@@rebeccacramirez62 I would lose my mind! Would be so cool!
Thanks for your helpful video, I have an important comment/suggestion; please wear a mask when working with all that mold/dust. Thx, Leo Liz.
great job!
Why on Earth did you leave all that soil under the new stairs ? ?, dreadful dirty thing to do ! The soil will begin to leave a “ fusty, Musty “ smell after a while ? It will encourage damp and mould like the old ones had ?
Sorry Mr Fixer, but that’s a huge big NO NO in my books !
It may be only your basement, but all that lovely timber and all your careful work, spoiled by your laziness in leaving what appears to be an apparent “ spoil heap “ hidden underneath ? , shoddy workmanship that certainly wouldn’t be allowed here in England !
@@josephinesenior1150 this area is dry as a bone and has been blocked off with a door. It’s fine. Thanks for the feedback though. 😕
The only thing i would have done differently is put blocking behind that first riser to keep the dirt from comming out under the stairs.
Hey! Good idea! I went back-and-forth on what to do with that dirt a hundred different times. So many different ways!
@@TheFixerHomeRepair I was wondering about maybe putting some landscaping fabric over the dirt just so you don't have to see loose dirt when you look at the stairs. Or maybe some foam board insulation?
@@SuppaflyZSMHeavy duty plastic would be ideal because moisture will wick up from the dirt and cause rot over time
Yeah, I was thinking maybe put landscape paver blocks to hold the dirt back. LOL, I kept thinking how often I'd be sweep that dirt away unless I contained it.
How often do we think he is going up and down these stairs? 😂 It's probly fine for the next 20yrs use.
It's great that you include the bloopers...the actual reality of the jobs.
I love how you show us how to do this. And even tell us other ways to do it. It looks fantastic. Those should be there for another 75 years.
I really appreciate the “how I vs. how to” comments at the end. Such a professional.
The bloopers made my day..because THAT is my life. It’s stuck! Followed by a lot of swearing. ❤
Very smart idea putting a third stringer in the middle of the stairs where there wasn't one originally.
These videos are so addictive to watch
Besides learning how to do different construction projects, I'm always impressed by what an excellent teacher you are. The way you break down big jobs into manageable tasks, the way you explain, and the way you demonstrate all make an incredible learning experience for your viewers!
First video of yours I've watched. great job. I've repairs deck stairs similar to that, and as a do it yourselfer I would have done the exact same repair.
my dad was an amazing teacher but his fav was to put the tools in the person's hands and have them do it while he talked them through. He would have thought this excellent though.
I'm an old Vietnam vet who used to be able to do what you do but I'm too damn old to do it now, but I can enjoy your work vicariously and remember the days when I could do, what you do... Thanks for the great videos!
Hey! Thanks for watching, I appreciate it! And thank you for your service! 😃
Thank you for your sacrifice!
Welcome home . Oorah .
Welcome home and thank you for your service. Definitely a good watch. I like the bloopers at the end. Lol.
Thank you so much for your service!
Great job. I particularly enjoyed the outtakes at the end. I feel less inadequate.
The long awaited day has finally come. Those stairs were disastrous. It looks like whoever built it made the stringers out of wood scraps and held them together with plywood haha. I appreciate that you took the time explaining how to make stringers because that was the one thing I had no idea how to make! The before and after was so satisfying to watch. Great video. Can't wait to see the door build.
Wee-hoo! I've waited 2 years to see you do this. Thumbs-up, even though I haven't watched the video yet!! Now that I've watched it (thanks for all the good information), I would put a board in front of the bottom step to keep dirt from inching onto the cement slab. Just my thought-process! Thanks for a great job!!
Thanks for watching!! 😃
I appreciate the outtakes. The editing made the project look like a walk in the park, then we see the outtakes and go "phew", he did have some struggles. Just like my projects. Nice staircase.
The drill jump bloopers are my favorite. Thanks for explaining rise and run. Another important reason why the rise and run have to be the same is that it's a trip hazard since the human brain assumes stair-steps are all equal.
They make a stain-type product for cut ends of pressure treated that adds back some of the protective chemicals. I would be tempted to use that at least on the stringer bottoms that contact the concrete. But it should be a much drier anvironment now that you fixed up the doors. And I can feel your satisfaction as you finally walk down a solid flight of stairs! Nice.
The before and after is incredible!!
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. I'm loving the endings of your videos. 😂😂
So happy that you & your videos are back ... Congratulations again on the 2 new bundles of joy to your family🎉
Hey! Thanks so much for the support! 😃
It is cool how they improvised and built those stairs with plywood and 2 x 4s. I live in the sticks and I see everything in home repair.
