  • My name is Josh. Subtitles:17 languages. This song rocked! The Floor/Marco harmonies were flawless. Emppu and Jukka thumped throughout. This band is amazing and Tuomas is a brilliant songwriter. I can't wait to experience more Nightwish live masterpieces. Thank you for watching my reactions.

If you want to hear a really heavy track with both singing again I would recommend Yours Is An Empty Hope live from Wembley. You hear another signibg ability from Floor in this track but I won't say what though
To hear some tracks where Marco takes the lead vocal I would say High Hopes from the End Of An Era show, The Islander from Tampere and While Your Lips Are Still Red from Wembley

Nightwish has many songs with vocal parts for both female and male vocalist. Nightwish, and we, are lucky to have Floor and Marko doing it together.
This was just one example of Marko's vocals. The Islander Tampere 2015 shows his clean vocals, his own composition, lyrics by Tuomas. Totally different from any other Nightwish songs, but people love it. Marko starts the song alone, rest of the band joins him later.
On Nightwish version of Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" Helsinki 2005 Marko on vocals is great, but so are the rest of the guys. Many PF fan say it's as good or even better than the original, matter of taste of couse.

Marko is a force of nature: as lead singer with TAROT ("Tides"), in diverse collaborations (NORTHERN KINGS, DELAIN,...) as a solo artist ("The Voice of my father") and in some NW songs ("High hopes", "The islander")... Like I mentioned on your last reaction of NW, check out NW's tribute to PINK FLOYD with their respectful and tasteful version of "High hopes" it's different from what you experienced with NW till now

They're taking down the crowd surfers in a safe way. They take them over the fence instead of risking them falling down and getting trampled by the crowd.
And it's Jukka on the drums.
At 13:50 you can see Emppus on stage amp. It's used for three things: Feedback, as in this song, Beer stand for his Coronas, and somewhere to keep his bottomless bowl of pics to throw out in the crowd.

The urban dictionary definitions of 'romanticide': "The art of loving someone that inadvertently causes ones own demise. The victim is completely aware of the outcome, but cannot bring one self to forget about the person they have fallen in love with" or "When you love a being so completely with mind, body, and soul, and they disease your every thought, suffocating you, and you eventually find yourself drowning in the black abyss of rejection/ignorance and/or attention." And, vocally, Marko and Floor were made for each other. Before joining Nightwish Marko had damage done to his vocal chords during the removal of a polyp. He lost his falsetto and other parts of his vocal range and had to work hard to be able to sing again.

Wonderful reaction as it has been the earlier two times :) I like your deep analysis and your way of describing is clear and understandable. I'm enjoying these reactions very much.
I think I hear an interest in hearing more of Marko, he is an excellent singer as well and can match Floor perfectly. They are truly a powerduo. For more Marko singing, how about checking out the islander next from Tampere 2015?
Or perhaps, because I think I saw that you liked Phantom of the opera, Nightwish has done a cover of The phantom of the opera with the first singer Tarja Tuurunen. Marko sings the part of the phantom, so it might be of interest to check that out :) It is quite an experience.
For more Floor on a more classical vocal, well Floor has sung phantom of the opera as well but not with Nightwish but in the show Beste Zangers, that is excellent as well. Every performance she did on that show was amazing though, but phantom was probably the most spectacular. She has also sung Puccinis O mio babbino caro some time ago, if you want to check that out.
As for more Nightwish, there are a loooot of good liveperformances. How about going for Storytime or ever dream both from wacken 2013? Or Yours is an empty hope, preferably the one from Wembley 2015.
Take care and stay safe Josh :) Glad to hear you are enjoying Nightwish

There are so many great songs to chose from, that I would love to hear your input on, so it’s very hard to choose!
I think I would have to go with “Storytime” live from Wacken 2013 :)
I believe this would be a great pick, because you previously said, that you are more into traditional rock than hardcore metal - and this song is a bit softer while still being full of power and energy.
It’s also deceptively challenging to sing live, and makes you wonder whether Floor ever breathes at all ;)

