  • There are few things more satisfying than crafting your own adventure, and, in this lesson, you’re going to learn how Gaia GPS adds art to exploration. The best place to start creating your own adventure using Gaia is on your computer. So, in this lesson, we’ll start by firing that up and going to gaiagps.com. The big screen makes it easier to plan, and everything syncs between your account’s devices.

Great tutorial. When creating my own adventure I'm typically miles from the nearest road or trail. I find it much easier to create the route using Google Earth, save it as a KML file and then convert it to a GPX file, allowing the elevation profile information to be visible in GaiaGPS. The combination of using Google Earth and GaiaGPS is the most efficient way for me to create truly custom, off trail routes.

You save the best tip for last. Import GPX files by drag and dropping them onto the map, that is super helpful.

Great tutorial other than it didn’t mention the problem I’m having. Namely I was using it to record our walk and when back at the house couldn’t figure out how to get it to stop recording and save.

I’m out in the field. I created a route. How can I see the elevation profile of that route. I’ve spent 30 minutes on your app and it’s still not able to be seen.

How did you activate the Snap to Trail feature? Help doesn't help. You skipped this vital step. I've watched video over and over to see if I missed a micro second but you do nothing to engage this feature very frustrating and why I love AllTrails. Wasted a half hour. 😣
