@Lord Farquaad You can not get a good TV at the size he's portraying for $1000, if you were to buy a tv that size, it would $1600-2000 and I'm not talking about inferior models that companies produce on Black Friday. So this would be the "cheaper" alternative if you want to game on a bigger screen

shouldve been either a regular projector of ultra short throw. With projectors, throw range and aspect ratio's are the first specs you should be looking for. contrast, lumens, db's, brightness etc are all important for picture quality but if it doesn't fit your room/screen, they don't matter

Just buy the "Billy" bookcase at Ikea and put it on top of that. You can buy a 10-20 meters hdmi cable, use that to hook it up so you can keep your consoles where they normally where. Then use a hdmi hub with multiple inputs and 2 outputs to hook it up to your tv and beamer at once.

@@VroskiGotem The only holes you need to drill are for the screen. And it's only impractical if you are an idiot. You don't need to put your consoles or whatever devices close to the projector. Ever heard of HDMI switches? You can keep your devices where they are but hook them up through a switch. The output HDMI calble can be connected to the projector.
But why would you buy just any kind of projector without even paying attention to throw distance and such. It's the most essential part. It also looks like OP doesn't know he can raise the feet which makes all the difference.
So yes the value of the video is that you need to use your head a little before you can draw any conclusions.

I've always been interested in projectors. After having back surgery a few years back, I got my first projector because I wasn't going to mess myself up trying to move a 55" tv around. My current setup is an Optoma GT1080 short throw projector (ceiling mounted and around 4' from the wall, light zoom to give me a 110" native 1080p/60hz image. I spent about an hour getting the colors and sharpness dialed in to a level that I was comfortable with. It shines on a manual roll up 110" 1.1 gain screen. Ambient daylight with mildly opaque curtains yields a pretty good image, but for my best results, nighttime with the lights out and it's stellar. I'm in an apartment so I'm only running a 2.1 surround sound, but my living room isn't that big, so...
I have my Xbox One hooked up to it and I got 6 pairs of 3D glasses, as Xbox One's can play 3D Blu-Rays and this projector can display a 3D image via DLP Link. Because I buy 3D Blu-Rays, and have a setup like this, movie nights are at my place. The room does get a little warmer because of the heat from the lamp, but in late fall, winter and early spring, that's actually a benefit. In summer, I just close the curtains and put the A/C on and I'm shiny. Gaming on it is wonderful. Lag is quite minimal, and there is not much visible pixelation.
Are projectors for everyone? No. They cost more to buy than a flat-panel, don't come with tuners, don't come with speakers, don't come with mounts, don't come with cables, source, or media. All it's designed to do is throw an image in a direction at a particular resolution. That's it. But speaking from experience, if you DO decide to jump into it, I can promise you it is well worth the investment (especially in gaming, where enemies at a distance are WAY more visible...)

Found mine for $450 on ebay. My first was an Acer H5360. Found it on ebay for $230. DLP Gives crisper image but has duller colors and rainbow effects. It's 720p but don't underestimate that. Looks amazing. Even at around 120" on a bare wall my fiend said it looked like Blu ray Haha! I recommend making your own screen, flat gray does wonders for your contrast and color. I replaced my TV with a projector like 3 years ago. Don't get a short throw, return that thing and get a regular cast. Your apartment is large enough and you can put it on a shelf on the wall behind the couch. Also, Epson has much cheaper replacement bulbs than the BENQ. I had to replace my first bulb after 2 years, mostly because of playing Fallout 4 tirelessly with it. I have a Epson Home Cinema 2150 that is around $700. It's 3LCD VS DPL, so the image doesn't get as washed out with ambient light. The trade off is the contrast ratio isn't as good as a DPL. 3D looks amazing, gaming is great, and I have a soundbar on a shelf behind my couch. Perfect setup. Everyone that comes over to watch a movie is blown away by how great the image quality is. I never go to the movie theater anymore. Also, get a proper screen. I used my wall for about a year and a screen frames the image so much better and brings your setup to the next level.

Tvs cant get much better and if they do youre spending thousands extra much sooner cause everybody wants the next best thing. I went with a 130” projector its amazing perfect choice. I‘ve played and watched nearly 7000 hours of games and movies on it, and till this day the projector works without a problem and looks absolutely beautiful. Bought a professional screen that retracts with a push of a button, bought the Logitech Z906 for 5.1 surround sound, which sounds extremely good for 250$. Hooked up my Apple TV 4 for movies and my PS4 Pro for games. It all cost me about 900$ but I‘ve got a completely finished home cinema in my room that made my friends jealous.

What are you on about? Professional screens are white. Movie theater screens are white as well. There are high end ambient light rejecting screens like screen innovation black diamond, which are dark, but they are not professionnal. They are for people who do not want to have the room treated for home theater (darkened walls, and completely controlled ambient light) but will never look as good as a white screen in a dedicated room.

You never use the projectors speaker. You are supposed to hook up the projector and consoles to a hometheater receiver. Gaming with stereo, or in your case monosound, should be considered a crime.
Also, you do know that you can adjust the zoom on the projector right? So you can have the projector behind you and fill up the wall as intended.
I got rid of my tv, so i only use my Epson EH-TW7400 UHD projector with a 108" screen and the projector is about 4 meters away from my screen, and i can go up to 150" at that distance if i want to.
I will never ever again buy a tv, because projectors are far superior to tvs when it comes to just about everything. Bigger is better
