  • My name is Josh. Subtitles:17 languages. I loved his cool guitar! His voice is bright and has a great tone. They really are a cool band and Floor and Marco blended very well. Sad to see Marco go but I'm sure he'll do amazing things wherever he lands. I can't wait to experience more Nightwish live masterpieces. Thank you for watching my reactions.

It is quite unbelievable that they forgot to translate that part. If somebody watched through it, how can this happen? I guess I shouldn't be surprised, because sometimes (usually) I feel the same when I'm watching some movies. If someone actually watched that movie, how can there be some really irritating special effects and completely f'd up audio, so that you need to turn volume really loud that you can hear normal talking, and then your ear drums get shattered when there is some action. Who can enjoy that? Even in movie theater I hate that, and if you have small children, there is no way to watch those at home without subtitles.

@@NightwishArena you are so right, the sound engineers make or break an experience.
It’s known because commercials are supposed to follow rules which do not allow extreme volume jumps for attention grabbing in television yet often ignore it.
Within a movie though is inexcusable.

For more Marco as Nightwish lead vocals:
High Hopes Live (Pink Floyd cover) - Tarja era NW performance. Just Marco singing, I think Tarja was off stage changing. One of my favorite cover songs ever, arguably as good if not better than the original. More of a tribute re-imagined NW metal version of the original. (This was the concert that Tarja was dismissed immediately afterwards, you can see the angst on their faces)
While Your Lips Are Still Red (Live at Wembley) - Ballad style, Floor providing the harmonies
Endlessness - metal; dark in tone, but lyrically an optimistic-existential subject. No live version, the last song from their newest album. Effectively Marco’s last work with Nightwish as of today (ironically appropriate given his announcement)

Farewell brother Marko. We will sorely miss you and that double-neck Warwick Infinity 4-string base on top Framus Pantera guitar at the bottom. Through-out his career with Nightwish Marko remained a constant supply of solid vocals to which ever lady was fronting the band and a solid music making wing man for Tuomas. To the vast majority of fans who just recently discovered Nightwish after the latest CZcams reactions, Marko's voice often gets lost in the shuffle. To those of us who were lucky enough to discover Marko in the mid-80s with Tarrot, he has always been a vocal front man and a world-class base player and musician. Once Marko figures out his direction again, I am looking forward to some more Tarrot magic (fingers crossed...). By the way, Marko needed to get a T-Shirt saying "My back up singer is Floor Jensen".

Marko having to hold back with vocals was with Anette, the 2nd female vocalist of Nightwish.
    Great Marko vocals:
"High Hopes" a cover/tribute to Pink Floyd. Helsinki 2005 (End of an Era DVD)
"Slaying the Dreamer" from the same concert, Marko with Tarja. This might be better than with Floor and Marko Buenos Aires 2018.
Both performances very good, extra powerfull vocals by Marko, I think because he knew what was coming, firing Tarja, in which he was an active player, he thought the situation in Nightwish was unbearable.
I also love "7 days to the Wolves" Wembley Arena 2015 with Floor and Marko. Anette era song, but Marko and Floor together on vocals on this song is amazing. I don't even want to imagine Marko and Tarja performing this song. There's no way it could sound as good as with Marko and Floor. The song was written by Tuomas and Marko.
"Ghost River" Wacken 2013, mean, scary vocals, Floor the opposite, beautiful vocals, with a short growl. "Weak Fantasy" Tampere 2015, co-written, both composition and lyrics, by Marko and Tuomas, Marko being the main composer, vocals F+M. "The Greatest Show on Earth" Tampere 2015, composition by T+M, lyrics T. Wocals F+M. "Your is an Empty Hope" Wembley 2015, propably the heaviest Nightwish song, heavy vocals by F+M. I guess Master Passion Greed is even heavier, angry Marko screaming his lungs out all trough the song. Never peformed live, there's not even a music video. Just the album version, and a lyrics video by a fan. Another one with angry vocals by Marko is "Bye Bye Beautiful" Official Music Video, more than 100M views, I think there is an ok live video too. "Elan" Buenos Aires 2018, Floor and Marko, his backing vocals sound excellent to my ear.
There are so many good ones with Marko. Tarot "Tides" Undead Indeed '06 DVD. Tarot "Wings of Darkness" 1986 or 2011 version. Marko's big brother Zachary played the guitar in Tarot. There is no Tarot anymore after one member died. I guess you could call the music classic heavy rock.
In 2019 Marko released his 1st! solo album. Isäni ääni/The Voice of My Father and Kiviä/Stones are great songs. Both Finnish and English language versions. Isäni ääni/The Voice of My Father mellower but strong vocals, Kiviä/Stones, heavier song and vocals.
Marko has sang with 3 other Finnish guys in Northern Kings, and in Powerless Trio. He akso has a group called "All Hietala Power Trio" with his son Miro 19 on drums and brother Zachary on guitar. Last summer they played Black Sabbath covers in a 30 minute live stream, two consecutive days. During the live stream someone asked what bands Marko had played in. The answer came fast. What bands has he NOT played in. So I'm sure there's is more what Marko has done.

This is one of the few Nightwish songs that the lyrics don't require interpretation. It's about an old lighthouse keeper, looking back on his life - he lived a good life, used to have a wife and kids ("Princess in the tower, children in the field") but they're all gone now ("Now his love's a memory, ghost in the fog") and he's tired and ready to pass on to reunite with his loved ones. You might like to see the official video (with Anette) on your own time, just to see the story in the video - and also, what you just heard sounds a bit different than the studio version. czcams.com/video/--tFFz44zvc/video.html

About the lyrics, it’s pretty much shown in the music video. I’ve read somewhere that Tuomas said the lyrics are more descriptive than symbolic.
It’s about a lighthouse-keeper living in an island, reminiscing the bygone time when he still had something to live for: princess in the tower, children in the field-his family. Perhaps something happened that he lost them all: now his love’s a memory, a ghost in the fog.
In the last scene of the music video, the islander was standing on a cliff, feet on the grass, and dropped the anchor to the sea, his foot tied to the rope.
    It’s basically about a suicide.

