Hey everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer. We're gonna be taking a look at some of the features of the Coghlan's Emergency Whistle. This is gonna be a very lightweight whistle that you can keep around with you. Awesome if you're gonna be in an environment where you are going to need to either scare off some animals or alert people around you. This is a highly visible whistle with this large barrel shake in the bright orange. We have our Morse code for SOS printed on it.
You have the hole where you blow into the whistle. And because of its shape, if you drop this into the water, this will float up. This does have a lanyard attached to it, so if you do wanna keep this around your neck, that's fine. It does have a breakaway strap, so if it gets caught up on something, you're not worried about it choking you. So apparently when you blow into this whistle, this is loud at 120 decibels.
So to really test it out, I'm gonna leave my microphone with my videographer. I'm going over there. (whistle blowing) It does depend on where you are, but in ideal conditions, you can hear that sound up to a mile away. That's because it has a rubber membrane on the inside, amplifying that sound. Rather than a shrill whistle, it definitely sounded a lot more like a duck or a bird call.
Definitely something worth considering adding to your emergency kit. A nice, inexpensive way to stay safe wherever you are. Scare off animals or predators, as well as as signal people that you may be adventuring with. You can find this and other products for your adventures here at etrailer. But this right here was a look at the Coghlan's Emergency Whistle.
My name's Evangeline and I hope you enjoyed the journey.

It’s loud but the membrane on mine deteriorated and it’s no longer functioning.

We've heard folks have used a piece of a latex surgical glove as a replacement with good results, you might want to give that a try. If you try it, please let us know how it works!

      @@etrailer Your awesome for responding.
It worked, I had to double it up.
Maybe a thicker Latex glove or thicker balloon material.
      Thx
