... especially since they already have it out on switch and mobile in JP. Though maybe they are waiting for the porting to be done before getting to work on the localisations so we can only hope.
      Really wish they make another remake for Baroque soon too! Really loved that game and it was quite fun playing the PS2 version again while making this video so I do hope it gets a HD remake at some point.
