I was in Jax when Cam pulled off the backflip. The whole stadium came UNGLUED !!! I remember yelling "HOLY SHXX!!!" A couple of the kids that were in our group lost their minds. We were lucky enough to witness M J history in the making. Nowadays, it's a given you'll see a backflip, but I'll always remember this one. Thanks for posting.
I just went to my first m j show on 7/30/23
That Consecutive Backflip from the Mohawk Warrior was sweet.
I had no idea that the first competition backflip was done in Jax. I went to Monster Jam in the old arena there back around 1994 or 1995 and there wasn't really a lot of room for the trucks to truly show off. Of course, the trucks have come a LONG way since then. It is still awe inspiring to see such a huge machine move like that.
One evolution of the backflip that wasn't mentioned was the backflip to moonwalk, one of my favorite moves to see
This moments always been engraved in my mind, I used to obsess over Pastrana’s backflips and was dying to see it done in a monster truck I still remember the shocked numb feeling after watching it be done lol, Cam’s from nearby and when Monster Jam came here I shook his hand said ‘Jacksonville 2010’ and he grinned ear to ear. He’s very humble and Im proud of his success
At 8:32 its interesting to hear that a move was Banned. I wonder if you can make a video about the different Banned moves in Monster Jam. I never knew that there were banned moves and it'll be interesting to see a video about them.
which is actually kind of funny coming from FELD/MJ. they pretty much instruct their drivers to destroy the trucks get crowd out of their seats by any means.
I don't doubt that it was banned, but is there any sources for that?
Feld will never admit to banning anything. They won't admit to banning zoomies, although we obviously know it. They won't admit to banning the "Saigon" from Saigon Shaker. Or "Gun" from Scott Hartsock's Gunslinger. The USHRA is the sanctioning body for Monster Jam and sets the rules but guess what? Feld owns it too. There's no "rule" saying you can't run Firestones. . . But MJ only allows BKT because they are a sponsor. They will never admit to banning a move.
Is there a source to the video of the move?
I would be interested in seeing you analyze the influence that the front flip has had in the sport. It's probably nowhere near the influence that the backflip has had; the move is notoriously difficult by comparison. The Mad Scientist did the only one that I've seen done. Though both Grave Digger is reported to have done it a few times in both the late 90s and the 2010s. Big Foot is said to have done a front flip in the 80s.
Feels like a sequel to the moonwalk video; nicely done Jackson, you are one of my favorite monster truck YT channels. Keep it coming
I was expecting to hear "the shut off button" or crowd judging lol. It has stopped NUMEROUS free styles that could have been epic.
You know from the outside it's always looked amazing and scary at the same time when they go for the backflips. But the view from the cockpit at 7:44 really puts it into perspective how terrifying it truly is to try and pull off the backflip because they are literally driving at a flat wall. Everything in your body has to be telling you NOT to do it because a normal car would just smash into it. But having those huge tires makes all the difference in the world in climbing up a flat wall. It's insane.
I love this motorsport and especially the flips..never seen one in person but would LOVE TO!!!
I love watching differentials explode lol
u dont need a backflip ramp for the show to be good lol
man's spittin' bars fr
Exactly
Literally nowadays if you don’t have that good of a run but you do a backflip you have a chance at winning
Also bicycles are underrated and wheelies The skills competition is just weird because if you see a driver do a moonwalk it’s more than likely they’re going to get the win then a driver that just did a bicycle unless it’s a combo move
That's not even what this video is about lol
Well done and well explained you obviously did your homework (as one expects from good channels on CZcams!) look forward to more content. Thanks
I liked the video I love monster jam thank you for the history of the back flip. I have seen a lot of those videos before but you put it all together nicely so thumbs up.
I remember seeing Larry quick do a backflip at a monster truck show at ford field, I don’t remember what year as I was very young but I have a vivid memory of watching that truck flip and going crazy
2:52 That was my first monster jam show and once I saw Tom meents do the first backflip I was hooked
Woah. I was actually at that show in Jax. Didn't realize how big of a deal it was at the time. Pretty cool though.
