- [Hi-Fi Stereo] Garth, from "Wayne's World" has a lengthy intro segment, before U2 performs, followed by a brief outro comedic-segment, with Andrew Dice Clay....
Recorded in LP mode, at the time, so the video isn't Hi-Def, but the music is in decent quality. - Hudba
I remember seeing this as a kid. Man, this was a trip. I miss the 90s.
90s : high point of civilisation
I was in Detroit that night. Great show
Miss the old MTV
This was a great bit. And I heard that it was taking a while for U2 to stream in, so Dana Carvey had to ad-lib like crazy to fill the time. That alone was impressive.
Professional
I remember this, I was like 9 at the time. Now I’m 40. Where does the time go? I miss the Mtv of yesterday too. And pop culture in general.
I was at the U2 concert at the Pontiac Silverdome that night. It's the one time I've seen U2 in concert and it was amazing.
I was there too! Wearing my Lollapalooza 2 shirt..picked myself out of the crowd after watching it on VHS we taped it on haha
@@cannachefchris9346 that's awesome. I taped it to watch later too but we were somewhere in the lower bowl and I never could see myself .
I was just watching Wayne's World for the zillionth time and I just remembered this bit from the MTV Music Awards. This was pretty mind blowing at the time.
90's High point of civilisation!
I remember watching this on TV at 15 years old and it blew my mind that U2 was playing at the Silverdome and a global audience was seeing it. I can't believe The Dome is gone. I loved that place. It's eerie to drive by there now.
The time when mtv awards was big really big

It all went downhill from here, folks!
MTV claims this collaboration with Garth and U2 was improvised in the moment. As a television crew member of many, many productions since 2006 I'm here to tell you they're full of shit. Something like this takes careful planning a little luck.
Planned but seems so natural
I completely agree with you, this probably took a lot of planning. Must have been silly for those in the actual audience to sit there and watch Garth drum out of time cause of the delay back to where the show was being broadcast from.
Looking back on this, it was probably the most cringe worthy moment of the Zoo TV tour. Edge looked like he couldn't wait for this bit to be over.
Bono is so annoyingly witty! He has a comeback for everything!
He is Irish, part of life there!
You can't make any of these jokes anymore. All canceled. How awful.
You obviously don’t know how jokes work.