Before I add commentary on this song and my experience with it and Nightwish... Please allow me to ask you to look into both Tarja and Floor singing Puccini's " O Mio Babbino Caro", not to separate the 2 vocalists, but embrace them both! They are 2 different wonderful singers, bringing their own wondrous interpretation!
The first time I heard this song "Romanticide" many years ago was the original Tarja era cd version, LOVED it!.... Now... fast forward to THIS version! Got to that end note expecting Marco, But had to hit pause and back track a couple times to wrap my mind around Floor. Floor... Floored it! I fell in love with Nightwish 20 years ago, and credit to Floor for certain changes to songs to make them her own (GLS), though some are in my mind better in the Tarja version, both great no matter what!. I may as well Credit Annette as well, as her versions of "Slow Love Slow" and "Scaretale" especially , IMO, are better than Floor. I still love the original! Tarja is AWESOME! But this live version with Floor always has me thrilled for that ending, just as with Ghost Love Score.
Marco... All things considered, His vocals are amazing as is, but knowing his vocal chords got messed up, AND he sings THIS well anyway...oh wow!

I haven't seen the lyrics with the "OD" part. I works in the context, but the lyrics I have seen before is "Ode of lies [...]" (ode = poem). I don't claim to know the 'truth' but using an abbreviation just doesn't seem like Nightwish normal style of vocabulary, while "ode" definitely is.

    • @zehnra
      @zehnra Před 3 lety +5

It's "Od" in the original Once album CD booklet, which is likely a capitalization typo rather than a missing letter. Overdose fits the tone of the song better, and I've never heard Ode pronounced Oh-dee. And one final point: LyricFind, where most sites license their lyrics from, is notorious for having terrible lyric transcriptions for Nightwish. I've submitted numerous corrections over the years through various lyric sites that license their database. In many cases, it appears to be a literal audio transcription rather than sourced from any official material, as I've seen some hilariously incorrect lyrics.

    Nun Mit Googeltranslate
As a stage master and heavy metal fan, I now have to say something about crowd management. You get the impression Josh is worried about the state of the crowd.
Wacken is an open air event in northern Germany that has been held by very professional organizers for decades. In Germany there are many laws and regulations that regulate and limit the number of visitors to a meeting place. An important point here is, among other things, the control of the visitor pressure on the front rows in front of the barricades. At concerts of this kind, this is often regulated by breakwaters (front barricades) or lateral square openings. The latter is the case at this concert where the square is extraordinarily wide, after all, there are other such stage houses on the left and right. Now to the character of a heavy metal concert. It is quite common that so-called "crowdsurfing" is a popular sport at these events. The crowd takes great care of the surfers, especially in heavy metal, and rarely drops them. The surf direction is usually always the stage, and so a tour ends most in front of the stage at the barricades. Where at various other concerts the removal of a person is often perceived as annoying and in some cases the guests of the event are referred, a large number of instructed and trained folders are used here, which are only there to receive each person who arrives and to bring them back to the side of the visitor area.

He is a badass on drums and been with the band since debut album back in 1997. I, personly, miss his stage presence. Don't get me wrong. Kai Hahto is just as great of a drummer - in fact on certain parts he is even more technical - but still, they did their best works with Jukka.

And no, the song's meaning is simple: betrayal in romantic relationship and the end of the said relationship. Cheating perhaps that the singers persona finds out about and that pain, guilt and hate consumes you. It's the murder of the romance, "Romanticide"
But there's also a bit of "f you and your effin ef!!" attitude there as well, "You ain't gonna see me fail!" is straight up saying to the other that "even if i'm hurt and you hurt me, i'm not going to beg, i'm not going to crumble in front of you, i'm going to show you! you won't get that satisfaction!"
    etc.
    Straightforward.
