2008 Volvo xc70 Steering Wheel Locked No Ignition Fix
In this video we are going to show you how to possible fix the issue where the steering wheel is locked and the car doesn't start on a 2008 Volvo xc70. In most cases this has to do with the steering lock module where the module itself fails. The solution is to disconnect the module and lubricate with WD-40 then tap with a hammer to get the module to work. Once lubricated reconnect the module then press the start button the the car. The module motor should trigger thus fixing the problem.

Thank you sir. You saved the day. I did not pull the part off because I don’t have screws, instead there are round studs. So i sprayed lubricant up into the part while still attached. Thank you.

The dealership was going to charge me $860 + tax to replace the part and I was going to have to wait 2 weeks for an appointment. Add $100 for towing and I was looking at at least $1000 and weeks without my car. A disaster for an Uber driver. Thanks to your video I fixed it myself for free in ten minutes. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I didn't even remove the mechanism. I just noted the position of the locking pin from the video, doused the area where pin should be and gently tapped with a hammer.

Used this video to sort out my v50. Worked like a charm, I didn't refit the lock pin in the black plastic part as this is what was causing the fault. Works just fine without it, but I suspect it means the steering lock could be forced without it...

Happened to me yesterday morning in the rain. Parked at a gas station near my home in a rural part of NC. when I got the message Steering wheel locked (which it wasn't, it's in the down position). Nothing worked like disconnecting the battery and so on. Car was towed to my house after waiting 4 hours for the tow truck. Still have the error message and it will not turn over or start. I don't have the tools to make a notch to remove the mechanism and will try just spraying it without taking it out. I know from this video that it's correctable and thank you so much.

Guys. If someone having problem with the mechanism, if still dont come out with tapping. Just try to open the body cover with drilling where its bended. Inside you have electronic board and electro motor. Check first the motor with any power supply that have 12v. That is the first problem.
Then, on the board you have micro switch, check that also. Mine was stuck, and i cleaned the micro switch with cleaner spray for electronics.
    Good luck!

I keep a pair of needle-nose pliers, hammer, and WD-40 in my LR2. This lock jams up all the time in the cooler temperatures. Basically need the pliers to pull the lock hard from being seized up. Hammer helps too thought I try to use it as little as possible given the potential impact on the electronics. I wrapped mine in bubble wrap and left it in the dash for easier access. Seems like my old friend that keeps coming back to haunt me in the cooler weather.
