  • Toyota, the leading automotive brand, makes up over 12% of global new car sales. Yet, with the rise of electric vehicles (EVs) predicted to represent one in five sales by 2023, Toyota faces challenges. Tesla sees annual sales spikes of 40-50%, while Toyota has its largest sales drop ever. Former leader Akio Toyoda was skeptical about the quick EV shift. Now, with Europe pushing to ban gasoline vehicles by 2035, Toyota has entered the EV race. Their first EV, the BZ4, faced recalls, impacting their reputation. Koji Sato, a former Lexus president, now leads Toyota, hinting at diverse strategies beyond just EVs. Toyota aims to cut CO2 emissions significantly by 2050 and seeks a multifaceted approach to meet different global needs.
In summary, as the car industry shifts towards electrification, Toyota's broad strategy could help them adapt to challenges and offer varied solutions for global markets.

Hydrogen seems to have big headwinds. I hope the solid state battery works. The opposed piston ICE engines look promising, too.
