A survival whistle without a pea in it over 100 decibels would be smaller and more reliable. The horn was quite load but the membrane could get damaged. So yes, this wasn’t as reliable as a standard survival whistle. At the time I bought this it seemed good buy later failed.

I only saw the air horn that worked on an attatched can of air. Dan I will take another look!

The one I got worked well. This video was from quite awhile ago. I pulled it out a year or so later and the membrane was damaged.
