I'm using white paint to taper and clean up the black brush strokes.Changing the thickness in different areas, this allows me to create more depth and movement. Thanks for watching...MIX
The final picture looks different from the video because its a still photo from a camera and the other is from a video camcorder. I have recently invested in some premo video equipment so there will be some better quality videos in the near future, keep watching!
I use medium all the time, its the first thing I put on a brush before picking up paint! The transparency that the medium creates gives you a whole new set of colors to work with! Enjoy!
Because the medium creates a transparent wash, when you apply these in layers the color variation is amazing!
Yes, I'm using titanium white to animate the dark lines, making them thinner and thicker, cutting ends to angle them and box them, you can really add to movement and even perspective by doing this. Enjoy!
There's many times they don't work out to what I expected and I become frustrated! Then I realize the problem is I haven't finished it yet. Good luck and enjoy!
for paintings and characters that are so bold and expressive, the process is just so light and graceful. kudos to you, the passion really shows in the art.
You paint in so many different styles, and they all inspired. WONDERFUL!
You bring out life from your paintings. I am so impressed by your work. thank you for sharing.
He has mastered blending and shading, if I were a millionaire I would want to buy all his work
My hope is to inspire! I have a simple theory that seems to work for me.Before forming an opinion on your work get 10 other opinions, you may be surprised. If your not pleased with your painting...your just not finished with it! I knew a smart man who said "if you know you can do it or you know you can't.....your right! You sound very determined so I know you can.good luck...MIX
My go to for this painting was Liquitex matte medium, works great for blending.Im glad your inspired.Lets put that rut behind you...MIX
I sketch with grey chalk, paint it in and then erase the chalk. I also trim the lines and give them shape with white paint which also takes care of alot of the lines.
So true because I learn a lot by watching you simply go through the process and it's a how to without having to be told everything. It simply means we pay closer attention to while you work.
This is Acrylics, I do however love the glazing you get when doing this with oils.
I love your paintings...fresh and beautiful colors, expanding from yours canvases & looks very easy as you painting, but very hard if I am painting :ha ha ha but I love it and will still try to do it better and never will quit ....You are not just great artist, but wonderful person too..you want to help people like me and Im proud to have a chance to send u few words .You are my inspiration & I love you Michael very much for being great friend to all of us who are fascinated with your art xxx
ok...i have watched this video going on around 8 or 9 times now. i continue to draw inspiration and courage from it. i now have my sketch down on canvas and have painted the lines black. it is now ready to be butchered by an unskilled hand and eye...but you know something...it will be far better than a blank canvas. and no matter how awful it turns out, i will keep creating them until i break through that learning curve. thank you soooo much for these videos.
Artistic mind and creations are like ones finger prints always unique. You are extraordinarily talented and I watch your videos frequently to follow the techniques but not to copy your creations as I respect you.I am an infant to this field. Wish you all the Best!
Mr. Lang, ,I love your tutorials, you must be such nice and patient man, with all our questions, Thankyou again....We'll keep whatching .....
I watch you paint as though Im watching a tv show. I love the way you paint.
Thank you so very much for NOT having annoying loud music like other artist seam to think they much have for a successful video - you're a pleasure to watch and music does not distract.
Amazing.... This portrait talks to my soul !!!
Your probably right but I couldn't find that category in my listing choices! I will say however that over the years I have learned a few things by watching someone else do it.Thanks for watching...MIX
This is Yellow Ochre, use it sparingly, very potent! Its a great base for any painting.Enjoy!
Yes, I use liquitex mediums, I really like them and they wont break down the paint like water!
just love art, watching michael at work is a meditation on its own.
This is why I love, LOve, LOVE acrylics!
Wow that's beautiful I don't know whether you would have laughed or punched me in the snoot if you had heard my self commentary as I watched you paint, no, yes, ahh, oh, wow no, left right no yes incredible. It was like I was a fan in a boxing arena. I've never had that reaction to just watching someone paint. So I wouldn't say all this if I didn't think it was incredibly wonderful and a pleasure to watch her or them come alive. Thanks Lee
Brilliant! You have no idea how much you inspire me.
OK, OK...I'm an artist, but after watching this, I call you Master!
Oh, Mr. Lang, this is quite fantastic again !! I`ve learnd a lot about washes and shading and can`t wait, to try it myself. I would like to go to your school, Michael. Thank you so much for all your demos.
If I was rich Id pay millions for your paintings,I love them, your amazing,I don't know they just have class and style and they get me all emotional,I want one so bad,Im going to keep practicin, you inspire me to keep on going,Thanks!
Your use of color is wonderful. Very inspiring.
Ahhh - so you mix the glaze into the paint that is already on the canvas! That's going to help me a lot!
Hi, Im using Liquitex gloss and matte for the acrylics!
I'm new to painting, and I just don't understand how he gets so clean colours. Looks spraypainted! Gorgeous work! I'm amazed.
Their lips look like they're airbrushed on... Great work! I really enjoyed watching this and all your other videos.
Thanks for sharing.
Correct! The more medium, the lighter and more transparent the color.
I love your work. I paint as well and I use bold black lines bur watching you I have learned a few tricks especially with lips and eyes. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to your next video. You need to do a seminar on your technique. It's really special.
You make it look so easy.. I wish I had half the talent you have.
Its a long time since I got this excited about an artists work, cant wait to try some of your techniques , thank u so much for sharing ur wonderful talent with me
I love "all" his works, they are so fantastic.
