- Learn how to make a pillowcase using your favorite novelty fabric, sport team, cartoon character or just fabric leftovers to match your latest quilt. Stephanie Soebbing from www.QuiltAddictsAnonymous.com breaks down the process and uses a French seam, which encloses all edges so you don't need a serger and your pillowcase will look more professional than the ones you buy in the store.
Supplies we used:
3/4 yard fabric for the body
1/4 yard fabric for the sleeve
2.5-inc by WOF for the flange

What an incredible woman! Multi-tasking 4 ways at once: watching baby, sewing, teaching, making CZcams video. Wow! And your instructions are so clear and the video is so well paced. I bought Sesame Street fabric and will use your instructions to make pillows cases for my young grandchildren.
I had watched other tutorials on these cases before but this had the most clear instructions for making the French Seams. I get it now. Thanks.
Really fantastic tutorial- I feel more confident with my own project now!
I followed this tutorial and made a matching pillowcase for my granddaughters appliqued quilt I just finished making her. I followed the instructions in the video exactly, and used left-over fabric from the quilt. The pillowcase came out perfect, and was very simple to make! And no raw edges inside the pillowcase, so it looks professionally made. It will always launder well and look as good as new. Thanks for your videos! I always love watching and learning from you!
Wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing!
I found your video and it was easy to follow. I needed a refresher on this. I’m making pillowcases to donate to children who are in the hospital. 🙂
Baby was the star of the show.
Thanks for posting.
Gosh, I remember my mother teaching me french seams in 1950, I was only little but she shared a lot about sewing with me!
Thank you for sharing your excellent instructions on sewing this pillowcase with French seams.
Thank you! I am making a quilt for my daughter to take to college. I plan to use your instructions to make a coordinating pillowcase. I can't wait!
This is the tutorial I’ve been searching for! 1967 I learned how to make pillowcases using French seam. I wanted a refresher! Haven sewn in 25 years!! I needed a refresher!!
So cute and loving to hear the little one happily cooing and cheerleading in the background while you patiently give instructions. Thank you.
The little one is now in pre-school!
Great tutorial! I whipped up two of these to match a quilt I just finished. Your instructions are really clear and I am very happy with my end result.
I am glad you were able to use it to make pillows!
This would be such a great pillow case when you go to a sewing retreat! Too dang cute!
Love those fabrics!! Thank you for sharing
Thank you for such a great video. I made one tonight in exactly one hour and it turned out great!

Glad it helped! The 10-month-old is now 5 and we’ve got another one coming any day!
I love the happy baby sounds. There's no better sound in the world.
Thanks for the great tutorial! I have made 3 pair so far and I love how easy they are to make.
You’re welcome!
Excellent tutorial, cant wait to make one...Thankyou for sharing
Thank you so much for sharing. Your tutorial is excellent, it is extremely easy to follow. The close up on sandwiching the layers of fabric makes it easier to understand. I was amazed when you pulled the pillowcase through the tube. I tried it and to my surprise it worked for me! I was so excited I could hardly contain myself. You inspired me I am now one of your subscribers.
So glad this tutorial helped you make a pillowcase!
What fun to make! I’ll be making another one soon!
Nice job! Love the way it finished so pretty. Thanks great video☺❤💜💙💛
I use French seams on all my pillowcases but I haven’t seen that sort of burrito roll method before. I’m going to try it! Thank you
I enjoyed watching you demonstrating how to make a pillow nice job
Thanks so much 😊
Super cute! New at this, going to try my first pillow case. Loved this tutorial!
I am glad you loved it!
Excellent tutorial
Made one for grand daughter...
Princesses!💜💛💙
Hey Steph, fun listening to your older daughter as a baby, and now you have another! Thanks for the tutorial. Hope you're surviving the quarantine :(
Thanks for sharing. I’m going to try this as my first sewing project.
Thanks for sharing! I think I will try this today.
I have made pillowcases this way several times it works great. This is also known as the burrito style pattern for pillowcases.
I used your tutorial to make 3 pairs of pillow case with my 2 grandsons and their father's favorite things. For the youngest he wanted outer space and planets, big brother wanted marvel comics and dad wanted Mickey mouse. They were definitely happier with these instead of socks or underwear in their stockings. I am one of those practical givers. Of course I give toys when you are younger, but once you get in your teens I figure money works better and they can save and get what they want. Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year.
