  • In this video I show you step-by-step how to make a gorgeous pillowcase with French seams that give it a high-end professional finish. This is a great beginner project that you could complete in an hour. These make great gifts, if you can part with them...I want to keep them all!
    YOUR FABRIC NEEDS ARE:
(wash and press all fabrics before):
    MAIN FABRIC
*Standard Pillow size: 28-29" x Width Of Fabric (WOF)
which is a standard bolt @ 44-45"/115cm wide
    *King size: 36" x WOF
    CUFF: 9-10" X WOF
    ACCENT FLANGE: 2" x WOF
    * If the pattern runs the cut length. If it runs up and down the width, you will need 45" x WOF to work the pattern into the required length and you will have wastage, so be aware of the pattern direction.
Thread to match cuff (that is the only place it shows, if you're anal like me)

I like the camera was aimed to show from the perspective of the person that was going to do the craft and not looking at you and watching it being done backward. It's really helpful to learn from that view.

Had to smile when you said you wanted one of each you made. My mother used to do a LOT of sewing as gifts and many times I remember her saying, "and one for Santa", then she put that one into her Christmas closet. My dad made her a closet with floor to near ceiling shelves and added a locked door. She started Christmas shopping for the next year, the day after Christmas, so dad made her a Christmas Closet. Thank you for bring back a wonderful memory. I'm 70 yo now and it was so nice to remember that.

I've found it easier when pinning the panel, flange, and main fabric together, to work from the center fold out to the selvage edges. This way any excess fabric would be the same amount on both sides. So when trimming the excess I don't worry about trimming more or less off either sidethe side. Just a thought ❤.

They are addictive! I sew them for an organization up here that distributes them to children in hospitals that have cancer and other life threatening illnesses. I did about 200 last year, I've already done over 200 this year, and more to come! Constantly searching for fabric donation is the hard part, the sewing is a breeze LOL

I am a brand new sewer and I have watched this video a bunch of times. I am gonna try it. You did a great job at explaining everything and I'm sure it will make a lot more sense once I get in there. Thanks

Thank you Elaine. Try a practice one. Make a small one to get the hang of it and after, sew a ribbon on and use it as a gift bag.

I made these in kids prints for boys and girls and toddlers, I brought them to the local hospital ER, the nurse would give them to all the little patients

Thank you. I didn’t know what a French seam was. You showed it so clearly. I’m making pillow cases for Cases for Smiles, a charity for children. Wish me luck!

Hi Sandy, thank you so much! I LOVE my industrial machine. I only use my Janome when I have to use zigzag. You made my day. Stay safe ❤

Liz, one other comment. You are so enthusiastic with your presentation and that is so cool, just like I am with sewing and embroidering, too. I'm going to embroider on one size. I really need a smaller version for child's pillowcase.
