  • Anchor dragged in 80 Knots of wind, engine over heated, went up onto a reef then wind dropped to 30 knots and I rowed out 35 kg anchor, we winched vessel off, made repairs and then sailed 3000 miles to Cape Town

    Well done. As someone who did quite a bit of sailing when I was in my teens and twenties, I can only respect the quality of build in Windora, the quality of the repair (from what I could see about both the temporary fix and the permanent one), and your command of the tools and tackle. Thanks!

    Omg, your lucky to have such boat. Mine would been smashed to pieces in those conditions. Best regards Knut, your neighbour in Florvåg Båtforening, Norway.

    Well Done! I have been to South Georgia with an expedition ship and the weather is always a challenge. Great that you could do the repairs in Grytviken. Yeah once again, very impressive handling of that situation..

    Well well well, well done guys, that's a video plenty of people should see to understand that when everything seems to be over, on the wrong side, there is always something to do. To be honest it remembers me a similar situation :). Then VERY NICE YACHT....

    The most heartwrenching thing for a seafarer to see and exprience... but what seamanship! Well done!!! What a stunning vessel. What designis she? Who built her?

      Hi Craig, Windora was designed by Athol Burns a naval architect from Wellington NZ, in his lifetime designed over 700 hundred vessels. She was commissioned for Alan Scott an engineer from Port Charmers Dunedin. Lynda and I have owned her and sailed her about the planet now for 30 years. All the best Phil and Lynda

      Thanks. I was more sad than scared at the time, thinking we would lose the boat, but Phil never stopped thinking and got her off. She's a big part part of our life and our youngest son will enjoy her once we get too old.

  • @SailingBrickHouse-RVLife

    Wow...where are you now...we would love to meet you if in S Africa. We are hauled out in Richards Bay, and heading to southern South America next year... Rebecca On Brick House

      Hi Patrick Lynda and I have just arrived in Iceland heading over the top for Isortiq Greenland then Newfoundland to Nova Scotia. What are your plans. PHIL

  • @chhindz
    @chhindz Před 2 lety

    Yep wire ties just are not the thing sometimes, aircraft wire would be better, I'm sure they engineered a good solution

      Hi Christopher, Go take a look at any brand new yanmar marine diesel engine, the electrical cables are held in place using plastic cable ties. Sometimes shit happens. Phil

      Have seen some ships, have metal bridges for cables and maybe hoses.

  • @josephinebennington7247

    Very interesting but....why have “watertight” bulkheads got hatches through them? That’s not watertight.

    • @philandlyndachristieson8808
      @philandlyndachristieson8808  Před 3 lety +1

      Bulkheads 2-3 and 4 are watertight to the hull if you flood a chamber it will not go over the sills into the next chamber. Bulkheads 1 & 5 are fully watertight if you flood all 3 intermediate chambers there's enough buoyancy to keep her afloat. Athol Burns designed over 700 vessels in his lifetime a Naval Architect from Wellington New Zealand
