- Professional musician reacts to Nightwish Islander live Live At Tampere, first time hearing this song reacting to Maroc's stellar vocals and analysing the performance, coming at it form the point of view of a guitar player. What do you do when you've got 2 lead vocalists in the band??? Let them both sing! Seems to work out aright for these guys!

The two classic Marko tracks are "High Hopes" and "While your lips are still red"
Cheers, I'll make a note of those!
@@JbfMusicGuitar Actually the song "While your lips are still red" would be topical to the last Alip video since it too features an EBow in the hands of Troy (if you watch the live performance at Wembley)
@@MrGellert15 Oh yes. and this song is generally considered as a ballad of outstanding beauty.
'The Beast' is his custom Warwick bass with Framus guitar. I think the guitar neck uses Piezo pickups.
Yes, Marko is very comfortable interacting with the crowd. That second spoken part roughly translates to "If I play the chorus, you're gonna sing along, right?" - "Yeah!" - "Are you sure?" - "Yeah!" - "Ok, let's do it"
Lmao, of course it's called 'Th Beast' what other name could he have given it!?!?
Warwick make lovely basses. Interesting, it sounded really good for Piezos- I use them, on electro acoustics, for convenience, but I'm not the biggest fan of their sound. Cheers for the translation!
And of course it's the British multi instrumentalist, Troy Donockley, on low whistle. You'll also find him playing Uilleann pipes, bouzouki, acoustic guitar, various stringed instruments with E-bow, etc on other songs.
I had no idea who that was, thanks for that Clive, I see a small CZcams voyage on the horizon for me!
@@JbfMusicGuitar Since Marko left he is much more present as is singing backing as well.
@@JbfMusicGuitar For songs with high Troy content I'd suggest How's the Heart acoustic (Planet Rock), My Walden (Tampere), I Want My Tears Back (Buenos Aires), Last of the Wilds (Wacken), plus the lyric video for Harvest (where he takes lead vocals).
As a guitar tutor you should watch the acoustic version of How's the Heart with Floor and Troy, that is some really nice guitar playing from Troy and an awesome ending of a quiet and emotional song.
I concur!

Sounds intriguing, I'll pop that on my list, cheers!
Before Floor came along, Marko did most of the communication with the audience.
Very cool, not surprised going by this, the guy is a natural showman!
Marko Hietala (pron: HEE-ah-Tallah) is a classically trained guitarist, bassist, songwriter and talented vocalist both solo and in harmony. Here he is playing a custom Warwick double neck with that acoustic-sounding guitar below and standard bass on top. It's nicknamed, "The Beast".
Mandatory Marko is Nightwish's tribute to Pink Floyd with High Hopes, live End Of An Era 2005. A rendition so great, David Gilmour himself is a fan!
Cheers, I'd have probably have read that "Hi-ta-la" - good to know the proper pronunciation!
@@JbfMusicGuitar No problem! Marko is a huge rock star in his own right, I like to make sure he's getting proper respect by at least knowing his name.
Marko started his career as a lead singer in heavy metal band Tarot, so he's always been the male lead in Nightwish, not a backup singer.
And he's very used to being front and center.
His formal musical studies were on classical acoustic guitar, which possibly makes him to be even more in his element here. He basically plays the guitar part of the monster only in acoustic-like parts.
'Male lead' is much better way of putting it, cheers! It really shows, the guys is incredibly comfortable here, not just as a singer, but a frontman as well
Floor is one heck of a backing singer to have on the bench :)
I know right!
The quality of Marco's voice constantly amazes me. In his early days he had a Polyp on his Vocal chords and had to have an operation. Unfortunately, the Op went wrong and he was left with one of his vocal chords partially paralysed. This meant he basically had to learn to sing again and he lost his falsetto. Altogether an amazing man. He started singing and playing his Fathers acoustic guitar at the age of 11 or 12 and did 3 years at a music school studying acoustic guitar, singing and music theory. He has also won the Finnish version of the masked singer. Unfortunately, he developed problems and had to leave Nightwish. He has consulted doctors and sorted out his problems. He has spoken about this in a CZcams interview with Chaoszine. czcams.com/video/ZKClkDme728/video.html
Oh wow, would never have guessed! I suppose he has such a full rich voice that using falsetto would be a bit of waste anyway?
Great that he won that, well deserved I'd imagine! That's a shame, but it's great that he's getting himself back on track
@@JbfMusicGuitar He can go crazy high again thanks to his efforts! Maybe not falsetto, but has voice has such gorgeous character. If you want to hear his higher non-metal register check out the cover of 'I see fire' with the Powerless Trio! Or check out the Nightwish cover of 'The phantom of the Opera' where he almost sings as high as the operatic soprano Tarja (Nightwish's original singer).
Wow!!! Thank you! Marco the best😙😙
You're welcome 😊
Thanks
Welcome my dude!
If you want more if Marco, listen to Kiss while your lips are still red, live at Wembley-some interesting guitar work as well by Troy
I concur
Sounds good, cheers for that!
marco studied (classical) guitar for at least 6 years, then switched to bass guitar🤟🏻🤟🏻🎶🎶
It shows! The guy can play!
Marco started on guitar, picked up bass later, so also plays bass a bit like a guitar with the finger action...Floor did sing undér him, but Marco has power as a singer ...see Phantom of the Opera and High Hopes as examples
Also see him in Tarot the band he was main vocalist. I suggest the song Tides
Tides? Nice one, will give it a listen
Floor with Troy acoustic…..great… hows your heart…
Another song to see Floor's respectful backing of Marco is Kiss While Your Lips are Still Red.
Nice one, will add that to my 'stuff to check out' list
Nice sound and great performance..👏👏🔥🔥👍👍
Next..maybe you will also be intersted soon to check 'Burgerkill' with their original song (Killchestra - An Elegy) or 'VOB ' with their original instrument & song ( Sundanese instrumental)& (God allow me plesae to play music)
Cheers, I'll make a note of that one- great name for a band!
I hope you can find the time to react to this TOP LINEUP OF MANY MUSICAL INTRUMENTS/SINGERS: The Source is the 9th studio album from *AYREON* , a progressive metal/rock opera project by Dutch musician Arjen (Ahr-Yun) Anthony Lucassen, released on April 28, 2017. *_”The Day That The World Breaks Down”_* is a song that features all 11 (quite well known) main guest singers (you’ll be surprised) and is taken from that album. Arjen himself is telling (in subtitles) who the singers are and which instruments are used and by which standards.
Btw. This creative original clip is 13 min. long and I think you won’t regret it !!
Official (Arjen’s) clip: czcams.com/video/oFuMKdrzPqU/video.html
Btw: According to Arjen himself this album is more guitar orientated than his previous ones.
Ayreon have been on my list for ages, hoping to finally check them out and get a video up by the end of the year!
I concur

