  • In this video I'm in Ortona, an Italian town in the province of Chieti in Abruzzo and more precisely in Contrada San Leonardo, near Contrada San Donato where in the previous video we visited the Church of San Donato and the Canadian Military Cemetery. Here stands the Church of San Leonardo Abate, whose origins are very ancient. The story goes that outside the district, in Mulino a Fosso Vallone, there is a small cave, identified as the abbot's hermitage, where the miraculous statue now preserved in the church was found. According to some, that place was the abbot's own shelter. The current church dates back to the 18th century renovation and has been perfectly restored, following the neo-classical country style, following the cannonade of the Canadian battleships in 1943. It has a rectangular plan with a single nave. The facade is adorned with a triangular tympanum upper architrave which contains a raised oculus and the coat of arms of San Leonardo. The central architraved portal occupies almost the entire facade. The stocky bell tower stands on the right and ends with a pyramidal spire in which the clock bells are housed, now no longer active.
The belfry has a concert of 3 electrified bells that move in the windows. In the video we see the solemn sound with the ascending plenum immediately followed by the festive one. Sunday festive mass is at 11 am and the programmed festive sound 45, 30 and 15 minutes before is the expanse of the 2 minor bells. The parish priest was kind enough to perform the solemn sound exclusively for the recording of the bells. The Computer in the sacristy is by A.C.O. by Fara Filiorum Petri (CH). The bell kept in the sacristy is unfortunately broken.

Per me sono discrete come reti perché alla fine le campane si vedono benissimo. Ti ringrazio per l' apprezzamento.
