Easy Chili Dogs on the Griddle - AWESOME CHILI SAUCE for hot dogs

- A quick weekend trip landed me craving Easy Chili Dogs on the Griddle with an awesome chili sauce. This recipe is incredibly easy and versatile. You can put this homemade chili sauce on hot dogs, burgers, or french fries. I started out making the hot dog chili sauce on the griddle in a skillet. After reducing it was ready to serve immediately. I also came up with an idea about steaming buns for the perfect complement. Topping these incredible chile hotdogs are completely up to you, but adding the finely shredded cheese was the secret.

Your chili sauce recipe is spot on! Made these hot dogs for supper tonight. I added some diced bell pepper. I spllit the weiners lengthwise and fried them on the griddle. Added a slice of bacon inside the dog. Added some sauteed shallots on top of the bacon. Topped with the chili sauce, cheese, finely shredded cheddar, and finely diced onion. Enjoyed with an ice cold Blue Moon. Man, best hot dog on earth! Thanks for , once again, making our evening! Love and appreciate you two. Keep 'em coming!
Brings back memories when I served my Nathan's dogs and homemade chili, sauces and big 'ole baked potatoes to the students and faculty at The University of Tennessee five days a week from my hot dog cart for about 10 years. I miss those times. Good 'ole Rocky Top!
GBO
"I'm gonna check my buns", your wife didn't even hesitate. I can see why you put up with bacon dust. 😄 Really wish you two had a thing for Asian street food. So many cool griddle goodies...Keep rocking!
We have started to look into it.
My guests were BLOWN AWAY. 9/10 Gollys.
👊👊👊😂😂💥
Skyline!! My hometown
Chili dogs are the best! I love rolling dogs on the griddle.
Man its literally the best...sometimes its the simple things
He posts a video on chili dogs and now I have to update my grocery list and go to the store. A little coleslaw on the side and I’m good.
Great job
I tell you, sometimes you get the urge to have a great chili dog and buddy I think you nailed it! Both versions looked fantastic. Heading to your website now to download the recipe!
Amy should ALWAYS get the first bite !!!
Looks awesome!
Looks 🔥!!
That looks good. Thanks for the video.
Those chile dogs are a meal and a half. Nicely done 👑. Tennessee Lady Vols 🏀 4 Life. I🧡me some them. ✌️
GBO....big hire just now...seemed like an above average staff...only time will tell...
Can't thank you guys enough for the work you do. I've got my grill heating as we speak.
Heck yeah
Like this, got the griddle EZ recipe all over it. Good idea on the buns too.
SWEEEEEET!!!!!! You did good
Loved the stream bun trick! Pure genius :)😊
TY
Never thought of steaming the bun, really need to try that. Thank you.
Those dogs ull hunt! Delicious! Cheers y’all!
You got that right!
Another good one
Glad you enjoyed it
WOW Neal those chili dogs look so delicious. Really enjoyed your taste test 👍🏽. Definitely need to make some now.
Glad you came up with a chili recipe, looks excellent! The dogs look excellent!
Nothing makes me happier than a good chili dog!!! Those looked outstanding!!! 🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯
Me and the grandson love making Chili dogs on the flat top. Nice job
Looks good Navy! Love doing that during the week after work. Pretty fast chow. Love the bun steamer idea. Cheers 🍻
Great video! Go Vols!
GBO.....
I cook hot dogs all the time on my pit boss... they come out so much better. New England style split top buns... home-run!!!
I finally made a good smash burger. Now it’s time to try this chili and steamed buns. Thanks for the idea.
At a Navy base swimming pool the snack bar ("Gedunk"} griddled hot dogs were the meal of choice. But the dogs were split lengthwise leaving a small hinge. Then the dog was spread out on the griddle and a press kept the cut surface against the metal until it browned. Flipped once and lightly browned on the outside and then on the bun. That chili recipe looks perfect. Love the Dijon mustard pick.
