Dear friends and followers welcome back to my channel, today I´ll be another classic passenger question, why does “Why do flight attendants dim the lights prior to take-off and landing during hours of darkness?" Why does the tray table need to be stowed away, the window blinds up, and the seat put in an upright position? And I´ll give you little plane hack you can check out for yourself.
I´m sure many of you have experienced this, you taxi to the active runway during hours of darkness, the cabin crew makes their announcements, Ladies and gentlemen, in preparation for take-off we would like you to open up the window blinds, stow your tray table, and bring your seat in the upright position". A few minutes later the flight attendant dims the cabin lights.
But have you ever questioned why the flight attendants dim the lights?
It´s all got to do with eye adaptation.
If the cabin lights were to be fully bright, and there would be an emergency situation, after a rejected take-off, for instance, you would then jump onto the slide into absolute darkness, as your eyes struggle with the sudden change.
Why does the tray table need to be stowed?
Again, during an emergency evacuation, an unstowed table from an aisle seat, could be hazardous for the passengers in the middle and window seat. Many people struggle with the easiest tasks during a panic situation.
Why does the seat need to be in the upright position? If your backrest is reclined, the passenger right behind hasn´t got enough headspace in case he has to get into the brace position prior touchdown. Also, a reclined backrest could be obstructive during an evacuation.
Why do the windows blinds need to be open?
Primarily, so that you and the flight attendants see what´s going on outside of the plane.
Back to our engine fire situation. If you see flames piling up out of the engine on your side of the plane, you know you do not want to exit on that side of the plane.
Watch the entire video for more information and a plane hack you can check out for yourself the next time you´re in a passenger seat.
Thanks for watching, all the best your "Captain" Joe

If the airlines would show this video at the start of a flight, a lot more people would actually do what there told.

i always thought those rules were stupid, and i hated them so much. Now i have much more respect for it. It makes total sense not to have your reclined seat reclined.

This would be way more effective to play to passengers nowadays who don't listen.

The flight attendants dim the lights so our eyes have time to adjust to the darkness outside so we may fully appreciate the view as we're free fall tumbling into the ocean.
