    Its a shame that this does not have many views, its one of the better single brew day G40 focused videos on CZcams right now. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks for saying so mate. I really appreciate it. I've tried to give people an honest look at what it's like to use the system. If you're up for a long form discussion, I've recorded a chat with Gash from the homebrew network talking about our shared experiences with the G40 which premiers 8pm Aus time tonight.

    Excellent video. Great content, use of on screen info bubbles, all very nicely done. At some stage GF will probably offer a malt pipe for the G70 similar to the G40. I need to form an opinion if I go down that path. Thank you

    • @StassBrewing
      @StassBrewing  Před 2 lety

      Yeh, I'm not sure how the kinetics of the mash work with this malt pipe yet. Wonder if efficiency will drop too much if it's a taller malt pipe - like the G70. Will need to explore. Maybe grainfather might give me one to play with??? *wishful thinking 😅😅

    Hey mate great vid. Do you think that Bunnings pot holder castors will handle the weight ok or should I be looking at something more solid? Where are you and Gash chatting tonight? On your channel or his?

    • @StassBrewing
      @StassBrewing  Před 2 lety +1

      Cheers mate- It says its rated for 100kg. You could probably build something yourself with larger casters on some ply but I bought this for the G30 as a ready made solution. It's good enough. Gash and I will be on his channel (there should be a link in my post feed?)

    Are you running the on 15A or 10A 230v, interesting to see system in action.
    I'm interested in upgrading to a G40 and the price is good specially getting the couterflow chiller
    included is a bonus.
    The G40 ticks all the box's for a double brew, I enjoy making 40L Pilsner and pressure ferment in a Kegland
    stainless steel Kegmentor for the summer time.
    And small enough to brew for a 20L brew, best of both worlds.

    • @StassBrewing
      @StassBrewing  Před 2 lety +1

      As I said in the video I'm running 10amp, 230V 2200W. I tried to show what expectations you could have with performance with times and boil vigour. The homebrew network has done a 40L batch on his channel if you're interested. We also did a long form chat about the unit on his channel if you're interested. Cheers

    Fantastic video! You basically showed everything I had questions about on the GF G40. Man the longer power cord is already a big plus. Did you modify the tubing length to the counterflow chiller or is that the standard? If it is standard they basically fixed my biggest gripe with the old one which is the hoses being stupidly short unless you mod it. The cleanup looked like a breeze, basically my single biggest complaint about the G30 is having to take it out in the driveway and blast it with the hose then tip it out on the grass (stupidly short integrated plug in my pocket the whole time). Being able to hose it out and drain it clean in place has pretty much sold it for me. Couple follow up questions: Can you brew manual on it or does it require you to use the app? How is it on scorching to the element plate?

    • @StassBrewing
      @StassBrewing  Před 2 lety +1

      Yep, agree. It improves on all the annoying things about the G30. Hoses are standard length on the G40. I had recently lengthened the hoses for my G30 chiller so I could store it away from the G30. To answer your questions: you can absolutely use the unit in manual mode - I generally always do as I find the app still a little cumbersome and inflexible to use if I need to change things on the fly. Have had zero issues with scorching so far. I've had some issues with slow flow with larger grainbills but I'm still investigating the cause of that (I.e. is it crush or something else). Feel free to ask any further questions. If you're up for any longer vids, I did a good chat with Gash from Homebrewnetwork where we discussed G40 things. It's on his channel. Cheers dude

      @@StassBrewing Ah cheers bud that is great insight. Yeah i have the vid with gash on my watchlater. Really good to see them innovating and listening, that is one thing I really like about GF. Also great it can be set to manual. I have tried the GF app on and off over the years and never really liked their implementation of brewing software. One of my only remaining questions for now is can the box fit in the boot of a Tesla Model 3 :P

    If i would import a Brewfather BeerXml file to the Grainfather App. Would that cause any trouble for the original Recipe or Lautering and Sparging.
    Or should i just use the GF40 Controller manually.

    • @StassBrewing
      @StassBrewing  Před rokem

      I haven't imported a brewfather recipe to GF for a while but last time I did there were a few weird things that came over. I tend to use the gf in manual mode with brewfather as my timer.

    If you had pushed recirc pipe to bottom and turned on pump you would of got a better whirlpool, I think you added the chiller too early and that stopped you doing that

    *** BUYER BEWARE *** If your G40/S40 craps out, like my G40 did on it's 6th brew, GF WILL NOT REPLACE YOUR FAULTY UNIT UNDER WARRANTY!!!!!!
    Don't buy into this hype, this company doesn't give a crap about you as a consumer.
    They are currently trying to fix it while it sits on my kitchen floor... not sure osmosis is what's required here...
    *** BUYER BEWARE ***

    • @StassBrewing
      @StassBrewing  Před 2 lety

      What do you mean by "craps out"? If grainfather are trying to fix the problem I don't see what the issue is. If it's a fault with the unit and they don't fix the unit, that's a problem.

    • @globalscott5864
      @globalscott5864 Před 2 lety

      @@StassBrewing Yes, agreed. If they try to resolve it, but how on earth can you determine the casue of mechanical failure without inspecting the unit? The controller is wireless, but the unit is mechanical. Know any mechanics that can fix a issue on a car witout first inspecting and diagnosing the issue?
      Their support staff had me open up the base looking for the manual reset switch in the unit, problem is the G40 doesn't have one and their support staff had no idea that it didn't.
      This is why I stand by my view that their after market support is terrible.
      You may well say I'm just whinging, but after spending over $6700 in the last 6 months on GF equipment (G40, glycol chiller, 4 x fermenter pros, pressure transfer system), I would have thought they could have been a little more understanding and just replaced the faulty unit and then figured out what went wrong with it.
      Would you want to keep a faulty unit after on 6 brews? No thanks.

    • @StassBrewing
      @StassBrewing  Před 2 lety

      Well, if that is your experience then I totally understand. I can only speak to my personal (limited) experience with GF support. Like I said before though, Grainfather is an international company. They pride themselves on customer service. I can't blame them for trying to diagnose an issue before the costly process of shipping your unit back and a new unit to you. Yes, the person on the phone should know the design of the G40 (vs the G30 I'm assuming). I understand that you're not happy, but you should direct your energy toward Grainfather customer service. Good luck mate, hope you get it resolved.

    • @globalscott5864
      @globalscott5864 Před 2 lety +1

      @@StassBrewing I've been directing my energy to GF customer support this whole time. Only after constant refusal have I resorted to this.
      All good though, like you say that's my experience. If we don't share these experiences then nothing will ever change.
      Don't get me wrong here, I absolutely love the equipment (this is not about the equipment), I absolutely love the G40 and the gycol chiller with fermenters. Not their support team or their application of the 3-year warranty.
      Only after the direct threat of legal action this afternoon, the local brew shop where I got it chiming in did they finally come to the same conclusion I have been pointing at this entire time. My point is though it shouldn't be this hard if they are, as you say, and international brand that prides itself on customer experience.
      1/10 for customer experience this time. At least they can't get any worse?