Your.outtakes are comforting, that's 90% of my DIY experiences...😂😂😂
Now a nice persian style tread runner to set it off and a cherry wood banister. 😂😂
😂 Next time!
those looked so much like my bulkhead stairs for a minute I thought you were in my house! Like you I've been talking about replacing them for a couple of years. Nicely done repair.
Fixer, I’ve been waiting for this fix ever since you replaced the bulkhead, TFS❗️
Hey! Thanks a lot for sticking around to see the stairs get fixed! 😃
Wonderful video! And the bloopers make it real!!! I forget that CZcams videos showing perfect/easy projects are the FINAL cut..not the messy reality. Thanks much!
Thank YOU so much for watching! 😃
Yes, thank you for "squaring" it up in the end to show us how life really goes.😊
This Video is exactly what I need, Right Now
Thanks for watching! 😁
Nice job🎉 yep the bloopers is about how'd it would go for me lol....especially cutting the board exactly tight to the wall and it getting stuck
I couldn't believe how stuck it actually got. 😂
Also the blooper real at the end was glorious amusement tooo .. thanks for a long vid
My cameraman likes them too and wants to make sure that they don't miss anything. 😂
I simply like how you talk about the thing you are doing😊
Your bloopers are what my whole project looks like! I’ve resorted to watching and letting the grandkids do the work. 🤓
Cut you first triangle out, nail a scrap 1x4 on the long edge, then use the jig you just made to mark all of your cuts. Make sure to mark the rise and the run template so won’t make a mistake.
Thank you very much. I have seen countless tutorials on building stairs. You are the first person to actually explain what raise and run means. And show actually how to get both of those measurements.
Thanks, I appreciate the comment!
That information is freely available on any search.
Very satisfying to watch. And your outtakes are hilarious.
Loved the bloopers at the end! Made you more real! Good job on a tough fix!!
You have inspired me to work on my outside basement access, if only I could get my husband inspired, too! (He did a great job replacing our front steps, without my "help".) Thanks for the great video!
Thanks so much for watching!
I had so much trouble getting my late EX- to do these things. We had a toddler and our one and a half story balcony had sides with huge open spaces. PLUS our toddler had a very large head, very top heavy and tippy when he leaned over. So one day I went to the store and the only thing I could manage at the time was to nail up heavy duty construction fencing, bright orange. That did the trick, one look at that and he got to work. He installed trellis.
You trying to get that tread unstuck during the outtakes made me laugh so hard until you finally got it loose. Good old slapstick, only this was for real. 🤣😂😆
I couldn't believe that it got that stuck. 😂
Yeah man!!!!! Super duper have loved all the vids and it's always real world. May all your best wishes come true for you and the ones you love. Thanks for making the channel.
Hey! Thanks for always commenting and watching the videos. I really do appreciate it! 😃
Your explanation is understandable and easy to follow. Thanks for sharing. 👋👍👍👍
I love the bloopers at the end great content don't ever change.
I love the bloopers. Y'all are awesome
Nice job brother . " How did I get it in here " Too funny , and real .
I love how secure and beefy these stairs are. As a more hefty person, I like to see things on the more over-build side, rather than under-build. Great job!!
That's me. I ain't no 160 pound 22-year-old anymore. I overbuild anyway, so I don't have to fool with it anymore😄
Please keep doing the outtakes. Had me dying messing with that last tread. 😂😂😂
I don't think I will ever not put the outtakes in going forward. 😀😀
Stairs are amazing man! Secure and probably wont move for decades!
It all makes sense and extremely thought out and look at the final result, an awesome set of stairs, job well done and well explained. :)
Thank you!!
Seriously -- Best. Teacher. Ever. You went over so much stuff that I've had trouble grasping for ages. THANK YOU 🙌 💕
Awesome work. Your OCD is so delightful.
I live the final scenes 😂😂, good to know you also have your little moments of panic, 😅.
I see that craftsman's working problems are same all over the world😂😂😂😂 great job anyway!!!! Greetings from MIDDLE SOUTH ITALY
The bloopers though 🤣😅 I’m crying laughing 🤣🤣 love your sense of humour!
😁🤣
Yay! A new video! Haha! The end! You're such a dork, I love it.
Excellent job as usual. Loved the bloopers at the end. 😂
I love the outtakes and bloopers
Thanks!
Loved the bloopers at the end.
Great Instructor very particular and patient. Thanks Jersey Joe
The outtakes! :) Awesome video. Now I understand better what to expect and an idea what to do! Thanks !!!
they look a lot safer that's for sure 😂 your fixin her up really good Matt ...love the remodeling job you're doin
Thanks so much! 😃
Pretty game fixing those stairs in a white tee, Mr Fixer!