Thanks for your service
OMG, you guys KNOW how to put it all together. Nice job looks BANGING. 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
Great job and the approvals from both at the same time, you know it was good !!Thanks for sharing with us Neil and Amy, stay safe around there and keep having fun while you two are videoing. OLD DAWG DREAMING Fred.
Holy cow, Neal and Amy!! Looks amazing!! And you two are blowing up, so awesome, guys!! 🎉
Man that looks so good. Love a chili cheese dog
"Ice cold....soda" yeah right! Looks outstanding, I'll have to try that chili.
Cool method to steam your buns! Great chili recipe👍😊
Thanks Bobbi
I love fluffy!
Dang! Cooked burgers & dogs on the smoker grill today and just watched this tonight! Timing is everything! Thanks for the recipe!
I just watched your old chili dog video last night with the beer cheese sauce and now this. 🎉
Heck yeah....
Awesome. I just need to cut that recipe in half and try it out.
save and freeze...you could even cut the potions down when freezing to use for a few dogs at a time...
Can't hardly beat a good chili dog....👍👍
Happy National hotdog day. Perfect timing. That sauce recipe was super close to the one I made! Love to you and Amy, brother ❤
👊👊🫵🫵💥💥💥
Looks awesome Neal! It's hard to turn down a good chili dog that's for sure.
Love the shirt! Go Vols!
GBO.....
Look at yaw!!! Eating in front of us!!!! And no invites!!!! Lol!!!
Keep up the good work!!!
Beautiful
Thank you
As a "conta-sorea" of fine hotdogs, those looked marvelous! I put a spiral cut around my dogs so it holds the chili on the dog a bit better. "Bone Api-tight"
We crave a good hot dog from time to time. The next time we do I want to try that chili recipe!
Stop. Stop stop you made me drool all over my laptop now!! Like the steam rack setup neat tip! Keep up with all these cool cooking ideas! Your meat sauce is very close to mine I add more hot and spicy to my chili….I add a couple drops of Pure Evil Capsaicin Drops. My chili will put hair on a electric motor! Love the videos mate….keep grillin’!
OOOOHHHH no way for me...i would be in tears..ahahahhaha thanks bud
Good dawgs!
Yes sirrrr! 🤤🤤😮💨😮💨. Nuff said
Nothing like a good hot dog.
Can't wait till football season. That looks good👍
GBO....
That is some tasty looking tube steak. Love a loaded dog, and your sauce recipe looks great, I'll be making it sooner than later. That sauce, some onion, and a tad bit of mustard will be money 💰 . I can't wait!! 🤤
Son! We just did these this past weekend for Mama's birthday. Did the same as you. Put all kinds of condiments out on the table and everybody made their own. I even had a N.C. style with Coleslaw. I did have the cold bourbon though. lol.Much Love to you guys.
Sounds like I missed out….
I have fallen in love with using split top buns for hotdogs
Absolutely....i sell em...ahhahahah
We did this yesterday. We are from Appalachia like you, so we know chili dogs. We have had a go to chili recipe for several years, topped with homemade slaw. I begged the boss to let me do it like this, she was very pleased. I loved it. Although we did toast our buns. Two chili covered thumbs up brother! Great stuff! Oh, we’re using the left over chili on some tots with chili, cheese, diced onions and jalapeños tonight… sonic style.
That is awesome!....we did something similar with leftovers to stretch it...added beans and tomato sauce...then made walking tacos for the kids....
Nothing like homemade chili. Give Better Than Bouillon Chili Base a try sometime. Add to taste after the chili is done as a final touch. Chili always seems to better the next day…if patience allows the wait.
Good technique on steaming the split top buns.
Thanks for the tips!
I made this and my family said it was the best chili sauce ever.
