    In this video, we show how we built our custom removable casting deck for our 12 foot Jon Boat. This was quite the project but well worth the time and effort. We built the casting deck so that we could get some elevation when fishing and using casting nets, as well as to give us more organized storage space when fishing. This was our first time building a casting deck... What do you guys think? Let us know down below!
    UPDATE We added a velcro pouch on the front wall of the deck for some added storage. This was added after this video was recorded.
    Tell us about your own Jon Boat casting deck and other modifications if you have any!
    If you're following along, leave questions down below! We'll be happy to describe what we did in more detail!

    Nice Job. It looks great! Doing pretty much the same for my Alumacrat 14 foot jon. I would have never thought about the rubber feet. Probably makes it a lot quieter too.

    Great job guys. The only thing I have ti say beside that it is a badass deck. Is not to use treated plywood on an aluminum boat. I am currently fixing am aluminum boat that the previous owner used treated wood for the transom and it ate through the aluminum like you have no idea. Costly repair now for sure.

    • @TheReelStrike
      @TheReelStrike  Před 5 lety

      Yes we've heard that this could be an issue and if we ever made a new deck we'd keep that in mind. Nearly a year in, we haven't seen any damage. The wood has been painted over and we normally remove the deck after we use the boat so that should minimize the damage. But I appreciate the warning!

      Thanks! A casting deck update vid is on the idea board. We've gotten some questions about the deck lately that we can answer more in depth in a future video. In a nutshell, it's held up very well. No problems on the water with it and cleaning/storing it after each use has kept it looking good

    Nice details and explanation.. looks clean.. Curious though.. the one thing I didn’t catch.. Is the plywood marine grade? I noticed you didn’t seal it. The elements are brutal down here..

    • @TheReelStrike
      @TheReelStrike  Před 5 lety

      The wood we used wasn't marine grade but it is pressure treated. We do intend on storing the casting deck when not in use so for the most part it won't need to face the Florida climate.. And thanks for watching!

    • @ARob16x
      @ARob16x Před 5 lety +1

      TheReelGPU I hope u make sure none of the wood is remotely touching your boat. Pressure treated wood will corrode aluminum!

    • @TheReelStrike
      @TheReelStrike  Před 3 lety +1

      There wasn't any foam on that part of the boat, which made it easy to install a hatch for emergency equipment. Glad we could give you some ideas for your own build!

      That's interesting. We watched a few videos for ideas before building the deck and saw mostly wooden decks. Hadn't considered PVC. Maybe we'll build another one to improve on the gainz💪🤣

  • @cooltech73
    @cooltech73 Před 4 lety

    do you guys find your boat to be pretty stable while out in the water, the reason asking me and my buddy bought a jon boat but its a 1032 model.. we just had to find that right balance but its a great little boat.. great video BTW..

    • @TheReelStrike
      @TheReelStrike  Před 4 lety +1

      Overall, we find it to be very stable. Sometimes we cruise into another boat's wake and brace ourselves, only for the jon boat to take it like a champ. It's sometimes easy to lose balance when the other person on the boat moves around unexpectedly, causing the boat to lean more to the right or left. But overall, it's much more stable than we initially thought it would be. The 10 footer might be a little less stable but that would ultimately depend on the water conditions and the weight distribution

    • @cooltech73
      @cooltech73 Před 4 lety

      @@TheReelStrike Yea that's what we found too, the first few times had to figure that balance. I also haven't done any mods to it either, keeping it original for now and light. that's what I love about it.. maybe next boat will be the 12 -14ft more room. lol

  • @Self-EsteemandHowtoImprove
