    The take off of an eight inch pipe is 5 inches on a 45° elbow. Therefore you multiply that by two and u subtract that by the travel. That gives you the spool size. Also in pipe fitting dont forget to subtract your 1/8 gaps for the welding.

  • @htownlifestyle
    @htownlifestyle Před 7 lety +2

    8 is the diameter pipe. Take half of 8, then half of 4, then half of 2, which is 1. Take the 2nd and 4th number which equals 5. That's in inches. Convert to mm and you have 127mm. There are two sides so 127 times 2= 254mm. 707mm - 254mm = 453mm. Explaining how you get these answers helps people, otherwise they are stuck in confusion. The video helped, but there were things i had to figure on my own that you didn't point out. Thanks.

      its the same bro... for inches it is correct that 5/8 or .625 multiply by 8" pipe diameter.then multiply by 2 elbow. for milimeter or mm it is 15.8 mm multiply by 8" pipe multiply by 2 elbow. depends on what you are using. inches or mm

      38.1 is the simplest way to get the take off of long radius elbow 90 degre. Ex. 38.1 multiply by the size of the elbow.
      On 45 degree long radius. 15.8 multiply again to the size of the elbow.

    Also, if the elevation from center to center is 500 on your two 90s, how is it that you only need 109.6 of pipe to tie the two pieces in? What happened to the the other 491? If a takeout for a 90 is 1.5 x Pipe Size... then the take out for an 8 inch pipe should be 12 right? And 24 if you add the other.... Are we doing a different computation here?

      1.414 is a constant used when calculating the hypotenuse of a right angle triangle (1.414 X rise or run). It’s faster than calculating the square root of rise X rise + run X run (Pythagorean Theorem).

      15.8 is the formula for 45 degree elbow. multiply to pipe size or diameter of pipe.then multiply by 2 because there are 2 elbow

      the formula is pipesize x 5/8 ..15.8 is converted to metric 25.4. 1 inch, so 25.4 x 5/8 =15.875

    Where did the 38.1 come from???

    • @kennethmelnychuk9737
      @kennethmelnychuk9737 Před 3 lety

      He’s mixing metric & SAE in his calculations; 38.1mm = 1.5”. Therefore the centreline calculation of a 90 degree, long radius elbow is: fitting diameter X 1.5 (8” dia. X 1.5 = 12”) OR. (203.2mm/8”” X 1.5 = 304.8mm/12”.
      I’m a Canadian Pipefitter & I use both systems on various job sites but I don’t mix them up like this. It’s always one system or the other, usually SAE but it’s easier to calculate the whole numbers for spool lengths in the metric system as opposed to fractions in the SAE (imperial) system. It can get really screwy if I start mixing & converting.
      I hope that this helps.
