  • Easy Foam Removal From Jon Boat Bench
Hey guys, I have another customer boat project here at #brigadeboats .
In today's vidro I will give a quick and easy tutorial on one of the first things necessary in the build process: gutting the foam from the bench seats!
In this video I'll cover an easy and effective method I use to remove the foam from jon boat bench seats. Minimal mess. Easy. I'll give you insight as to the pros and cons of foam removal and why I consistently incorporate it into my builds. I'll show you the tools required, a full how to demonstration and the final product!
Stick around to the end to see a sneak peek of how the boat came together a few weeks later!

Just removed the foam on mine, and it went pretty much this easily... Thanks, Anthony!

I always carry a small machete in my boat for cutting cattails etc and I used it to remove the foam in my seats. Just heated it with a mapp gas torch and melted it out. A lot less mess

I want to remove the middle bench in my topper 15 that has the livewell built in, but I read where it can weaken it and cause the rivets to leak, what do you think? I mean removing completely, unlike what you did here.

Was wondering if you cut out the top of the seat bench can you just have the whole hatch open and put a lid on it or would it wreck the structure of the boat

I'm currently in the process of removing the foam in my seats. However, where else should foam be added back into the boat? I saw another one of your videos installing floor boards and placing foam board along the floor...is there any concern with fresh water, salt water, or fuel getting in the groves and making contact with the foam board? Any feed back is greatly appreciated! Thank you and keep up the awesome videos!

I do fresh water only, not sure about salt. Also, fuel will eat the foam. Don't recommend putting it near where gas may spill

Did you flip your circular saw blade backwards to cut the aluminum I was always told to flip the blade for cutting metal?

Ha! I thought of the reciprocating saw when I saw the chainsaw video! Working on plans to convert my "new" 1993 Northwood 12', and have been DEVOURING your videos! Thanks so much for sharing everything along the way.

No problem man👊 Thank you! Chainsaw was just a gimmick lol, recip the way to go, just don't cut through the hull!

Question for the cuzzins here: What adhesive works well to laminate extruded polystyrene (e.g., Owens-Corning "pink" insulation) together in a waterproof way? I've heard Gorilla Glue works, PL300 for foamboard works, and there might be others. I even heard that Glidden "Gripper" primer/sealer works well. Thoughts from the cuzzins??

    • @AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats
      @AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats  Před 2 lety

That question sounds more like an engineering question my cuzin! I honestly have not a clue but perhaps someone will respond here who is more knowledgeable on the subject. Sorry, this one is above my pay grade cuz.

@@AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats Haha, mine too! Some of my post-question research revealed some pretty amazing solutions. One obvious one was Great Stuff Gaps & Cracks Formula, but it can be kind of tough to control, and panels definitely need to be weighted down while the Great Stuff expands. One surprising solution I saw several times was PPG Gripper/Primer (formerly Glidden Gripper), although there was a question about how it might be a challenge to hot-wire-cut through. Lastly, I saw a lot of people recommending epoxy resin, but they were quick to say that you have to use the EPOXY resin, not the polyester resin (e.g., Bondo Fiberglass Resin)...poly resin will eat the foam, while epoxy won't. Anyway, I think I kind of answered my own question while waiting to hear from the masses! LOL

Where the livewell video for this boat?

Not one. I did a 2 part livewell series on my channel featuring same set up. Just look it up
