Hello good Sir good to see you :)
Nice to see you again Strass. And a great way to work yourself back into the homebrewing again. Right now next brew needs to be a 15% chocolate, vanilla and bourbon impy stout. Come on fella get at it!
I was only thinking a couple of days, I wonder what happened to Stass Brewing!
Great to see my favourite Aussie brewtuber back! Sounds like a great FWK and resulting beer for anyone who's short on time. Cheers mate 🍻
Well that was a nice surprise, seeing you pop up again. Always liked your beer reviews. 🍻
Thank you kindly.
Welcome back. Good to see you. 👍
Good to see you again! The beer looks wonderful. I wish we could get fresh wort kits here. Homebrewing in the US is in a steep decline. One big reason is folks here are making the hobby over-complicated and it's scaring away wannabe brewers. Now shops no longer offer tin-kits. I'm hoping people will wake up and realize how simple brewing is, whether all-grain, part-mash or extract. And like you said, fresh wort kits are a great way to skip a long brew day when needs must. Cheers!🍺
That's a real shame about the decline. However, I can totally see it happening. Homebrewers can be nerdy and passionate people who take things to the nth degree because they like tinkering. Not everyone wants that though. Fwks are a no trainer really!
Looks decent, great to see you back cheers 👍🍻
Oh, hello again!
Nice to see you Stass! Hope you and the Whanau are well much love to you all over there in Straya!! 👍🍻🍻
That's one thing I noticed on all the FWK from them. All the IBU's are way off. 5-10 IBU's, depending on what kit you get, seems way too low. Having said that, I haven't had any of them yet, though.
Yeh, they are on the light side of bitterness, but I see that as allowing room to boost if you want. Plenty of people drink low ibu beers. Cheers!
Oi Stass. Good to see your face.
Wow, I was looking at your channel yesterday thinking, I haven’t heard from Stass for a while, cheers mate
Thanks for paid advertisement. Has plenty of that on CZcams. Until Qualcomm proves and release, it's nothing more than marketing bullshit. And we know Qualcomm is full of bullshit over the years. And they are having bold claims about Snapdragon X over 4 years, yet nothing. In the meantime, when they (maybe) have something one can finally buy, Apple will have M4 Max in real products. With real, optimized software and years of experience doing this. Real artists ship. Steve Jobs.
That’s my cousins dad
Buying expensive small batch system is my most regretful live choises that i made .after few brews i realise 3 kegs brew system is the best .
Was pointed here by Jonas. Just did a review (in swedish) of a successor to this beer, the Coconut Vanilla Milkshake (5.7%). Jonas is a great guy and a fantastic beer maker! Great review. Cheers!
How am I only just seeing this now?!? Came up on my shorts feed now. Looks and sounds fabulous. Cheers Stass 🍻
Great review mate! You said here that you thought boil times were equivalent to the G30, but maybe not as vigorous as you’d like in the larger batch. Just wondering if this was on standard 240v? Be good to know I can avoid 15amp if possible
How do you know how many cells you are starting with when you do your next starter. My concern is I brew 12-14 gallon batches and use 2 packs of imperial yeast in a 4l starter.
what do you use to cool the water for the coil and how do you do it? grazie
It's just tap water, no additional cooling. Just hook up the chiller inlet coil to the hose/tap.
5 years later and you are still informing people of this awesome tip. cheers mate.
80 percent of the video was trash rant.
Wow, I know it's been a long time but thanks for this video! I'm about to get the new 31gal Unitank 2.0 and I wanted to see how to clean it, even though this is much smaller its the same procedure.
i wish people would not be shills so you could get a real review because the they arent checking on these reviews is utter rubbish
I don't understand your comment. I don't believe I'm being a "shill" as I clearly stated at the start that I was sent this unit from Grainfather (something that not all people disclose). And second, this was not a review. This was a brew day showing how the unit performed.?? Is there something specific you would like to know that was omitted? Let me know and I'll try and answer it for you. Cheers
Well done.
If i would import a Brewfather BeerXml file to the Grainfather App. Would that cause any trouble for the original Recipe or Lautering and Sparging. Or should i just use the GF40 Controller manually.
I haven't imported a brewfather recipe to GF for a while but last time I did there were a few weird things that came over. I tend to use the gf in manual mode with brewfather as my timer.
@@StassBrewing thank you sir. I will give it a try.
Not a bad video but you never “reviewed” the G40’s performance, features, likes, dislikes, etc. Your video should not have the word “test”.
But the brew day was just that; a test of a system I had not used before. I aim to do a proper review soon.
@@StassBrewing looking forward to your review, I find your videos enjoyable.
Cheers mate - sorry videos haven't been regular. Even a bit of a crazy year
do you know if the tri clover lid from the sf70 fits the grainfather s40?
Sorry, I don't know.
Grain to glass/tasting would be cool man :)

Wow man, that's easily one of the coolest 1-minute brewing videos I've seen in some time. Got a lot of info packed in there. Nicely done mate. Good to see you again.👍Cheers!🍺🍻
Haha, cheers. Was a personal challenge to have a 60 second vid. Dunno if I like it like that or not, but was a fun challenge. Cheers for the feedback
Good to see you back. Enjoy the 40th. If anyone can get that beer ready in time, it's you! Cheers mate 🍻
Glad to see you back. Cheers. Hope the Abernethy Bros come back too.
Nice, it’s getting close to kviek weather, cheers 🍻
Hi on the keg land website it says it’s only compatible with Australian Sofastream cylinder. What I have heard is that Australian and New Zealand sodastream cylinder are slightly different than rest of the world Which one are you using?