Enjoyed this very much. You are great at explaining "how to". I liked the cardboard idea. Even if you have to tape the smaller shipping boxes together.....it's cheaper than lumber. Thanks
you did a great job with those brand new stairs n congrats on your two bundles of joy
Thanks! 😃
@@TheFixerHomeRepair no problem
A little vapor barrier and some crushed stone would’ve really cleaned it up and helped a bit with moisture even though it’s ‘outside’. But overall great videos, keep them coming.
Agreed, but he is an amazing carpenter!!
Love watching a carpenter who knows his stuff do a project. Very nice.
Excellent explanation and tutorial! Now, saftey glasses anyone?
Just found your channel. Just watched the kitchen transformation. It was awesome. You’re freakin amazing. You can really do it all. You’re a dying breed. Wish we had someone like you in our area. Our 67 year old house could really use someone with your skills and attention to detail.
We really enjoy your vids.
Hey! Thanks for watching the videos. 😃
Thats a good build, well done. I agree with one of your viewers and close off the bottom runner. I've built a lot of stairs and a quick way to figure out the rise and runs etc is with CAD if you have access to it, you can even draw out a template for your stringers with whatever tread material you use, works great and very accurate.
Thanks. I learned a lot watching this. It’s always the layout that can screw up a project where one had good initial intentions. Stairs have always intimidated me a bit. This is a practical future reference point. I appreciate the detailed instruction.
You’re such a clear communicator. I feel like I can make some steps right now!
I watched almost most of your videos, they are great 😍😍 let's have basement makeover 😁😍
Maybe one day! 😃
Excellent camera work. Mrs Fixer is a natural :D
It's actually not her, I have a cameraman now. 😃
Loved the extra footage and bloopers at the end Matt 😂
Thanks!!
Loved the video! So enjoy watching how things are made in such great detail.
Thanks!
That was great. Now I know how stringers work!
You did a beautiful job building inspector should be proud of you. You saved thousands.
Simple, thorough, understandable how-to lesson. Thank you 😊. Fantastic work 🤩
Great job.
Right. It can be done a multitude of ways.
Your way just as good as another.
I would have (you still could) removed the dirt and poured a floor and back wall just to reduce the stale odor that comes with it and likely reduce entry of various vermin and moisture through it.
✌️❤️
It looks great 👍. Thanks for sharing your story about fixing your new staircase.
Great job! Thats a very solid set of stairs, better than most stuff I seen built over past few years. If you want them to last, you should lift the stairs a bit gently with a pry bar and add some 6 mil poly strips or sill gasket under the feet between the concrete and anywhere the stringers touch earth. Pressure treated lumber or not, moisture from below is the enemy.
Solid job!
Loved the stairs!
Awesome job 🔨
Nice job on the stairs. They look great. Thanks for sharing the how to info.
What a great video , its a pleasure to watch and learn . I am not great at any diy but the way you explain it was absolutely perfect so a huge Thank you from the UK.
Will i ever build stairs… probably not but i really enjoyed this video as someone who’s never done wood work before. Great video!
Thank you, I really enjoyed your video... excellent video, with every detail and easy to follow..on my way now to home depot to buy everything to replace mine.
I loved the video, but especially loved the bloopers!
I think you have done a fantastic job. Only thing I would have done is cut the treads a little short to allow for the wood to expand. Great job.
Great video as usual….I’m surprised you didn’t take all the dirt out and pour a concrete pad. That would of given it a clean look!…Plus, while you’re at it, could of painted it with Dry-lock, but..that’s just me. Thanks again for all the great videos, you’re definitely very talented…..
I thoroughly enjoyed that video. You showed skills that can be used in many situations.
Great video, wouldn't change a thing, love how you explain the details - Thanks!!!!
Great job. You work with what you got and you worked well
You do really nice work. It was a pleasure to watch. Thanks for the lesson.
I totally forgot about your videos until this popped up in my feed
Welcome back! 😁
I love the bloopers afterwards! Did you save the old antique doors?
I still have them! I'm trying to figure out what to do with them. 😃
Me too! 😊😅
@@TheFixerHomeRepair Depending on the material I'd say base for a BBQ, I know they are metal but might not be thick enough for the heat....
Great job on the video as well as the steps. As I learned from my own experience the only thing I would add is some form of waterproof treatment on the stringers where they contact the concrete. Thanks for sharing your experience and expertise.
Great job! Looking forward to the door installation!
They look FANTASTIC Mr. Fixer❤.
Loved the video!!!! I have ro do this to my basement as well before winter sets in.
Good video, great job explaining rise and run.
Looks good Matt.
Thank you for being a good explainer. Helps out alot
I like this kind of Work, for me I can learn for my further projects.
The finished stairs came out great. When I've done stairs over dirt, I like to scrape it down and throw in some bags of rock. Just my preference.
Such a well made video. And with the extra clips at the end? Perfect
Well Done. No negative comments from me. You did great!!
Thanks!
I loved your maybes and what ifs.
