Thanks for having me on this, Tim. It was a big honor to me, as usual. I know this is gonna sound "pathetically cliché" but the one who was really having a lesson in that room was me, honestly. It feels like that every single time I see you play the guitar and also when I have the chance to listen to you speaking about your life-career. So inspiring! (:
Hope y'all check the entire video out. It was a great time!
Best,
Mateus Asato
Mateus Asato it was very helpful lesson thanks guys !!
Very Humble of you, You play beautifully.
Mateus Asato you're amazing Mateus - perfect combination of chops, melody and fluidity! Cheers
Mateus, you are one of my most favorite guitarist discoveries of the last year. Just such an incredible combination of "shred" combined with a truly beautiful melodic soul.
I absolutely love the fact that Tim Pierce, a complete LEGEND appears to have taken a huge interest in your career and playing. The segment you did with Tim and the amazing Pete Thorn was fantastic, with my only criticism being that it was not 6 hours long. :)
Mateus, Pete is working on a new solo album - it seems like a natural fit to me if you were somehow able to contribute to that.
continued success Mateus!
Mateus: What a beautiful, melodic piece, on the intro to this video. I'm floored !
Great lesson guys- I'm stealing those pentatonic licks!!!! :)
Agree... Awesome stuff!! Stealing them here too :)
Pete Thorn
Stolen.... all of them! Thanks Mateus, Tim and Pete! Been playing 20+ years and I still learn every time I see any one of the three of you! Lovin' it!
Pete Thorn wow I was thinking exactly the same lol
haha for sure
Love this conversation! So much lesson contents in less than 10 minutes! Both Great teachers!
Mateus makes me simultaneously want to practice guitar 20 hours a day and give it up entirely. Great playing, mate, and thanks for letting us all into your world.
I know, right?
Ha, yes.
I feel your pain
His improvisations are better than most studio solos of other guitarists ...
Let me tell you about this thing called jam bands Ricardo...
@@SouthMeckStunna might want to lookup the meaning of the word "most", but sure.
Totally Agree!
And honestly all pop songs.
Improvisation doesn’t just come from thin air dude... it’s years of playing and practicing and pulling from the bag of tricks.
Apart from the masterclass from Mateus (as usual), am I the only one impressed by Tim effortlessly mimicking the licks instantly? What an awesome example of professionalism and consistency this man is!
Tim is something else. Many people know him but I wonder how many of them KNOW just how GOOD he actually is.
that first improv was pure gold. It actually touched my heart.
Next time someone says pentatonics suck I will direct them to this video, he makes something seemingly simple sound so beautiful.
CJSchecter96 those who say its sucks they just a scale players but if u are music player simple pentatonic is magical
boy007 w pentatonics mixed with major scale is all you will ever need.
Pentatonics just get a bad rap from elistist players because of their seeming ease of play on the guitar. But pentatonics are used very widely, even in complex genres like jazz. When you take away the technical difficulty of playing something and just look at musical output, pentatonics work so well musically.
Mateus's tone is stunning
I'm not telling this to brag, but I have been searching how to get that kind of sound for 6 months. Yesterday I figured it out how to get this out of my Two-Rock studio pro 35. The simplicity caught me off guard. Turn an amp up and let the tubes work until you're getting that power sag. Then turn the guitar's volume down to clean it up a bit. And have a great reverb set up. I was in sound heaven yesterday. Sadly, I can't play like him.
@@colaboytje something Mayer always said. Play strat with volume and tone on 10 if you want a 1950s hank Marvin sound. But if you want a great feeling tone roll them down to like 8 or 9
@@joshmuz9018 According to me, Mayer said that as PR for the silver sky. He said that 'normal' strats sound to sharp, so he turned the tone down a bit. But according to him the SS doesn't have that so you can leave the tone at 10. But reviews say the SS is brighter than a 'normal' strat.
I prefer to play with tone wide open
@@ILoveTeles It looks like he is plugged into that tiny Otis amp on top of /13
He sounds like he has come from some kind of worship music, always sounds so euphoric
Ashley Mann based on the videos he posts on his personal channel, he does have a religious background.
Yep, se has. Used to play a lot in a church here in the city! Super cool dude.
He did.
He's a christian
Because he started playing guitar in church ⛪️
Awesome lesson. I think it's safe to say that Mateus is one of the best guitarists in the world at this point.
Thanks, Mr. Calvin Klein
Yes great! , but I reckon just behind Tina S.
Mateus has been shredding John Petrucci licks ever since he was 12. It's amazing how he became a really melodic and musical player and not just your typical metal shredder considering his path
His playing has an unbelievable amount of flavor
He was already good in 1885
Simply the best tone Ive ever heard of my entire life
Tim Pierce is a little bit of all of us when it comes to watching Mateus play. Then you remember it's Tim Pierce and he's a legend. It's cool to see how quickly he picked up that lick even if Mateus' speed was godly.
He’s the most melodic player I’ve heard since Eric Johnson. He’s such a unique blend!
