Pulsefeeder pump- $300, Injection tank $100, supco relay $10 for injector power (120v) powered by 220v well pump relay, Nutra sol mixed down 5/1 water to keep pulse feeder oxidation wear low, dial set to 75% to get 10ppm H202 concentration for 5ppm iron, a 120 gal clack retention tank I got on the side of the road ( cost about $800 new) which needed cleaning and several coats of poly clear. Use tank as particle spin down filter. Not for drinking. Just kill Iron bacteria and filter it out at a low cost.

    We have a lot of iron bacteria in Minnesota. I try to avoid peroxide due to h2o2 reverting to o2 when used up providing oxygen for the bacteria to proliferate. Chlorine sucks but it works. Good old fashioned greensand plus works good too.

    • @POLOLOUS3
      @POLOLOUS3 Před 3 lety +1

      How does it help the bacteria proliferate with o2 if it is dead from the treatment?

    • @mnwatertreatment
      @mnwatertreatment Před 3 lety

      @@POLOLOUS3 youre assuming it's dead from the treatment. H2o2 is not a goto method for iron bacteria because it requires very high concentrations for attempting disenfection and because it does not carry a residual. Should the h2o2 not be completely effective from the very start, IRB can begin to grow downstream. In addition, excessive o2 left behind will help grow the bacteria.
      Iron bacteria treatment is a specialty of mine and this is just my experience. If you can get it to work with your application there is certainly benefits to h2o2.

    Great vid. I went in a slightly different direction and built a home made system that uses ozone generators, an air pump and a 230 gal holding tank that receives my well water. The air pump is one used for aerating ponds, and feeds two Stainless UV ozone generators designed for large aquariums. The output from the ozone generators is bubbled into the holding tank using a couple of aerator stones. My well pump is wired to a 230v contactor with the 115v actuating circuit wired through a float switch in the holding tank, and this keeps the holding tank full. A jet pump beside the tank draws from tank and pressurizes the house supply. One bonus is I have about a 3 day+ emergency supply of water in case the well pump fails. The air pump bubbles the tank with ozone 24/7. The output goes through the pressure tank, a 30 micron filter, the water softener, then two 5 micron Big Blue carbon filters, then the last chance UV sterilizer (which was already there). Operating cost is the two UV bulbs replaced annually at about 60$ each, and electricity to run the air pump and the two generators, about 220w 24/7, about $230 on the annual electrical bill. Bottled quality water.

      @@petebeasttexashomesteading I originally had mine set up with a timer to only fill the tank at the end of the day and the ozone/air pump would only run from midnight until 6am. Two 360 mg/hr ozone generators should have been able to treat 200 gal over 6 hours no problem and I could get the energy cost to less than $100. About a third of the holding tank of treated water would be consumed during the day (half if doing washing). The problem was the daily start stop of the UV bulbs shortens the bulb life quite a lot, and I'm not sure how much, so I decided just to leave it running all the time, where the bulbs have a known life of about 1 year of continuous use.

    I think that I have the iron bacteria, as my toilet tanks are slimy and orange. I am very interested in your setup and would love to add something like this to my current setup. I think that if I had the peroxide system setup to go from well to the tank, then to the softener, then Iron Cleer system, then cartridge filter, then house,...that should help. What are your thoughts?

    • @petebeasttexashomesteading
      @petebeasttexashomesteading  Před 6 lety

      This system works great to oxidize the iron and kill the iron bacteria, and should be installed before any filters and softener. The only thing is that after you install the system, you will get all the iron that was in the water turn to rust. So you'll have to have a good filtering system after the H2O system to catch the oxidized iron (Rust). A back flushing tank filter should work. Check out this page on Iron removal back flushing filters that work with the H2O system and watch the video they have there. www.cleanwaterstore.com/iron-manganese-filters.html

      The pro-ox 5900-bt iron filter is more to remove iron , rust, manganese and sulfur from the water. It does filter down to about 3 to 5 micron. So after the Pro-ox iron filter it goes through the two big blue filters, first goes through the 5 micron pleated filter then a 1 micron carbon block filter and that's great for using the water for everything even drinking. but I like to go a step further so Under my sink, I have the water for drinking filter through a 1 micron carbon block filter then a .5 micron then through two ceramic filter just for drinking and cooking with. Ceramic filers are great for removing all bacteria. I do this because I only want truly clean water to drink, not good enough to drink.
      My pro-ox iron filter only back washes once every 3 days (which is programmable). The actual back washing last 10 minutes but the filter releases the stored air for 1 minute then back washes for 10 minutes then rest for 5 minute to let the media settle in the tank. Then draws air in the tank for 20 minutes then rapid rinse for 5 minutes. The whole process takes 41 minutes and it's about as load as a water softener. The pro-ox 5900-bt is programmable on the unit and you can download the (Legacy view app) from the play store and program all the function on your phone which is much easier. It works through your bluetooth on your phone.
      The H202 system is great for removing Iron, sulfur and killing bacteria from the water. The pump is a little noisy but it's in the laundry room so I shut the door :)

I was told by one company that a pleated 50 micron sediment filter before my 9 x 48" Catalytic Carbon filter would be sufficient & a carbon filter after would be redundant?? The Clean Water Store said depending on the water quality & yes it may be redundant but wouldn't hurt to have a carbon filter?? Any suggestions?

      Yes, I still use the pre-filter twist-o-clean before the meter to filter out anything that would interfere with the metering mechanism. But a 20 to 50-micron pleated washable filter would be fine. I have a dual 5 micron pleated and carbon block filter after my backwashing iron tank, and after about 5 months when I change those filters, they are full of very fine rust that looks like rusty mud. trust me it wouldn't be redundant to have filters after the backwashing tank.

      The H2O2 system will remove the sulfur odor, iron and manganese from your water by oxidation. The iron will turn to rust and can be filtered out after the system. If you have staining, it's due to iron or manganese in the water. Brown stain is iron and black stain is manganese. What I did to remove all this is put in the H2O2 system followed by a Pro-ox 5900-BT iron backwashing filter, and it solved all these problems. Here are all the links to the systems. The H2O2 system: www.cleanwaterstore.com/hydrogen-peroxide-well-water-systems/hydrogen-peroxide-proportional-flow-well-water-system-j-pro-22-110v-230v.html The backwashing iron filters: www.cleanwaterstore.com/pro-ox-iron-filters.html These two will solve your water problems. • @petebeasttexashomesteading

      Adebola Jibola Iron can only be taken out of the water if it's oxidized (turns to rust). That's why I installed the h2o2 system. Another way is to put the water on large tanks and agitate the water to oxygenate it and the iron in the water will rust and settle to the bottom.

    Pete, Excellent Video, after watching it a few times I ended up purchasing the same system from the Clean Water Store... Your update says you no longer use the twist o clean filter and are now using an iron back washing filter. I have a 1.0 cu ft Catalytic Carbon Filter w/ manual back wash valve that I was planning on using as my final filter, I believe it will do the job also. Question: As a pre-filter before the catalytic carbon filter, will a Rusco 1" 60 mesh spin down filter be sufficient to prevent any oxidized rust from getting into the final catalytic carbon filter and do you use the 7% peroxide straight or diluted 9 - 1 or 7000 ppm?
