    .
In the heart of World War I, in 1916, and for about ten months, Thessaloniki was the capital of a second Greek state! It was the "Provisional Government of Triandria" with Eleftherios Venizelos, Admiral Pavlos Kountouriotis and General Panagiotis Daglis. The song was written for them.
The Bulgarians had already invaded Macedonia and the Italians were threatening Epirus. Faced with this extraordinary situation, the king and the government of Athens were inactive and kept a neutral attitude. The National The National Defense movement was formed as a conspiracy at the end of 1915 by military and political figures of Thessaloniki who wanted to the end the essentially pro-German attitude of the Palace, they were anti-monarchist, democrats and close to Eleftherios Venizelos.

Venizelos should not have called an election in 1920 that is one of many mistakes he made but there is no doubt that he was one the best prime ministers Greece has ever had
