Amanda Ward

Amanda worked for Margo MacDonald MSP and Patrick Harvie MSP on the Assisted Suicide (Scotland) Bill 2013. She founded the Cross Party Group on End of Life Choices in the Scottish Parliament, which she served as secretary to until 2020. A member and former Convener of the Law Society of Scotland's Health and Medical Law Committee, Amanda has recently submitted her PhD thesis, Scots Law on Assisted Dying and teaches various LLB Honours courses at Scottish Universities. From January 2022, Amanda will serve as Liam McArthur's advisor on the Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults (Scotland) Bill. In her presentation Amanda uses evidence from countries around the world that have legal assisted dying to debunk many of the common opposition arguments against assisted dying.