Heck yeah.
think that chief that doged you on the eags is puttin this in his box of good chili
Nice tshirt.Go Vols. Also Navy Vet here.
first thanks for your service....and GBO
Mmmmmmm, That was some good looking hot dogs, I will sure try those out. I like the idea that the chili is simple to make to. Try to stay cool and keep these videos coming. Oh , you should start selling that cool apron to.
We are looking at options....thanks
Awesome vid! We do hot dogs a lot at my house. Usually Nathan's, but my oh my if you haven't ordered some "big dogs" from Nueske's, those have got to be the greatest gourmet dogs on the planet! Same as their bacon. I really liked your steaming method too. If you want to do it Orange Julius style, you put the finished dog back in the steamer for a minute to melt the cheese. Lastly, I like your chili method. Most of the hot dog specific chili recipes I've come across tend to have some sweetness, but looking at your lineup, I think yours would fit into the savory category and I plan to make it soon, and I'm guessing it will become my go to method going forward. Thanks for all you do.
👊👊
I love your bun steamer! Thinking you could make up your dogs, load them up with chili & cheese and melt the cheese and keep them warm on the bun steamer.
I like a slice of American cheese in the bun, dog then chili and onions. Steamed a bit, those would be spot on.
Now I want a dog!
Hahaha absolutely
There used to be a small deli just after the Henley Street bridge in Knoxville, maybe it was called Smoky Mountain Market, that old guy was a hot dog man
I grew up literally walking distance from there...
I like your channel, very informative. One suggestion, and this is geared more for the people new to working a griddle. It would be very helpful to tell the viewers at what temp you are cooking your food at? Not necessarily High, med or Low because all griddles run differently, but more the actual temp. using a gun. Griddling can be intimidating for first timers and and it easily to get over whelmed in the beginning . 100F difference can make or break a recipe so it would be nice to let the viewers know what temp you're cooking what at by using a temp gun. Eventually it's becomes intuitive the more you cook, but bear in mind you always have new people to griddling watching you. Temp guns are readily available on line and are not expensive. Every kitchen should have one IMHO. BTW, I'm from Cincinnati and appreciate the mention of Skyline I love it, hope you did too.
about 3 oz
Theres no bigger argument in Cincinnati than skyline vs goldstar. Personally i am a goldstar guy. Like i said i am born and raised in cincinnati but also have Tennessee in my blood since i have been going to norris lake for 30+ years, my parents are retired and live there
This was posted on National Hot Dog Day. Nice call. Those looked like Nathans Jumbos. I get them occasionally. I like to use a Brat bun so my toppings can hold in the bun better. I like your technique of steaming the buns. Much better than having a separate appliance to have around.
July 27 is National Chili Dog Day. I am sure to celebrate it with my own Chili Dog Sauce. Not sure if I will use Nathans ro a Natural Casing Beef Hardsmoked dog. Decisions, decisions.
Awesome video I make A 4 meat hot dog chilli Sauce I use Burger Turkey Burger Sausage and Turkey Bacon soo good
Good stuff
Im from Cincinnati. Skyline and Goldstar, we know all about some chili dogs or as we call them Coneys
Looks amazing. I'm not sure if I'd ever call chili a "sauce" because it's a meal all on its own. The main thing to remember if you make your own chili is give it time to blossom. When I make mine it takes about an hour and a half before I know if I need to tweak the spices a little and at about the 3 hour mark it's finally ready. Before that it's just not come together yet. Next day is always better too.
We made leftover walking tacos.
Dude. I have to admit, I about crapped myself when I saw you pour water all over that burger. I get it, but it triggered some sort of shock/horror response. My ground beef is reducing in water as I speak. 😀 Thanks again!
That looks really good. Have you tried Bear & Burtons W Sauce instead of standard Worcestershire?
not yet...
I love Skyline and Goldstar chili on a hotdog! I found them both while serving in the Navy through friends during a cookout. We did the best cookout of my lifetime after a deployment where family members sent to us in Washington staples from home. Is this similar? Those options are hard to come by in Oklahoma!