I love the way you paint and the colors that you use you are very good at painting love this
Beautiful Work!!! Love your techniques. Thanks so much for sharing.
excelente artista, recién me inicio en la pintura y busco en CZcams es el mejor que he visto felicitaciones, mil gracias.
I love this guide. It's so flawless.
thanks! This is done in acrylics.
This is acrylic paint!
I wish you had a commentary on what you are doing. That would be most helpful. Outstanding blending which is what I am trying to learn.
This is such a beautiful painting!
omg! what a wonderful work! and seeing u using ur both hands really amazed me! congratssssss! and thank you for sharing ur art and ur technique!
It's amazing to watch. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with us.
There is an exact copy of this somewhere else someone else has painted but not nearly as vivid or perfect as this. But wonder whose is the original. Whatever, i prefer yours Mix!!!!! X
I'm glad you like! I can assure you that this is the original. I'm the creator of the Urban Expression style which has steadily evolved over the years. I am kind of flattered that people like them enough to copy them.
GREAT !! In a word... Love the Colors... And the Funky Bass Line!!
I love watching that 2 hand technique! If I was to use my left hand to draw with, i'd completely destroy my work! I am not ambidextrous at all, but I do so enjoy watching others do it!
You use your right and left hands with equal facility, most unusual.
Wow fantastic work!!!......thanks for sharing & inspiration...i hope to make that some kind of art someday or these days...I do hope to buy some of your work too so your shares may not be wasted for just watching by us....hehehe....not just to pay you for sharing it but to bring home that inspiration too
Mesmerising. Thankyou for sharing your work.
I'm hooked. I seriously love your work.
He makes it look so easy... fascinating...
Michael, I am such a fan of yours. I could watch your videos everyday all day long! I have tried your blending techniques but seem to get more steaks than the soft blending look that you achieve. I am using the glazing medium, I dress my brushes with it, Am I possibly using too much? I don't know. You are truly amazing! hanks for sharing you talents. :)
I absolutely love your work.
mike this is truly amazing art.
Hope you don't get sick of me saying this.. but you are AMAZING!
great painting mr lang.....very awesome....thnx for sharing....it really helps to watch.....i wish i could blend that well
Very niiice!!!!! I love the colors and the expression, lines and slight cubistic look.
Amazing work. I really appreciate your art.
Love your paintings and techniques
Michael, I thoroughly enjoy watching you paint. Towards the end I thought you might get sucked into what I would consider an error in my own abstract work... and you did! : ) By painting the white high-light on the right face it's basically the "two intervals-the same" taboo. It also adds another major focal point when I feel this painting would be better if one face were kept the subject and the other more as background. Rerun the video and see for yourself what happens. Of course you may see it differently and this is just my humble opinion. -MikeL
I agree. I was watching and then when he broke out the white highlighting I was like, "Michael... what are you doing? Michael... STOP! STOP!!!" But I've been guilty of this as I'm sure everyone has that has ever painted, it's still a nice piece.
Rules ao be broken when it comes to creativity, if everyone followed the same rules there would be no originality!
MMM LLL I can't help but laugh at someone critiquing another artist on a technique that other artist created himself. :P
Hence the phrase, 'artistic license'. That being said, my 2 cents, the smaller face with the open eye is definitely the focus of the painting.
Wonderful. Thanks for sharing your skills.
Result when using medium Is amazona!
Michael, I notice something in this painting and Edge of Dreams. Where you left off was quite different to the way it ended up. With this there was an addition of greens, and almost a aged look. I'm wondering how you did this, and moreso will you show a vid of taking a painting to completion ready for varnishing? Love ur work, very inspiring, helps me get motivated for my own paintings.
Is your left hand brush dry or does it have medium on it.?
I got the same question
Amazingggg love all the colors!!!
Wao, how well you paint, the combinations that you do are spectacular, he knows that I made one of yours but with crayons because I don't have acrylic paints and here in Venezuela the few that are obtained are very expensive and it did not go so bad, it was difficult to do Mixes with crayons, but it didn't look too bad.
You really are the maximum.
I wish I could send it to you for your approval and advice.
Este hombre pinta increiblemente bien. Quiero aprender esa tecnica
I admire your work with your 2 hands with the same dexterity! highly complementary ..!. pace Your admirable is very important (albeit the video is accelerated ..) but you have a secret! I seek and often abdicates and is admiring and envious:)))
Some day I'll learn to do that. I tried with cheap 59. Michaels acrylics, I was so frustrated. Now I know I need to use mediums that and some practice.
Absolutely beautiful work. Thank you for sharing this. I did learn from it.
I love to watch you work. You are amazing.
I hate realistic portraits abstract art the best Thanks for All...💕😊Hi from Baku Azerbaijan!!!:)(:
Outstanding Michael, no other words.

That was amazing to watch!
Hi Michael,
You are dipping your brush into matte acrylic medium then into acrylic paint right? Thanks so much for sharing and teaching. Amazing.
After you do the Black Outlining you paint a layer with no color of something, what is it and why? Or is it just white to soften the outlining? Thanks for the inspirational videos! Love all your work and technique...
Thanks so much for commenting back so soon it was a wonderful surprise. Which do you prefer acrylic or oil?
Amazed at your control with blending. What type of bristles do you prefer? Thanks for sharing.
Awesome. I am blown away
