  • Fairway woods don’t have a lot of loft. As a result, they can be difficult to hit high in the air. When you try to help the ball up in the air with your 3-Wood, it can be disastrous. In this video, Michael Breed shows you how to hit your fairway woods high in the air, without “trying to hit it high,” or helping it in the air. You’ll learn a great drill you can do on the range, on the course, or at home to develop the proper feel. Also important to note, this drill will help you elevate your ball flight with all clubs. Give it a try!

Getting the trail arm just under the lead arm is key to great strikes

Best video I have witnessed on using a fairway wood. New age teaching replacing the bunk of the past teachings. Want a shallower downswing into ball. Key is position of trail arm as you come into impact. Never mentioned in any of the many videos on this topic over the years and I have watched many being 80. Bent rail arm get trail shoulder lower than lead shoulder which is key to a shallower swing into impact.

Sir, aren’t you supposed to all the clubs same way? U have to shallow your swing in downswing with all the clubs. Correct me if I am wrong. I tried 3 wood all different way and as a high handicapper, I can not hit high or too far.

Hey, thank you Michael! I have new cobra woods and I’ve been really struggling with my new three Fairway wood for some reason. My new seven Fairway wood has been awesome. Thank you for the great lesson! I will be trying your great tip this weekend!

My problem seems to be more of not releasing the club head and hetting in front of the ball. Somehow, i have more shaft lean with longer clubs, woods and hybrids. This tutorial will be used next week at the range. Thanks!

Great demonstration! Need to get those fairway woods up in the air. Does this work for hybrids as well, especially the longer ones, say a 3 hybrid?

Hi Michael I have noticed that the ball position of the fairway wood is similar to driver ball position just thought it supposed to be about middle off the fairway ? Cheers.

How do you keep “knuckles down” with that feeling?