Hell, I remember the days when the whole sheet metal body would peel off the truck sometimes and not just the hood and the bed of the truck.
You forgot to mention the first backflip Tom did in his backyard in march-ish, 2009 which is the first fully completed backflip.
While correct, Cam's was the first one successfully landed in competition in Monster Jam.
Larry Quick is truthfully documented as the actual first completed backflip
@@coltonkiser4403 Yes but not in Monster Jam. He was in the independent circuits that sometimes competed with Monster Jam drivers.
I never actually knew the corkscrew was banned! I thought it was just abandoned like the reverse backflip
They've quit wanting to pay for truck damage even though they make ample money to do so.
@@RDCNATION well I’m certain that’s not why as drivers still go very hard it is likely Feld being overly intense with driver safety
@@RDCNATION nah Brianna got actually hurt in the Anaheim.
@@ausproductionsofficial That's to be expected. You can roll over and get hurt from a landing the same way you could a corkscrew. They shouldn't ban a move because someone got injured from it.
@@RDCNATION FELD could careless how much damage is done to their fleet owned trucks. they let the Anderson boys run them into the ground. Meents routinely destroys trucks, they have to be shoveled off the track
Awesome to see a video to actually give Larry Quick and Ghost rider some credit.. This guy will get you up on your feet
Love the vid
The thing with the backflip is, you almost have to keep innovating with it. Sure it still gets a pop from the fans, but because it is done so often, it has kinda become just another hit, except it is one that you almost have to do to have a shot at winning.
backflips have become so boring now. there isnt any creativity behind them, drivers have been taught the 'science' to do a successful backflip. as for backflips being what determines who wins, that is sadly true. throw in a backflip in medicore run, a shoe in to win. Driver throws down run with saves, crossthreads, reverse moves skips backflip gets screwed
Just stumbled across this heaven-sent channel. Loved this short little history/evolution vid. Maybe a vid idea is the impact of sponsors on the sport and how it caused drivers to leave? (Balhan for example). Or the slow evolution/de-evolution of freestyle/trucks/rules. BKT and its bad tires initially
If I grow up to 12-20 I get a mic 🎤 and talk to the driver to see what or why they need to be in WF
First back flip done in a competition was done by ghost ryder. It was done June 5 2009 in Bradford, Vt. Your welcomed
I didn’t know how you would be able to explain how this came to be but you did it and added stuff I didn’t know even
i went to the gillette double backflip and the crowds reaction being loud. that would be an understatement
i remember watching cam do this on the speed channel years ago!
I know I'm a dinosaur but I miss monster trucks that were based on the trucks people actually drove. Yes they were very slow compared to today's scratch built monster racing machines but I fell in love with monster trucks in the late 70's, that crushed long lines of cars and torqued there way through mud pits. I fully acknowledge that those days are gone but I'd take the original F-250 based Big foot on 48 inch tires Bob Chandler built in 1974, that appeared in the movie 'Take This Job and Shove It' in May of 1981 when I was 11 years old over anything that came after. You never really get over your first love !
1:52 i remember seeing that on tv and losing my mind
I thought for sure this video was going to be about that guy who managed a front flip.
got to see them twice in real life in Belgium really coolest sport ever
I was at the show in Jacksonville and that backflip was all anyone was talking about after the show.
6:04 what is the music background that he used for?
I can't believe that I'm 16 days older than the first ever backflip.
8:07 This is false because in 2012, Tom meents would do a corkscrew.
video? Cant find it.
@@notahurricane2141 baltimore 2011, it should be in that maxd 10th anniversary playlist
@@CTC0411 I know what you're talking about and I agree but that was off of a regular ramp and a freak occurrence, when the seat container was around it was done on a fairly regular basis hence why meents corkscrew wasn't mentioned
2011
Do a video: The Moment’s that changed Monster Jam forever, showing multiple moments
You should also mention Big kahonas tripple backflip attempt from El Paso TX
I was there! After the nitro circus backflip EVERYBODY quit. But the judges still passed the win to someone else who passed it straight to nitro circus
Cam, is an underrated driver
the first reverse front flip was done in the late 90s by goodrench i have a vhs of it lol
Hey Jackson, You should do a history of undiscovered theme songs. From Bar’s Leaks Eliminator to Twisted Dragon.