Hey thanks for your service....Yes its very similar but not cinnamon....I would make it with out and add if you think you would like it...
Your Vols got off easy on the violations. Your orange is the wrong shade for my neck of the woods. 😂
Were they better than your local Pal's? Those are some good dogs but their fries are even better! Great video as usual!
I have never had Pals....
@@TheFlatTopKing check it out. They're a Tennessee tradition!
@@mikedefalco7791 quite a bit away from us. Heard about it but easily 1.5 hours or more away
I live in Ohio and there are Skyline Chili restaurants in my area. Though I prefer the old school coneys from the classic drive-in type restaurant, I do like Skyline once in a while. Let me tell you without even tasting it, your chili dogs would blow Skyline out of the water. I could have eaten that chili sauce straight out of the pan with a spoon!
Hey I appreciate that......we loved em
Never seen chili made made this way.
It isn’t chili, it’s chili sauce.
Just need to on sprinkle a bit of celery salt.
Perfection 10 out of 10 fatboy approved good job. I will be printing the recipe thank you 😊
Heck yea....
Better than the varsity in Atlanta 🔥
Man its been a while...I was a kid....but I can say its dang good...
Hey Neal. Idea: Maybe a couple/few low FODMAP griddle recipes? My beautiful girlfriend has to deal with IBS and can't handle onions, garlic, and anything else that has fructans. Is there any possibility of doing some that are low FODMAP compliant? BTW, these look AWESOME!!
I will look into it..thanks bud
I’ve yet to find a good hotdog chili from a can gonna make yours
Thank you for not putting beans in that chili. I would have had to stop watching ya. HAHAHA Also looks so damn good!!
hhaah look at the comments for this same idea and the others asking where is the beans...its not chili its sloppy joe..ahahhahaha you all are nuts with it.....in a good way...
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
TY
And he used the right hot dogs. Im a Nathan’s man, and nothing else will do
You failed to mention that today was national hot dog day! Had 2 for dinner but with slaw
If I told you....you wouldnt believe me...we had absolutely..ZERO idea it was...no kidding....didnt even know till the next day...this was filmed two weeks ago and was only posted because one of our videos we wanted was not ready.....thats the honest truth...
I want to try the chili recipe, but it makes such a huge batch. I’m the only one eating hot dogs in this household, so can the unused portion be frozen, or can the recipe be cut in half? Looks so good!
It can...it also freezes well...you could even freeze in small portions...
I love grilled hotdogs, and I yours look outstanding 🌭🌭🌭. What if you added some bacon strips to the dog. My my, yum yum yummy 😋😋😋
I will be making some soon
@@TheFlatTopKing I hope so
Diced onions on top of the cheese? NO!!! LoL Onions top the meat sauce then the cheese goes on. The only thing that tops the cheese is hot sauce. Sounds as though you two enjoyed your visit to Our Cincinnati. Hope you visit again soon.
Those Cincinnati hotdogs look so good I had to get them at a reds game only to be so disappointed. Who puts cinnamon in chili?
I agree....weird they do....but apparently people love em....not for me...which is why we didnt add any
Nothing like soft buns with your hot dog, yummy…
Add cole slaw and you have a West Virginia hot dog!
Absolutely
You are forgetting the best topping. HOT SAUCE, and the nustard ways goes on the bun!
Have you ever browned the meat first before adding the other ingredients?
I have not...when making this type...making regular yes
Add beer to the chili
Is there a leather apron?
Not at this time but we are looking into it
So if you don't have tomato paste in a squeeze how much from the can?
Same...4 table spoons...thats exactly why I buy the tubes...once opened it goes bad to fast...where as a tube just screw on lid
? put the finished product under the steamer to melt the cheese ?
Absolutely you could...when we had em the cheese was piled a mile high like this....when grated so thin....it just tasted different
Boom 💥 🦬💨💨💨💨💨💨💨💨💨💨💨💨💨💨💨
Thank you for no bean chili!