Man.....if Mateus had an album of songs, none of them would be filler, and if they were , we wouldn't notice! This guy's riffs are so gorgeous, because they are all embellished (but not overly done) in some way and incredibly melodic. And melody is the language of the soul. It communicates to the heart what words cannot. It is melody that commands people to say, "I want to listen to it again". Technical proficiency and speed can impress upon the intellectual mind, but the gift of melody impresses upon the heart itself. I don't think that can be stated enough. And we know this truth as self evident. That's why we can be moved to tears with music. Mateus is greater than even he knows. May he forever be grounded in the Source behind the gospel tradition he comes from. He is profoundly blessed.
I agree. Theres a lot good guitarist out there but his choices of notes is what sets him apart. His phrasing feels like it was written with time
My two favourites guitar players. Always a pleasure!
You took exatly my words.
So much generosity on display - both from Tim and Mateus and also the comments. This is what the web should be like - inspiring people. Thanks - great lesson.
Fantastic! More please, if possible. What I love about Tim is that, even though he is one of the best players I know of, he is never too big to learn and explore something with every player he comes in contact with. He's loves learning, and passing along.
Great video Tim. Killer playing all-round... thank you
The way he connects phrases over chord changes sounds so beautiful but didn’t realise it was that simple. Good guitarist seem to make hard things looks easy but can make easy/simple things sound so complex
This is one of the most inspiring videos for me so far this year, thank you Tim and Mateus, you both are so inspiring!!
This is so inspiring. Thanks for the great music, Tim and Mateus.
AndreNieri You are a beast of a player also!
My two favourites guitar players together! Thank you for this!
I know Mateus for so long, since he was a kid, back in 2009, 2010, don't remember. He ALWAYS choose the perfect note, the perfect lick. I don't like to call anyone genius, but what this guy does is OUTSTANDING. And it's great to see that Tim is still learning and improving his playing with such a young man. Even though he is PALMEIRENSE! hahaha... Mateus, você é o cara!!!
I love how much music, and different styles of music, is inside this guy's head!!! He's my favorite right now
This intro solo is the most beautiful and emotional solo I've heard in my entire life. The solo got me questioned myself, "can humans' soul be able to listen to music when we leave this world for heavenly abode"? If it does, i'm listening to this ♡♡♡
Mateus, your feel and technique and the way you tell a story through your playing is amazing. Your music makes me feel things that nothing else can induce
The edge of break up tone on with the stray is so smooth. He usually plays hum buckers but the sound is so clear. Amazing stuff
I feel so satisfied to know he's actually inspired by Derek Trucks
That jam at the start oh my god ❤️
As a Brazilian, I'm so proud of you bro. U r not just a guitar player anymore, u r a phenomenal musician among the greatest in the world and considering the natural evolution that time brings, I just can't imagine how far you can get in a few decades. Hope someday, talented people like you will have the opportunity to have such a great career inside our lovely Brazil. Gustavo Gerra for example is also a PHENOMENAL guitar player, but his talent is unexplored here in Brazil.
Mateus' playing makes me teary-eyed. So beautiful.
Its not the speed that impresses me its his feel and touch that's so awesome
Both are masters and so humble. Love these two greats🙏🙏
this guy is a legend, have been following him for quite some time now!
2 of the most melodic, toneful and tasteful players anywhere. lovely and musical
Wow, just incredible playing. Thanks for posting this.
First time hearing Mateus talking WOWWOWO I'm so excited rn. Thanks for showing up on my feed CZcams!!!! ::):):)
HE is the guitar lesson. I'm glad we have legendary guitarists like Mateus here in Brazil.
There's just magic in his fingers -- no lie! Just WOW! And to have TIM PIERCE & Mateus in 1 room - mind blowing!!
who else saw mateus reaching for a whammy when there is none? 😂 3:19
Mateus that was the sweetest playing i have ever heard! Such Passion & Beauty in your playing.! Thank- You, please come to Cincinnati & Play
That soloing is absolutely AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL!
To make an guitar sound like that is truly a gift!!! Amazing!!!!
BOTH of you guys are SOOOO inspiring!!
Blessed to have stumbled on this video, you never know when or where wisdom arises. Awesome guys.
Good on him for keeping up and clicking with mateus so much. Talent.
I love both these guys... those pentatonic licks from Mateus are just spectacular
How wonderful to have the skills and knowledge to be able to feel something and be able to express it so sweetly.
The one word that hearing and watching Mateus' play that comes to me is joy
What a wonderful conversation! Thank you so much for sharing
This is one of the most inspiring guitar demonstrations EVER! Mateus is one of the few guitarists who can tell stories with his playing. Not only chops, but a lot of feeling and taste combined with incredible musicality. Random fact: the first "one string Rock solo" was Jeff Beck's on "Shapes of Things" with the Yardbirds. Not surprising that Mateus wrote "Inspired by Jeff Beck"... 👌😊
says 10 minutes but it's only 9:49. we want those last 11 seconds !
