    I'm using white paint to taper and clean up the black brush strokes.Changing the thickness in different areas, this allows me to create more depth and movement. Thanks for watching...MIX

    The final picture looks different from the video because its a still photo from a camera and the other is from a video camcorder. I have recently invested in some premo video equipment so there will be some better quality videos in the near future, keep watching!

    I use medium all the time, its the first thing I put on a brush before picking up paint! The transparency that the medium creates gives you a whole new set of colors to work with! Enjoy!

  • @MichaelLangArt
    @MichaelLangArt  Před 11 lety +2

    Because the medium creates a transparent wash, when you apply these in layers the color variation is amazing!

  • @MichaelLangArt
    @MichaelLangArt  Před 10 lety +3

    Yes, I'm using titanium white to animate the dark lines, making them thinner and thicker, cutting ends to angle them and box them, you can really add to movement and even perspective by doing this. Enjoy!

    There's many times they don't work out to what I expected and I become frustrated! Then I realize the problem is I haven't finished it yet. Good luck and enjoy!

    My hope is to inspire! I have a simple theory that seems to work for me.Before forming an opinion on your work get 10 other opinions, you may be surprised. If your not pleased with your painting...your just not finished with it! I knew a smart man who said "if you know you can do it or you know you can't.....your right! You sound very determined so I know you can.good luck...MIX

    I sketch with grey chalk, paint it in and then erase the chalk. I also trim the lines and give them shape with white paint which also takes care of alot of the lines.

    ok...i have watched this video going on around 8 or 9 times now. i continue to draw inspiration and courage from it. i now have my sketch down on canvas and have painted the lines black. it is now ready to be butchered by an unskilled hand and eye...but you know something...it will be far better than a blank canvas. and no matter how awful it turns out, i will keep creating them until i break through that learning curve. thank you soooo much for these videos.

    Michael, I thoroughly enjoy watching you paint. Towards the end I thought you might get sucked into what I would consider an error in my own abstract work... and you did! : ) By painting the white high-light on the right face it's basically the "two intervals-the same" taboo. It also adds another major focal point when I feel this painting would be better if one face were kept the subject and the other more as background. Rerun the video and see for yourself what happens. Of course you may see it differently and this is just my humble opinion. -MikeL

    • @delaneywalsh
      @delaneywalsh Před 9 lety

      I agree. I was watching and then when he broke out the white highlighting I was like, "Michael... what are you doing? Michael... STOP! STOP!!!" But I've been guilty of this as I'm sure everyone has that has ever painted, it's still a nice piece.
