- IN WHICH our intrepid recreatrix jumps into the future instead of the past with the beginning installment of a three-part post-apocalyptic series wherein she attempts to make clothing built to withstand the Texas summer. Join me as I make a couple of solar-punk inspired pieces meant to cover my torso, and test them out in the heat.

3-5 business seconds lol
Listen it is so hot here
@OpusElenae My Momma used to say it's hotter than Hade's hoohaw.🥵
Hey don't mock our freedom measurements! 😉
(J/k it's ridiculous. And ridiculously hot.)
“Three to five business seconds.” 😂 Yeah, I washed my sheets today because it was 90 something and windy. I only had to hang them for half an hour.
Summer is wretched. Anything over 90 is only fit for hornytoads and cacti. Love the indigo tunic!
I’m in the Houston area, and as a queer Heathen Witch, I can empathize with your feelings towards Texas’ heat and politics ONE THOUSAND PERCENT, lol. Your channel never fails to lift my spirits watching you empower yourself through fashion. I really loved the red and white stays/bodies (?) you were sewing in at one point of the video. Do you have a video in which you showcase their construction? I’d love to see it. I hope you get much wear and enjoyment out of these pieces. Happy Pride Month 🏳️🌈
Oh my gosh, I've never seen that technique to distribute gathering by distributing with pins then gathering, that was mind blowing!
It’s the only way I gather things now!
The parallelogram bias tape method is brilliant
I WILL NEVER GO BACK
CZcams turned off notifications again... So glad I found this ❤
I started hemming my ruffles before attaching them & lemme tell you it is sooooo much easier that way
Interesting, I’ll have to try that next time
Fabulous Tops. Need to make the navy one.
Looks forward to the next part.
Summer is kicking my butt this year . This is fabulous and giving me ideas! Currently wearing a viking apron dress as a strapless summer dress and a hood to cover my shoulders and head all in linen. I think I look pretty and I'm not to hot
I love the idea of an apron dress as a sun dress!
I definitely want to make the second top. I like the first one minus the ruffle. ❤❤❤
I’m thinking about making another one with no ruffle but longer with tiny pin tucks instead
Lovely reaction ..."I don't wanna seam rip this and ruffle it again... congrats, you get to be a French seam now!"
And I am totally using that parallelogram tube trick next time I need to make bias tape! Brilliant! though I probably want to adjust it for lefthanded cutting.
As usual: I neeeeeeeed that chiton top!
Thank you for the inspiration yet again!
It was so easy to make
These clothes a both stylish and functional for taking on the crazy adventure that is sweltering heat.
Very wearable in 35c heat and attractive with a brilliant save there. We had that here, way up north in nova Scotia this week with humidity makeing it feel like 44c. I stayed inside and made viking clothes for my 22 month old granddaughter for the july 1st camping event because she has out grown everything she had. And mom has a new management job. I had fun exploring the embroidery stitches on my machine.
I am drinking Perrier with lime.
Ugh humidity is the worst, sweating doesn’t even do anything
Not to mention it feels like you're drowning just breathing if it's bad enough
@@Sunny-Jade 100%. It’s worse in Houston than austin, but Houston has trees, so there’s shade… such crappy tradeoffs
Good save with the side seams
I literally almost cried
Wow you look so cool! The navy one is my favourite
Great stuff as always, big dawg.
Getting ready for the near future in style 😃
I love this series so much! I commend your bravery in finding a way to come to terms with the literal and metaphorical heat
They're gorgeous :) Will most likely try a version of the purple chiton-ish once my sewing mojo returns from the wars...
Was that Babylon 5? Love the ruffled top/dress, looks comfortable and breezy.
It was! I’m rewatching it with Partner and I was catching up
oh what a wonderful idea!
I don't do well in the heat, so summer and I are also on bad terms. But your garments look so cute and comfortable! ❤
I enjoy your videos so much. Your reveals are always so nice to watch. I admire your sewing, filming, and how you get the drape and movement to be so *aesthetic*
Water with unintentional milk for my beverage of the moment.(pragmatism)
My take away lesson:
Think & look before pouring more water into a "random" vessel.
I, also, have a summer that is harsher than I can enjoy (not every day, but, still unpleasant). I yearn for protective lightweight wear, but, don't seem to prioritize it.
Yeay Babylon 5!
Yay! B5 + sewing! Immediate subscribe ;)
I’m loving all the B5 fans showing up!
Great work! I need to dye some linen pants of mine that are faded and stained.
That chiton is a *need*. I also need to figure what to wear under it... I'm not a fan of pants but maybe one of my sleeveless chemises would work...
I might do a “style this” short, since it’s such an odd garment.
The lilac silver looked like beautiful silvery leaves and the chitin looked elvish. Watching Susan Ivanova while sewing was neat. Tornado has grown. She's almost as tall as their (is this right pronoun?) mom. I abhor summer too.
They’re (all pronouns are accepted, thank you for checking!) getting there. We need to go buy shoes AGAIN.
Gotta be honest. For a post apocalypse outfit, I might have left the serged seam out. Lots of fast fashion does that now.
I thought about it, but ultimately it would decrease the re-wearability for me personally. I think if I’d planned it, that would be different

Hate summer as well 😂
Idk who designed this I wanna talk to a manager
@@OpusElenae haha 😂
Did I get that right that for the first garment you copied an existing one?
Also: Now I want vanilla green tea!
YOU’RE WATCHING BABYLON 5!!!!!
I am! I love that show!
@@OpusElenae it literally raised me. I get so stoked when I see anyone watching B5
@@melissamenchaca9121 I missed it on tv, Partner introduced me to it and it just… masterful storytelling.