4:37 what freestyle of el toro loco is it?
I saw the 1st backflip on TV when it happened.
Does Monster Jam still do Destruction tours? I'm not really interested in the little arena shows that have a couple small ramps and a couple cars. I wanna see Destruction in a large stadium where there's a lot for a driver to take on. Like Destruction and tricks. Mainly Destruction
Moral of the video: thank Cam McQueen for bringing the backflip to Monster Jam while driving in Jacksonville
But what about the famous front flip?
The one born from a wheely and launched from a ramp?
Why was the corkscrew banned? What went wrong?
Well, the reverse back is technicaly a front flip. And I would only count the forward momentum backflip as a real backflip.
And Cam did it in the 3 seater!
I don’t get how they can say he landed the front back flip when his front bumper area helped him land square. I thought a true back flip is when you fully land it completely square without assistance.
As of World Finals XXII, the newest variant is the LeDuc Leap and backflip combination
LeDuc Loop
What about Mad Scientist's front flip?
Here’s an idea history video, Diesel Powered Monster Trucks. Monster Trucks powered Diesel instead of traditional Methanol. And don’t forget BroDozer, Monster Jam’s first Diesel Powered Monster Truck.
err WRONG. Brodozer is NOT the first diesel powered monster truck to run in MJ. FELD went out of their way to lie about that. HushPower/AirDiesel competed LONG before BroDozer
Do the evolution of el toro loco
Cool man
Forgot to talk about the forward momentum front flip...
Even though the corkscrew is banned, FELD isn't going to fire a driver for trying it.
Depends on the driver.
I've loved Monster Trucks since the early 80s, when they were based on a real truck, I've been to Monster Jam a few times and, IT'S AWESOME! but since these weird bodies started, I can live without the weird bodies! I wish they would scratch the wacky bodies and just let us see the beautiful craftsmanship that goes into making these "Monster Buggies" I'm an offroad enthusiasts and have a little Monster of my own, and one day will most likely build a little Truggy, I appreciate how these pieces of art work, I'd rather see some new obstacles and challenges? The backflip is a definite start to see where they're headed in the future, and I can't wait to see more history made! But would love to see it taken to the extreme of what is possible? God knows? Just like in BMX when everyone started doing flips , people were getting called out for the "Circus Trick" There's so much more potential for these beasts! And progression is natural, so I can't wait to see what the future holds! I don't think Bob Chandler ever imagined that his creation would be at this level back in the beginning, TG for Bob and Big Foot 1
I've looked and never found a explanation of how this show is financially viable. They trash these trucks all the time and they cost so much I'd think they'd be in the red dramatically. On top of that the tickets to these shows is very cheap. It cost less by a lot than NBA, NFL, or MLB game tickets cost. It's kind of crazy they do it at all. I've seen ads for $5 seats. That compared to a NBA game is crazy.
This guys voice…really wanted to hear some actual history but I can’t make it through 😩
Yep you guessed it cam mcqueen in northern nightmare
I heard a monster jam driver say that Cam got chewed out for doing the backflip. And shortly after everyone started doing it
Make car crushing great again
What about that front flip thing?
Should've mentioned the front flip
Is it a hottake if I say I think backflips are overdone?
Yes and No.
Absolutely. The first few I seen I thought was so cool. Now every show someone does them. It went from something cool, never seen to something literally everyone is doing.
backflips have become boring now. there is nothing special about them. knowing FELD, they tell their drivers they have to do at least 1 backflip per freestyle. freestyle has become stifled , using the same formula over and over again - moonwalk, stoppies, backflip
No because literally everyone says that
Yes!
Yes
Yes
Yes
yes
where are the front flip?
Thank Travis Pastrana
A double backflip is two
Complete rotations so land the same way you started. This has yet to be completed by anyone.
