I agree 💯 with you. I have watched Janet's career since she was with her family in Vegas at 7 years old and on their variety show. Janet has been a influencer, not a follower.

Totally disagree with you saying inspired by Madonna. No disrespect to Madonna. Love her too. But Janet was an artist that was a leader not follower. Love this song, such a funky beat. Totally underrated. And this song stays in your head.

I looove this song. This is one of Janet's best songs/singles of the 2000s era and deserved so much more credit IMO. The song is great but the music video elevates it that much more. The choreography is so smooth it literally looks like they're sliding on the floor. I think this is too dance pop to be on All For You or Damita Jo. It fits the late 2000s way better. Like your reaction though!

Janet been doing this since the 1970s. No Madonna influence here. If anything she was inspired by her family and earlier influences. She was in the game long before Madonna.

    I agree with you.
Maybe if you took the best tracks from Damita Jo, Discipline, and 20 Y.O. she could’ve had a decent album but the problem is she didn’t really grow as an artist after All For You and that’s why this song, even though it’s alright, doesn’t get tens.

I remember to in 2008 who i love the ''Feedback'' song and love the video of this. But when i listen the ''Discipline'' album (i was 15 when it's came out), i was massivly dissapointed of this. Irriting so much by this album and i didn't wanted to discover Janet work until i hear ''Come Back to Me'' when i was adult and in 2019, i wanted to listen her work. ''Discipline'' wasn't a great album at all. I think her 1986-2001 years was at her best and who she created and who she was at her most influencal. I didn't judging ''Damita Jo'' since i never listen the album. ''Rhythm Nation 1814'' was her best work and i never skipped any songs of this album. I think her work was better when she wrote her own songs.

I remember this. I really like this alot. It's very funky and smooth and sexy. Thats how i like Janet. I wish it got bigger. It was 2008/9 i think.
Yeah i also see Blonde Ambition here but thats cool. It was by far the best song on the album. I wish it was a hit. This smooth funky dance style suits her very well. The video is cool too.

Maybe it becomes a little monotonous for four minutes or however long it is. However, Japanese figure skater Kaori Sakamoto skated her short program to a medley of this and Feedback, and it was really good packed into that short time frame.

THE CHOREOGRAPHY WAS SICK!!! BACK IN 2008! She should have released the song "LUV", "Discipline", or Whats your name as her second single! Back then single picks were crucial in determining Album success! There was no streaming! She was also under her then bf Jermaine Dupri label "island records" which didn't promote the album properly!

    • @elizabethschubert7803
      @elizabethschubert7803 Před rokem +2

None of the songs were up to par with her classic material though. They all sounded like songs that could’ve been recorded by Danity Kane in 2008. This album just wasn’t a hit.

This was the best song of her worst ever album (Discipline) with 20 Y.O.! This was the second single of the ''Discipline'' album but didn't chart at all. Janet accused Island Records, the record company to not supported her has a artist and left Island Records a year after she signed with them. She signed with island in 2007 because Jermaine Dupri, his boyfriend of this time, left Virgin to work in Island. But the relationship rapidly falling and she accused the record company to not make freedom to write her own songs like in all her albums since ''Control''. Because she wrote only two songs of this album and the others aren't any credit has a songwriter and -co-producer in this album. She never perform again the songs of this album after the tour except few songs like ''Rock With U'' and ''Feedback''. After she left Island Records, she founded her own record company in order to make total control of her work and the album ''Unbreakable'' was released at her own record company.

I always LUV ur reactions. U can tell you are a true music lover. But Janet was NOT inspired by Madonna. Maybe similar but there's nothing new under the sun. Also note, this song was produced and written by Neyo. Not Janet's usual style but the studio and LA Reid, wanted her to try on different Producers for the "Discipline" album. There's even a song with Maroon 5 that's unreleased that I'm dying to listen too. Anyways, again, nice review. Check out some of her performances. :)

I had to stop the video when you said Janet was influenced by Madonna ! 🙄 Don’t insult her like that. Janet is in a league with no one but her brother. Madonna had her lane, Janet had hers.

Thanks for the fun reactions to all my Thriller pack picks Empress! I think the video and especially the dance choreography is really what I love about this Janet song the most. Also the beat has an 80s vibe to me almost similar to dare I say Madonna’s “get into the groove” although I don’t know if I agree that Janet was influenced by Madge at least musically. I will say that at one point Janet got more sexual with her music and look that at the time to me seemed in competition with Madonna so maybe there was some influence there lol 😂.

If the spirit ever moves you, listen to the Shep Pettibone remix of “Miss You Much” (1989). Then listen to “Vogue” (1990). Jimmy Jam joked about it on Questlove’s podcast, saying that Shep forgot that he had used the beat already for Janet when he mixed “Vogue” a yr later. Yup, Janet and Madonna were competitors. I like them both, leaning more towards Janet. That said, in my humble opinion, Madonna has my girl beat though in the tour dept. Madonna is much more creative and experimental with her live shows (I’ve only seen “The Girlie Show” live and it was spectacular). I’ve seen Janet 4x and while entertaining, she plays her tour very safe (to the point of being repetitive eg that tired, played out whimsical section 🙄).✌🏽

What I met here by the Madonna influence was the queer male dancers. As far as I know Madonna was the first pop star that had out male dancers who wore heels, bras, etc

I love this song. I kind of wish she sang it a little more loudly. Feedback was not my favorite album. The song Feedback was ok, and this one, but she was just doing too muchoif the whispery, sexy cooing and moaning during this period. It was just very repetitive.