I wrote so many notes while watching your reaction, which was great BTW.
Marko wrote the music, and Tuomas the lyrics.
Marko (used to spell it Marco) is a classically trained guitarist.
We will miss the harmonies of Marko and Floor.
To see how Marko has unleashed his demon, compare "Seven Days to the Wolves" live at Wembley with Floor (one of my favourite performances) with the same song with
Anette at Gampel open Air 2008. He is so restrained when singing with Anette.
Please watch the official music video for this. It's excellent and spins a take on the lyrics.
To change your mind about vocal slides, watch "Romanticide" at Wacken 2013.
There will be tons of recommendations, but "Ghost River" and the Pink Floyd tribute to "High Hopes" are recommended.
Recently, Marko won the Finnish version of the Masked Singer. Check him out doing Elton John, Backstreet Boys and more.

On your last reaction, I recommended that you react to Aurora's "Through The Eyes Of A Child". One reason I think you would really like her is of her lyrics. They are not like typical songs they are very deep. She is not a pop singer, in fact, I would need your help to tell me what type of music it is, maybe folk music not sure. She has been writing music since she was 6 and this song was written when she was 11. She taught herself to play the piano at 6 when she found a piano in their attic. She never thought of becoming a singer, she made a song for a Christmas present for her parents and about the same time they did a Christmas show at her school both got put on the internet by friends, this was when she was 16 by 17 she was signed by a record company and they put her on a 3-year tour. Unlike Angelina Jordan, her family did not know the record business or how to protect her from it. She ended up collapsing from being pushed too hard. But everything seems fine now she is 24 now and loves singing and still writing music. She is quite a character in interviews she has no filter, she says what pops into her mind, I think she could have been a comedian if not a singer but her voice is angelic and mystical.

Hei ystäväni ! You pronounced very well . I hope you are well after being ill with covid. - You might like to react to Marco Hietala singing with his band Tarot " Wings of Darkness " from 1986 . There is also a video where he sings it 2011 with Tarot, but you´ll enjoy seeing so very young Marko with his glam rock hair in the older clip . There´s also another short old video you´d might like to see: " Marco Hietala yhtyeistä Tarot ja Nightwish avautuu laulamisesta v. 1987 | Marco about singing" . There he talks a bit about taking singing lessons etc, and a vocal coach talks about his singing.

I think that comment about the powerful voice of Floor had more to do with the 2nd singer Anette that was between Tarja and Floor, because he said it when Floor came along, not after Tarja left.
Like you said, Tarja has power also, just a very different timber and style than Floor. Though Floor can sing with a style you give her :) Wonder if there is one she hasn't trained? Anette is a good singer too, you can hear that in the studio versions. Her misfortune was she couldn't sing the operatic songs Nightwish was known for with Tarja. Plus the touring went sometimes unfavorably for her, and she ended up the 2rd singer for many of the fans. But respect for her work, many good songs recorded at her time.

Though Tarja didn't have that rock grit in her voice, that some like with Floor. Floor is clearly the most versatile of the 3, but some songs I still prefer to hear with Tarja, though Floor has sang them, like Sleeping Sun; and some with Floor., like Ghost Love Score. A few I like with Anette, like Amaranth (official video). It's like how they sound - which instument they are: Tarja is like a flute, Anette is like the acoustic guitar nd Flooe like a string orchestra from bass to the smallest violin.
Marco shines in High Hopes (Pink Floyd cover), and Everdream

After Tarja left, I stopped listening to them. Nightwish lost what set them apart from other similar bands. With Tarja it was a real duel between opera and rock, now it's just another rock group. By the way, in continuation of the theme of Diana Ankudinova and Russian vocal experience. I suggest you make a few reactions to Pelageya. Pelageya is one of the most popular folk and not only singers in Russia. Pelageya, Elmira Kalimullina, Anri Gogniashvili and Maria Goya - "Under the willow" czcams.com/video/Q5C1MnUJVuQ/video.html or "Canção do Mar" by Pelageya and Elmira Kalimulina czcams.com/video/0evioUE_KGU/video.html
p.s. You don't have to do a reaction, just listen, you as a professional will have something to think about.

The opposite for me, discovered NW this year and and got hooked on Floor. Then I went back and tried Tarja's songs but couldn't handle the heavy opera or accent, though I can understand your attachment to her. Amazing singing voice. Anette, to me, seemed like a good pop cover voice. Cheers.

@@tkdfreaksq11 Please do not confuse voice capabilities and performance technique. Tarja is an opera singer, Floor is a rock singer. This changes the perception of the group as a whole.

@@vasiasemechkin9475 I still politely disagree with your assesment of the genre of music Tuomas writes. It is not a rock band whomever the singer is. Even with Anette's more contemporary style of singing, the MUSIC is still symphonic metal.....and its composition is much different than rock...regardless of the singer....there are many symphonic metal bands in existence now utilize singers with both operatic and more contemporary singing styles....jmo

@@tkdfreaksq11 I totally agree, just the word "ROCK" is shorter :)) The point is that with Tarja it was opera vs heavy metal or something like that. Don't forget that Floor is not the only singer who auditioned for Tarja's place. There were not very successful auditions.