Sad the corkscrew is banned from the sport. I see how dangerous it is, and understand why it’s banned. But it would’ve been cool to see in real life!!
11:52 Well, this didn't go as planned... ah, screw it, (VRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR)
Technically the maximun destruction is a backflip and whats actually classed as a backflip should be called a back somersault
Saw this when 99 likes and 14 comments
More info on Brianna’s failed corkscrew attempt please?
Landed on the roof and that’s why Cynthia filled in. Brianna was hurt
I’ve seen several trucks land upside down. I now know of two instances where the driver got hurt.
I hate to be the barer of bad news but the winners of any and all monster jam events are decided before the event even starts with back up winners waiting in line in case of vehicle damage or injury
If you buy a ticket thinking that you are attending a competition you are sadly mistaken
Monster Jam is motorsports entertainment, wrestling on wheels
Monster Jam owns All of the trucks and are responsible for all the repairs and maintenance and all of the drivers are under contract and paid a salary by Monster jam
The easiest way to lose your employment with them is to not follow the script by clearly out performing the chosen winner
If you enjoy the spectacle of monster trucks that's great and I totally get it by all means go and have fun take the kids just keep in mind that it's a circus not a competition and has been for
Many years
Nah, the one that really revamped it was the front flip...
The best freestyle of all time not in world finals might be blue thunder Detroit 2010
The scoring is kinda biased because when I go to shows I see icons like grave digger or son of a digger winning with average runs
had no idea corkscrew was banned! ... NO WONDER NO ONE HAS EVEN TRIED IT IN RECENT YEARS! (did Brianna get hurt?)
Yes
hi
backflip is cool n all but till u see the first front flip video uve seen nothing
HOW DO YOU BAN A MOVE?! 8:31
Owners and leaders going hey there is punishable actions if you do this, it’s not safe
@@blackfoxhound3197 none of this is safe!😂
@@blackfoxhound3197 so the wall of death was safe? the high jump competition is safe? backflips arent any safer. any Motocross , BMX freestyler can point that out
@@TheDocumentaryDSMS I mean it’s safer than you think all sports have dangers, nascar, both footballs (American and regular), rugby, all have rules depending on safety what is legal and not.
@@harveylong5878 all where planned stunts, the barrel roll isn’t the intended point for that obstacle, if there was an innovation that would make it safer or more plausible to effectively land, I wouldn’t see why it wouldn’t be allowed back
backflip changed Monster jam freestyle , just not for the better. if anything, backflip paved the way for the formulatic freestyles we have now. there is little to no creativity anymore. Drivers follow the same formula - moonwalks, high jumps, backflips
Feel like backflip to moonwalk should have been added
Yeah.
Honestly, because of the backflips and everyone having to do one. Then guys doing multiple ones in a run. No names, hot wheels. Lol! They need to go back to car crushing and huge air. It got very monotonous.
8:26 bro what was that sorry excuse for a corkscrew... maybe they shouldve banned only Brianna from it if shes that terrible
😂 27% of of the stuff are you cover I didn’t even know about
Everyone, it's been a year since I ca to tNice tutorials video, and my progress is amazing.
Bait thumnails, good way to get blocked.
Backflips are dime a dozen now you see one you seen them all. Freestyle itself is dying, bring back racing like the old Penda series.
Not gonna lie. I'm not a fan of the news caster talk style.
Yawn zzzzzzzz frrrp scratch scratch 😴
Wicked video but why did they leave the orange one stuck in the trailer???? 😂
Monster trucks were better in the 80'a when they were truck's not goofy looking WTF ever it is with a tail and horns.. Bring back side by side racing.
This is what ruined monster Jam. Now all you see is moon walks and backflips. It sucks. The track layouts are all dirt ramps with little to no cars. The charm of monster jam is gone and it's not enjoyable anymore. Very sad. I miss the 2003-2012 days
Moonwalks actually take some driver skill. variations of moonwalks would be nice. backflips are just boring now. FELD stopped using crush cars cuz they are unpredictable, had fan related injuries from them
Why was the corkscrew banned?
