- Learn how to sew a french seam. French seams are perfect for use on lightweight or sheer fabrics (such as silk). The seam encases all of the raw fraying edges of the fabric inside a tiny seam allowance of 1/4" (5mm).

I am so glad you used a printed piece of material that clearly distinguishes the Right side of the material from the Wrong side of the material. So many people will post these type of videos with Right sides that look exactly like the Wrong side = useless.
yes it made it harder then it had to br.
Really pleased that it helped both of you! :-))
It was as well helpful that this smart seamstress used a thread that did not match the color of the fabric. Well done.

I agree. I get totally confused.
This is the best presentation for a french seam ever. The camera angle was spot on. Short and simple.
That is very kind of you. Thank you ever so much for your lovely comment. Really pleased you found it so useful. Thank you, Aneka x

I totally agree with you.
@@bijouxw1014 Thanks so much.
I was sewing AWANA bags and one of my tenants came over to "tell me how to sew" and asked if I was using French seams. Not familiar with that stitch I simply told her that as I was doubling the fabric I was doing them like I do pillow cases. She began to describe Flat-fill Seams. Not wanting to continue that discussion or get into anything I politely listened and decided to Google the French Seam. Thank you so much.
Although I learned to sew almost 60 years ago, (the machine didn't even reverse, much less zig zag!) and my mother was an excellent seamstress, I never learned how to do a French seam until today, with your excellent video. Today I only make doll clothes for my granddaughter, but finishing those small seams so they don't fray is important to me. I'll soon be teaching her how to sew, too! Thank you for your clear instruction and video. I'll be watching more of them!
Really pleased I could help Jennifer. Thank you.
Doll clothes are so fiddly
Thank you I followed your tutorial and done it the same time I'm impressed with myself thanks again
This video explains how to sew a French seam the best. Your voice is easily understood, the instructions are clear and your choice of fabric (wrong side easily distinguishable from the right side) really helps. I have made French seams in the past and tuned into to get a refresher. Very excellent video! Thank you for posting.
Wow Eileen, that is very kind of you. I am really pleased that you enjoyed the video and found everything to be clear and concise. Thank you for posting such a lovely comment. I wish you all the best with your sewing. Aneka
Ive been through so many french seam tutorials and yours was honestly the most well explained and easily understood video. Thank you!
Hi Janine, that is really kind of you, thank you very much. Aneka
I know this video is older, but I’m a beginner and I love this. Thank you so much for the thorough explanation and presentation. I followed along with a hand stitching class at my local fabric store, and the instructor didn’t trim the first seam allowance, and she didn’t explain why the threads were showing. Now I know!
I've looked at a zillion tutorials, and this is the first one that has made complete start to finish sense. Thank you!
Hi Jen, thank you for your lovely words. So pleased I could help. Aneka :-))
Thank you so much for this tutorial! ❤
I'm in the middle of making the most disastrous blouse - it'll end up being a sleeping shirt - and those seams are the only aspect of it, I'm happy with 😂
Oh no! You will get there. Thank you. Aneka x
I echo what everyone else has said.
You have explained and demonstrated very clearly where to use a FS and exactly how to do it.
Brilliant presentation.
Five stars girl.
Thank you
Thank you so much. I'm pleased you found it helpful.
Gradually working my way through your videos. You are a gifted teacher, and I love the way you continue to give little tips and tricks and reinforcing habits to your listeners while you are working. So grateful for your channel, thank you!
Thanks so much Julie. So pleased. Aneka x
A good concise tutorial! You went right to the point, the video was in focus, stayed in focus and each step was clearly demonstrated. Thank you!
Hello, thank you for your lovely words, I am delighted that you enjoyed the tutorial and my style of teaching. Thank you for taking the time to comment. Aneka :-))
Clear and concise--not a moment wasted explaining the technique! Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed it. Aneka x
Love listening to your voice...and such clear directions. Thanks!

Thanks for this really clear tute on French seams
You’re welcome 😊
Thanks for a clear and concise lesson. Hadn't sewn a French seam since junior school and now busy with a blouse that has French seams. Just checked to see if I still remembered how. Have just subscribed!
Aneka, so clear, and every detail is there. I do have rather a 'roll-y' fabric. I think it is a polyester but has the look of crepe, so when I turn the French seam inwards to make the final seam, it is hard to get the first seam to sit on the edge, it just wants to roll. I do like the fact you use a fabric that has a clear 'wrong' and 'right' side. Once again, your turorials win hands down. Thank you!
I've sewn for years (though not as well as I like), but I have forgotten how to sew a French seam, so I found you. Thank you so much for not only clear and concise instructions, but I loved the fact you used fabric was easy to distinguish front and back of the fabric. Plus using a different colour thread was also helpful. I've just subscribed.
Welcome! Thank you so much for your kind words, I'm so pleased you enjoyed it.
Thank you - brilliant! Beautifully demonstrated and clearly articulated. Just brilliant.
Thank you.
What an excellent tutor you are - I'm new to sewing but even I could follow this. Clear precise, with no assumptions that we would know what we are doing. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for your kind words. Glad I could help. Aneka x
You are thorough and I feel that I could learn anything from you. Bravo!
Thank you so much. Aneka :-))
By far the best video on the net . Thank you so much
Thank you very much. Aneka x

You are brilliant at what you do and your demos are just on point. The use of repetition of details, use of materials that are easily seen, and clear instructions make you stand out. Thank you so much.

Thank you for this outstanding presentation! It was especially helpful that you mentioned the sowing machine settings and measurements of the seam and explained pitfalls with other fabrics or too large seams. You spoke very clearly and to the point. Lighting, camera, and audio were fantastic. People can learn a lot from you - not only about sowing :-)
Thank you so much! I don’t know why CZcams didn’t recommend this to me, all I was watching was clothes sewing videos for years, and this video never showed up until now.
I would love to see this on a sheer fabric! Very helpful indeed!
Hi Nicole, happy to email you a pick if that would help. I did have some images on my Instagram Stories the other day as I am currently hemming some bridesmaid dresses for a friend. Is it simple to complete and the technique is just the same, you may need to change the needle size for the finer fabric and maybe some settings on your machine. Good luck, Aneka :-))
Love your very detailed videos, thank you so much for sharing x
Thank you Lindsay. Aneka x

Wow. These are such wonderful videos. I have wanted to learn to sew for years, and I've learned so much from you. There are hidden gems in every video, things I never would have thought of, or, things I never heard of. Where I live, there is very little to be found in the way of in person sewing instruction. All you can get is offered by a fabric store, but they're not all that concerned with the quality of their teaching. What you do find, is the instructor dashing through the lessons, crowded classes, and the entire enterprise is very, very expensive. Inconvenient class times are the rule, instead of the exception, and the basic "How To's" are glossed over, as quickly as possible, to cram as much into one hour as is humanly possible. You, and your excellent videos, have revived my interest in sewing. Thank you, ever so much.
I really like how you explained this. I am new to sewing and I will definitely try it on my items.
Thanks you.
Hi Marlene, it is a great and rather simple seam (when you know how)! Good luck on your new sewing journey. Aneka x

This is a great video. I love how you gave extra information as why and how to do it.
Thanks Cece that's really kind. Really pleased you found it useful! X
A good instructor will always give the "why" as she or he describes the "how" as this will give the student an extra grasp of the instruction. This lady, Anika is a really gifted instructor.