I'm in Australia mate. Kegland have said that they ship different threaded versions around the world so compatibility is ensures. Hope that helps
can you dry it right after ?
I probably wouldn't. If you wanted to dry yeast I'd look at top cropping.
What you've said Exactly 💯 what the issues are with this unitank. I own I can say that wish I would have gone with Spikes but I got this brand new in ebay for 600 + shipping which was 102.00 that's the only way I would have gotten this tank withe the CF5 and the the flex +
She's adorable!!
Fantastic video! You basically showed everything I had questions about on the GF G40. Man the longer power cord is already a big plus. Did you modify the tubing length to the counterflow chiller or is that the standard? If it is standard they basically fixed my biggest gripe with the old one which is the hoses being stupidly short unless you mod it. The cleanup looked like a breeze, basically my single biggest complaint about the G30 is having to take it out in the driveway and blast it with the hose then tip it out on the grass (stupidly short integrated plug in my pocket the whole time). Being able to hose it out and drain it clean in place has pretty much sold it for me. Couple follow up questions: Can you brew manual on it or does it require you to use the app? How is it on scorching to the element plate?
Yep, agree. It improves on all the annoying things about the G30. Hoses are standard length on the G40. I had recently lengthened the hoses for my G30 chiller so I could store it away from the G30. To answer your questions: you can absolutely use the unit in manual mode - I generally always do as I find the app still a little cumbersome and inflexible to use if I need to change things on the fly. Have had zero issues with scorching so far. I've had some issues with slow flow with larger grainbills but I'm still investigating the cause of that (I.e. is it crush or something else). Feel free to ask any further questions. If you're up for any longer vids, I did a good chat with Gash from Homebrewnetwork where we discussed G40 things. It's on his channel. Cheers dude

@@StassBrewing Ah cheers bud that is great insight. Yeah i have the vid with gash on my watchlater. Really good to see them innovating and listening, that is one thing I really like about GF. Also great it can be set to manual. I have tried the GF app on and off over the years and never really liked their implementation of brewing software. One of my only remaining questions for now is can the box fit in the boot of a Tesla Model 3 :P
Lol, it's a bit of a choad of a box. You know what they say, where there's a will, there's a way!
Ah great unboxing vid. Looking forward to seeing a brewday on it. heading over there now :)
Looks like shit comparing to Brewster beacon actually. Most functions of beacon are useless, but it looks much beter made
Sure, but aren't they like 4x the price?
@@StassBrewing in my country its 1.5 prices
Watching this in 6/18/2022 the US price has gone up to 1200 (0_0)
ouch!
Loved that beer. Was my favourite at GABS in Sydney this year. Can’t wait to get a case.
Looking at buying a Keg King Brewery system 70L which has quite a good starter pack with a few closely named in the range from looks like $629, $680, $759. Only issue I can see at the minute is that they all appear to be 15AMP. ANy words of wisdom on these bud?
Depends what your needs and priorities are. Batch size? Quality vs value? Power constraints etc.
Nice clear review. Cheers for this really appreciate. :)
Yeah mate, love to see the bottom off and how the pump is set up.
Just stumbled upon this video, I’ve got a packet of Philly sour and it’s time for a Berliner. Gonna give this recipe a go soon, thanks for sharing!!!
*** BUYER BEWARE *** If your G40/S40 craps out, like my G40 did on it's 6th brew, GF WILL NOT REPLACE YOUR FAULTY UNIT UNDER WARRANTY!!!!!! Don't buy into this hype, this company doesn't give a crap about you as a consumer. They are currently trying to fix it while it sits on my kitchen floor... not sure osmosis is what's required here... *** BUYER BEWARE ***
What do you mean by "craps out"? If grainfather are trying to fix the problem I don't see what the issue is. If it's a fault with the unit and they don't fix the unit, that's a problem.
@@StassBrewing Yes, agreed. If they try to resolve it, but how on earth can you determine the casue of mechanical failure without inspecting the unit? The controller is wireless, but the unit is mechanical. Know any mechanics that can fix a issue on a car witout first inspecting and diagnosing the issue? Their support staff had me open up the base looking for the manual reset switch in the unit, problem is the G40 doesn't have one and their support staff had no idea that it didn't. This is why I stand by my view that their after market support is terrible. You may well say I'm just whinging, but after spending over $6700 in the last 6 months on GF equipment (G40, glycol chiller, 4 x fermenter pros, pressure transfer system), I would have thought they could have been a little more understanding and just replaced the faulty unit and then figured out what went wrong with it. Would you want to keep a faulty unit after on 6 brews? No thanks.
Well, if that is your experience then I totally understand. I can only speak to my personal (limited) experience with GF support. Like I said before though, Grainfather is an international company. They pride themselves on customer service. I can't blame them for trying to diagnose an issue before the costly process of shipping your unit back and a new unit to you. Yes, the person on the phone should know the design of the G40 (vs the G30 I'm assuming). I understand that you're not happy, but you should direct your energy toward Grainfather customer service. Good luck mate, hope you get it resolved.
@@StassBrewing I've been directing my energy to GF customer support this whole time. Only after constant refusal have I resorted to this. All good though, like you say that's my experience. If we don't share these experiences then nothing will ever change. Don't get me wrong here, I absolutely love the equipment (this is not about the equipment), I absolutely love the G40 and the gycol chiller with fermenters. Not their support team or their application of the 3-year warranty. Only after the direct threat of legal action this afternoon, the local brew shop where I got it chiming in did they finally come to the same conclusion I have been pointing at this entire time. My point is though it shouldn't be this hard if they are, as you say, and international brand that prides itself on customer experience. 1/10 for customer experience this time. At least they can't get any worse?
Hope it all gets resolved mate