Must be due to the CZcams compression.
prolly spent on tuning kappa
Its a clickbait obviously🤣😂😆
@MarkThisWayAfter Like there's any other way ha ha
watching his eyes while he solos is incredible. It's like he goes into another world
The lines and phrasing are so refreshing. Wow
SO INSPIRING yet again! MY FAV CZcams channel Tim! Many thanks from Ontario, Canada 👌
Wow, major chills from the beginning. The rest was awesome as well. Had never heard of you, Mr. Asato, but you're a wonderful player and am going to go hunting for your music asap. THANK YOU, Tim, for another great lesson. I always look forward to them.
This master gives me goosebumps every time I hear him play.
beautiful playing! very interesting playing style. tim, thanks for sharing Mateus with us.
Simply outstanding. You can feel his every emotion dripping like honey from his fingers. Incredible!!!!!
Tim you seem like the most humble guy ever
So cool. Two great players so happy to be in each others company for different reasons, and the love of guitar!
So amazing. Thank you guys.
That's great. Tim is such a genious, love his videos. Also, seeing Mateus on that level is also great.
Love the single string stuff and triads, and the penta licks! Inspiring playing!
Tim it's so fun to watch you learning from Mateus, I'd love to be a fly on the wall.
Always great getting insight from two awesome guitarists. Thank you both for sharing :)
A fabulous guest! He has a fresh sound and that's a tough thing to accomplish on guitar.
I watch this video just to listen to you guys playing. I really love it
Man that is some beautiful guitar playing. Thanks Tim!
Wow Man, to be so young and to have your own sound and play with so much soul, thanks Mateus!
transcribing his opening solo. Even after like 20 seconds there was enough to steal for life
HE IS SO GOOD OMG. He plays so soft and sweet at the beginning holy shit
I love the sound of Mateus' strat😍. Good tone and nice playing😃
Thank you for sharing! Such tasteful playing and insightful discussion 🙂
He is the one of my favourite guitar player..
Incredible hands, and soul fully
It's the first time I've heard him talk... love to hear more....just learned that he also went to "MI / GIT" which I also graduated from back in '82-83 in the class of Frank Gambale { another monster player } This kids just getting going too !!!
orgulho do brasil
Haa vai se ferrar com isso cara.. coisa chata.
@@michelsousaa I don't understand spanish. What are you talking about?
Great talent made in Brazil. I'm proud of have the same nationality as you, man.
The lesson I got most out of this awesome get-together between Tim and Mateus is how what real passion and talent look like. These two have an obvious and absolute massive love for the guitar. Their mutual respect for each other is the embodiment of what it means to be social human beings, sharing common interests and ideas. I got so damned pumped up and inspired that I picked up my favorite Alvarez acoustic guitar and jammed right along with them, playing lead lines, bass lines, double stops, melodic runs vertically and horizontally, bends, octaves, rhythmic chord leads, 4ths, 6ths and 10ths etc., like I've never played before... and never missed a lick (pun intended). To me, that's the definition of magic. I could have actually jammed with them in the same room and made a flawless contribution and would not have felt embarrassed or intimidated as much as I always feared I would. .... and, believe me, that's magic. I will be using this little 10 minute video for inspiration for a long time to come. Thank you Tim and Mateus for posting and sharing...
P.S. Who are the 40 dipshits that gave this video a thumbs down? How could that even be possible?
I love getting a nice dose of inspiration
Another great video Tim and a great guest!
What an amazing guitarist. Lots of people get stuck on speed and I thought that was what this was going to be but once he slipped it down and put fell into it it was just beautiful
great! do more of this i like watching tim take a lesson. watching tge master learn from an other one on film. love it!
Tim and Mateus in the same room?! Click. Like. Subscribe! Your humble approach to the guitar is so refreshing, Tim! And Mateus is the genuine article!! Thank you for this!!
2 of my current fav players so inspiring
The closing piece reminds me of something Los Lonely Boys would play. Mateus is incredible
Duet of the century. Please form a superband.
Went to MI with this guy. Was a phenomenal player then and is flying like a rocket now.
Mateus is such an incredible player .. such feeling.
Brilliant! Thank you both.
Thank you Tim for sharing this video!
I'm a big fan of mateus . Really like ur tone your selection of harmony note . Really beautiful, full of warmth emotions...keep on playing and share it to world's those beautiful sounds of yours..full thumbs up
By far my favorite player of this age. So melodic and beautiful and sometimes chaotic haha. Love it!!! God bless you obrigato hermano
The feel both of these guys have... man.
This is SWEET! Keep it coming
Simply beautiful. A moment out of time.
Just beautiful. Thank you.
Best guitarist ever, I'm obsessed, did he say this was in key of D
That intro! 🙌
Beautiful!!! I love that clean chimey Strat tone!!!! I bought a Fender Guitar last year through the mail that I thought was silver, called "Blizzard Pearl"but ended up being pink. I had to send it back. Homey just couldn't play that.