Recommendation: live practice recording of Wintersun’s Time album at Sonic Pump studios!! Songs: Time, sons of winter and stars, and Land of snow and sorrow!! Phenomenal band, just top tier in every respect, particularly the guitar playing!
Wintersun have some insane guitar chops!
Great reaction and breakdown
I see that you are a stive vai fan
Have you seen Tina S do a cover of for the love of God?
If you haven't you really need to see it
It's amazing
I've seen a few of her videos before!
Grandgrandpa 72 here. Don't go over Marco - Floor! You only in the Back!?
Cheers Tony! SRV or Texas shuffles tend to use the position between middle and neck, Jimmy Page used some interesting and unexpected pickup combos (can't think which off the top of my head), bridge and middle is on a fair amount of funk tracks. Most 'rock' stuff tends to just be on the bridge. I'll try to keep this on in mind and see if any other songs pop in to my head!
And nothing else matters. 1 2 3. 1 2 3. Ascend and decent and. Nothing else matters... 😆 very similar.
Interesting comparison!
For other amazing guitar performance, check out another Finnish metal band Wintersun and e g. "Sons of winter and stars" studio version 🤘🙂👍
I know a wee bit of Wintersun... those dudes can play!
I can hear that he has a piezo bridge pickup. You don't get that sound from a magnetic. That is clearly a Swiss Army Guitar.
I'll need to check out the piezo- I normally don't like their sound, but this sounded amazing
Great video. The noise gate on your mic seems a bit touchy, either that or you use a button to speak I couldn't tell.
Cheers mate! Aye I use my monitors for these and try to mute out the music from the mic so it doesn't do that weird phasing thing. Downside is the noise gate is harder to set just right, unless I just shout all the time! Don't want to deal with a headphone wire getting in the way, so far have rebelled against the wireless ones (don't like the planned obsolescence of them), but will probably cave in at some point!
The song was originally written for Marko to sing lead and Anette for the backings. Similarly went "While your lips are still red." Floor who replaced Anette picks that part. But she would add some whipping up in it that challenged Marko.
Good to know, cheers for that!
Next new reaction Alip ba ta " far from home"
Baritone Guitar
Though it might be, cheers for clearing that up! Such a full sounding tone
