"When I Think of You" is a song by American singer Janet Jackson from her third studio album, Control (1986). It was released on July 28, 1986, as the album's third single. Composed by songwriters and record producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, the song is about a person who finds relief and fun in a lover. It was Jackson's first number-one single on the US Billboard Hot 100, and also peaked at number 10 in the United Kingdom.
Pitchfork included the song on their "The 200 Best Songs of the 1980s" list at number 48.[1]
The song was resurrected in 1995 when released on two limited-edition CD single formats in the United Kingdom, one containing remixes by Deep Dish and Heller & Farley, and the other containing remixes by David Morales. That same year these remixes were included on certain releases of "Runaway". "When I Think of You" has been included in each of Jackson's greatest hits albums: Design of a Decade: 1986-1996 (1995), Number Ones (2009) and Icon: Number Ones (2010). - Hudba
One of the best music videos ever, the camera constantly moves with Janet rare for a music video to not constantly switch cameras or scenes
Right‼
Still in heavy rotation on old school stations
BEING of that piano sounds like we don't have to take our clothes off
I heard that song before, I have to listen again
DANG...that video was giving ALOT!!! The voice overs, the dancing and of course Janets LEWK...go off Ms Jackson!! foreverobsessed with this classic Janet BOP! 🔥
🤣🤣right‼
This video was choreographed by the one and only Paula Abdul!❤️
Has she done any new music?
Go awf Paula‼
My All Time Favorite Janet Jackson's song of All Time!!
still one of my fvorite songs of her"s
Yes
It's CRAZY how much the intro sounds exactly like We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off by Jermaine Stewart. Another great 80's bop.
wow! i heard that song, not that you mention it it does!
@V.J. I've thought about that too. Two Minds Think Alike. 😎
@@jaquayvius ☺👍
Such a fun video. Very much in the Jackson’s innocent magic vibe on that studio set of a city. All “one shot” too! There are some hidden cuts throughout but still SOOOO much planning and rehearsal for both performance and camera choreography!
That one shot is what makes it cool, kinda like a big Broadway musical
I was in elementary school when this came out! Janet was the blueprint. Every female after her in the 80s tried to follow her formula.
I was 16 years old when this song came out.
Thick Janet still got them moves!
💯
🤣🤣
Control is my beloved favorite album from Miss Jackson!!!!
Just has that touch for me!!!!
I belive When I Think Of You was Janets first #1 in the states and her famous brother congratulated her for her achievement.
You'll love Let's Wait Awhile!!!
So cool‼
"Let's Wait Awhile" was My Mom (Who's Now Deceased) & I's Favorite Janet Song.
Her first #1 on the Billboard Hot 100!
1986 disco still had impact on top 40. It never died.
Iconic! Her first #1 hit, and that video is awesome, with the Paula Abdul choreography! Love that you loved it!
Shoutout to Paula‼
Janet loved old musicals and patterned this video after that. Very innovative.
So cool‼
At the time Janet reinvigorated pop music.
This sounds better on the radio I'm just noticed it sounds different on the video
Ms. Jackson getting some much deserved lately on here. Keep it up Empressionists!😊
A CLASSIC ‼️ Still one of my favorite Janet tracks and videos. I love continuous flow of the video. This was her first #1on the Hot 100.
Wow her 1st number 1, cool
I remember taping this video as a kid and re-watching it loads!
Rhythm Nation was probably her best album. But this song makes me smile.
Lol.. Naw this Album was the Best! This Albums were damn near ALL Hits and every last one of'em has been On the Radio.
aww us 90s babies, i have never seen this before either! Heard the song though. Miss Janet was so awesome in the 80s and 90s.
Yes, saw her 3x!! Well now you youngsters can catch up! You really have it made ..sure we had the 70s, 80s and 90s great music...but you can enjoy it all at one time!
That dance break at 4:38 was fire back in the day.
This song was more lighting when it's was released of the third single of ''Control'', because the two first singles ''What Have You Done For Me Lately'' and ''Nasty'' have more hard beat and talk more mature subjects while she was more lighting in this song.
Interesting ‼
Fire song, fire video, fire album ("Control"), and fire singer!
Janet’s most beautiful song.
