  • This time at the Quick Speed Shop I'm going to show you the steps to install Speedway Motors 11" disc brake kit for 1937-1948 Ford spindles. I ordered this kit with a 5 on 4 1/2" bolt pattern, but it is also available in 5 on 4 3/4" pattern as well. I show each step of the installation on the dropped axle on my 1929 Model A Ford hot rod shop truck.

    Thank you very much. So easy a caveman (me) can do it! Will be doing this on my 1941 ford super deluxe with new bendix brakes on the rear.

    Thanks for a great video! I'm installing the same kit and the Speedway instructions are not very clear.

    Anybody else catch the Michael Scott reference in there?
    Thanks for sharing, I’ll be doing this to my 29’ soon. I’m tired of people not realizing how they can’t slam on brakes in front of a 100 yr old car.

    You can use your toaster oven for powder coating too. I got the biggest toaster oven I could find, after a while you can't see through the window anymore!

    Do you have the part numbers for those rotors and calipers? Much thanks and great content!

      It's the Speedway 11 inch rotor kit for early Ford axles. Easy to find on the website.

    I have a set of 15 '' ford steel rims , they are older but I don't know how old , do you think they will fit on this conversion ? great vid. keep up the good work

    • @QuickSpeedShop
      @QuickSpeedShop  Před 2 lety

      They will fit as long as they are 5 on 4 1/2" bolt pattern AND they don't have the super small center hole that some Ford wheels had. For example, early '50s Ford car wheels have the right bolt pattern, but the hub hole is too small to fit the late-model rotor.

    Quick question. I have this exact kit I'm about to put on my '36 ford (with '37 spindles I just put on). Why are the rotors scraping the pads when you spin them around at the end? Is that normal after an install and they will open back up off the rotor once you hook it to the hydraulic lines and bleed?

    • @QuickSpeedShop
      @QuickSpeedShop  Před rokem

      Pads always drag on the rotors a little. If there was a gap, every time you hit the brakes the pedal would go to the floor until the pads made contact.

    Is there a reason you can't use this kit on a 30 axle? I see all the kits are for 36-48 spindles.

    • @QuickSpeedShop
      @QuickSpeedShop  Před měsícem

      The axle isn't the problem, it's the spindles. All my axles are Model A axles. You need '37 and up spindles

  • @peternuttall1952
    @peternuttall1952 Před rokem

    With the ease the rotor dropped onto the spindle are you not concerned that the rear bearing inner race is spinning on the adapter rendering the benefit of bearing useless?

    • @QuickSpeedShop
      @QuickSpeedShop  Před rokem

      It fit good and has been fine for several thousand miles.

      @@QuickSpeedShop I guess the load on the spindle from the front (castled) nut locks it together.

    What spindles are you using with the steering arms. All the kits I see the spindles has no arms. Thanks.

      If your spindles are missing the steering arms You will need www.speedwaymotors dot com/1937-48-Ford-Steering-Arms-3-3-4-Inch-Drop,25541.html
      Sorry I had to corrupt the link or CZcams would have thought it was spam just remove the "dot" for a "." If that makes sense
