I'm not a big fan of Whitney Houston or this song, but this lady sung it more softly and beautifully. She's got a softer more gentle voice which I prefer for a song like this.

Sohyang isn't as well known or famous as mega artists of today. But, rest assured Sohyang had left her mark in vocal pedagogy history book as one of the all time greats for her techniques. It's not an exaggeration, she's that legendary. For those who aren't into the technical stuff, as you have discovered yourself, she has excellent emotive capability too on top of her virtuosity. Thus, I often recommend to new reactors of Sohyang to bring tissue, just in case. 😁 Inspiration, emotion, joy, even pure awe have been known to move some of Sohyang reactors to tears.

All the vocalists/instrumentalists are well known in Korea and performed televised live outdoor concerts together during the lockdown (Begin Again Korea). She often stuns them. Sohyang contributed to many duets, trios and ensembles in addition to her solos which include "I'll be there" (Mariah), "I won't give up" (Mraz), "If I ain't got you" (Alicia), "Misty" (Ella Fitzgerald's version), many sad Korean ballads (Please, Back in Time, Go to You Like First Snow) and the music video "Never Enough". If you want to hear her rap listen to "Day Day" ensemble performance. Plus see her older performance others and I recommended.

Her performance of 'I Have Nothing' is nothing short of EPIC. She even surpasses Whitney IMO. Just beware of the modulations as she takes the song to the stratosphere.
You definitely get her, she has an inner sweetness that matches her voice and physical beauty and she makes you feel things that other singers just can't. For followups I would recommend Arirang Alone as your next song, and if you want to see her cover another Whitney Houston song but a couple of keys higher then I Have Nothing is a good one as well.

And, yes, this was originally recorded by Dolly Parton, but it is mkst commonly known as a Whitney Houston song, simply because she sang it more beautifully than any singer has ever sung it before her or likely ever will following her. I have seen many reaction videos on CZcams but this one was by far the best. I dont know how you've managed to miss her especially as you are well aquainted with dimash because where dimash is referred to as the king when it comes to vocals,sohyang is often referred to as his queen. You were so impressed with that performance but basically that is sohyang 'busking'.a small group of singers & musicians went to various workplaces & public spaces to perform a few songs to cheer up the workforce etc whilst the world is in the midst of a pandemic,which is why there were so few people in the audience. Like I said,she is busking, just a piano & a guitar (or nothing when she sings a capella) to help her along,not that she needs it, raw,untampered with vocals,sat down with her legs cross,neither of which are ideal for a singer, and she can perform that song like that,wait til you see some of her other performances with a live orchestra.BTW sohyang does the arrangements for all the songs she performs. In this performance,due to a lack of instruments, there was no sax for the saxaphone solo midway through the song so she obviously thought she adlib & do it herself. I think you noticed her fellow performers staring at her,mouths open, well this happens a lot with her so its a sight you should get used to if you're gonna react to more sohyang, she is phenomenal. 99% of her performances that are available to watch are live performances,usually from various TV programmes but she's recently released a music video of her singing 'never enough', a rarity in itself & although I love sohyang I thought 'oh no' because although I do like the song,i'm a bit tired of hearing it as everyman & his dog seem to be covering it at the moment, but I think sohyang's version,true to form,sits right at the top. You should read her back story & why she's not a worldwide megastar,she's certainly got the talent & its not through a lack of trying to sign her up by many international record labels.