You should react to her songs What Have You Done For Me Lately, Nasty, Control, Miss You Much, Rhythm Nation, Escapade, Alright, Love Will Never Do Without You, That's The Way Love Goes, If, Again, Anytime Anyplace, If You Want This, Because Of Love, Together Again and All For You please if you haven't already. And react to her 87 American Music Awards Control and 87 Grammy Awards What Have You Done For Me Lately performances please.
I Recently Lost My Mom Back in Aug of this Year and She & I Loved Janet's 'Control' Album. I Still have it too!! I Think I've told You Before. But Our Favorite Track was "Let's Wait A While."
However, just as I can see Me and Her Singing Our guts out to that Track; I can see Her Singing Her guts out to this Track and "Principle of Pleasure." This Album will Never get Old. It was the Best Album She had made!! She was at the Top of Her Game and No One could Stop Her when it came out.
I prefer the original “Control” album version, rather than all the talking in the video. Empress, I recommend you listen to that version to fully appreciate the lush baseline. It’s Classic Janet!!
Love the talking
✅noted
Okay, it's been 36 years and this song is STILL fresh! If there's an emotion I like to feel, it's joy and happiness. Her joy while skipping down the street is infectious. Listening to "When I Think Of You" makes me so happy, I want to dance!
Janet's hair may have been big, but it still wasn't as big as Dr. J's afro.
Bop! Originally another artist turned this down so Janet snatched it up and it was a hit for her.
Great move on her part

❤❤❤❤❤
I love Janet Jackson especially her Control album. Love this theatrical production!
This was her first #1 Hit!!!
I love this song and video. I was 15 when it came out
I can’t believe you are just now seeing this classic video. Please review her 1987 live Grammy Performance with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis
I hope a Patron requests it soon😁
@lanceflx63 Janet Blew that Stage Out with those Dance Moves!! 😎
This video was kinda spectacular back then, because it was a one taker and the whole production was huge. I wasn't really a fan of Michael, I liked Janet more, loved her dance moves and hair! Rhythm Nation as one of my faves. My first Janet album I bought was Control, loved Nasty! I think the Velvet Rope is her best album.
Wow one take‼Incredible
The song and video that made me fall in love with Janet. ❤️
This comes on the radio all the time!
Her first number 1 hit
🔥🔥
Remember back in the day? When women & men catered to loving & fantasizing over each other?? Black love was growing...then the industry had to do something different. Now u got what we listen to now
Great Reaction, Empress ! This iconic video was directed by UK director Julian Temple who had the UK hit 'Absolute Beginners' that year featuring songs and performances by Sade, David Bowie and others. Not a big hit here but I was a fan of everything UK back then mid to late 80s. This Janet video used the Remix version of the song so they could use longer scenes. Some of the Nasty Boy dancers in this video. Same costumes etc. Love Miss Janet! Abs Beg movie clips czcams.com/video/I15EF6XVaZA/video.html.
Thank u‼
Great song!
not sure anyone has mentioned, but Paula Abdul choreographed the video.
REACT TO JANET JACKSON BECAUSE OF LOVE
I f’n love this video
🧡 How did I miss this? 😂 I used to lovr this song! Tfs!
It's so good!
Another time that Paula Abdul choreography was a perfect compliment to Janet's song. This video gives me Bob Fosse vibes.
🎉🎉
Please, Nasty by miss Jackson next.
You should react to Janet’s Lets Wait Awhile
Empress...omg u don't know this song! Saw her 3x!!! I hope u sing during this! And please explore yr singing capabilities! Do it for me and my late sister... no do it for you.
Hallo nettes Mädchen. Sie haben ein sehr cooles Video!
Thank u
Did you do a reaction to the album version? I prefer that one better
Nope I haven't
The audio always bothered me. The voice overs are too much and the lead vocal sounds like it was recorded in a shower stall. But I love JJ.
🤣dang not shower stall
i have never heard this version. do not like! ha. stick with the OG.
Never really liked that duet she did with Madonna, didn’t really work.!!? 🤔
Huh?
You know what time it is Homegirl 🎃👻😊
Janet and Madonna have NEVER worked together. IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED. You are quite mistaken.
Wynnette Gray - I think you are the one mistaken my dear. I think you’ll find Paula Abdul was connected to it too.
There was no duet with them ever.
