Just a tip from someone who has been sewing for years. It is much easier to sew the first seam with wrong sides together at 1/4 in. then turn wrong side out and sew the seam again at 3/8. (Equals 5/8 seam) There's no need to press the seams until you are done. Just sew. Thank you for your video, though. We all learn from one another.
I was looking how to do a French seam when I also have a zipper in the same seam line. Wanted to figure out an efficient way to do it. I think this would work great for that.
This is great! I just tried a propper French seam last night and I guess I either didn't trim enough of the seam off or I sewed my second stitch lines too close to the first, but either way, all these messy frays were peaking out of the waist of my beautiful dress 😭 These mock French seams look much safer! Thank you for another tool in the toolbelt!
I've been using mock French seams since the 70s. I place the material wrong sides together and sew the seam. I then turn the material so the right sides are together and sew he seam. I usually sew the seam flat.
@@Charmedbyashley I just love that we are talking about finishing seams. It doesn't really talk about it in the patterns and new sewers are just supposed to know this.
Ahh another great tutorial! Thanks! It's Kathleen hope you saw that email! About the infamous Allegro! Lolol BTW I love my new one it works AMAZING!! 💜💜💜
There are instances where a French seam can not be done and a mock french seam is the only option. It might not make sense but it does to alot of other people

Not sure why this is better than a french seam, but thanks for sharing..
it can be useful if you have already sewn the seam on the wrong sides and then later decide u want a french seam finish
@@paIeville I see.
I love this idea! Thank you so much for sharing it. It will be wonderful for pillowcases etc.😊
French seams can be done so much quicker.
this is true, there are some instances that a mock french seam can only be done.

I would have matched up those dots
This was a sample I didn't make this into anything other wise I would have

Complicazioni cose semplici
What is the advantage over a proper french seam?
It's not an advantage it's used in ways where a traditional French seam can't be done. Such as a woven garment, attaching a sleeve
@Charmed By Ashley you can do a French seam attaching a sleeve. Not all sleeves but most
I sometimes feel the need to sew the finished French seam down ! Is that wrong?? 🤔
No not at all
Not at all. I always do it.
You didn't match up the dots
yeah, this was just a demonstration so i wasnt to worried.
Easier to just do a French seam. A mock French seam makes no sense.