Personalized pillowcases are definitely a practical and fun gift for any age!
This was an excellent video. Great job!!! Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great tutorial. Very easy to follow. Thanks.
You're welcome! Happy to hear it was helpful for you!
Yes, I agree... great tutorial.. Now that I've made each of my grandchildren a quilt and some pillowcases, what else do you suggest? Don't know what else would be a good gift.... (I have 25 grands)
Finally I understood. Please emphasize that the cuff material goes down first. It took me the longest to do that.
You are awesome, thank you so much ❤️
I have a Babylock Quilters Choice. It isn't made anymore, but they have similar models.
Love the baby in the background❤
Thanks for the French seam tutorial. I was shown how to do this a few days ago while making pillow cases for charity, but could not remember exactly how to do it. Now I won't go in today looking like a dufus!
This is the best ever
Wonderful
Thank you
I love the baby sounds
The baby is starting kindergarten next week!
Bello gracias
Thanks for the tutorial. I'm wanting to make a reversible pillowcase where I can turn it inside out and use two different patterns. Would u know how to do that? I can't figure out how I would do it. Any advice would help. Maybe make a video if that? Thank you😃
Great project! I plan to make plenty for presents. (27” on the fold, 9” on the fold and 2 1/2” on the fold) Please confirm how wide is the WOF so as to have that measurement please! Thank you, Mónica from Bolivia 🇧🇴
42 to 44 inches for quilting cotton
شكرا بالتوفيق والنجاح ان شاء الله.
Great video instructions. Is this for a king size?
I have made lots of them that way for St Jude’s. I wonderful mission project.
I'm sure they love it!
Thanks for the video. I was wanting to make reversible pillowcases. Do u have any ideas or tips on this BC I really don't even know where to begin. What I'm wanting is one color fabric on the outside and the you can turn it inside out for a different color or pattern. Thanks n god bless
Great 😂❤
what model baby lock are you using?
I think I’m going to use this method to create a skirt with a lining and stretchy belt.
Hi, may U check where to get the cutter, I like it :) thank you.
Thank you for this great tutorial. I need help. I am making flannel with the flange so the 3 layers are thick. First it is hard to pull the roll out. Then it is very difficult to sew the side seams over the flange. Ripping out stitches in flannel risks cutting a thread of fabric. Size 12 needle...should it be larger? Maybe I will try a walking foot. to Was lifting foot to move fabric, sew, repeat. Got thread nests. Thank you in advance for any replies.
I would try using a denim needle. Also press the seams open to avoid bulk and go very slow over them so you do not break a needle. I do also think a walking foot would be your best bet.
@@QuiltAddictsAnonymous Thank you!
Hi Stephanie, I realize you posted this 7 years ago. Idk if my question will pop up up or not. I need to make a queen. Is this pattern good for a queen. Or what measurements do I need have use. For my grand baby.. thank you. And as always Hugs!!!
The measurements in this video will work for a queen or a large standard sized pillow. :)
What is the width of your fabric
Made this for my Grandson who is graduating.
Did I catch the measurements correctly? Length was:
3/4 yard or 27" + 2.5" + 9 " = 38.5 " (queen pillowcase?) What was the width of the fabric you used? What would you add in inches for a King pillowcase?
Close. The 2.5 inch strip doesn't add to the length so you have the 27" + (9/2) - .5 which equals 31 inches. For a king, I add 2 inches to the body, making it 29 inches, and 1 inch to the cuff, making it 10 inches. The width of all the fabrics were 42 inches.
Do you pre-wash your fabric for the pillow cases? What happens if I don’t pre-wash? I hope I get an answer ASAP!
I don’t. It should all shrink at about the same rate and be fine
@@QuiltAddictsAnonymous thank you so much!
What is your WOF in this video? Do you you find a big difference between using 42" vs. 44" width?
Either is fine
What size is your finished pillowcase?
it will finish at about 29 inches long and 20 inches wide. Finished size depends on the width of your fabric.
Any measurements for king size?
For a king pillowcase add approximately 5in to the body and 1in to the cuff. Make sure to measure your pillow and make sure it will be long enough to cover it first.
France coshum
What kind of fabric?
We use quilting cotton.
