Takes a lot of courage to walk onto a construction site like you guys did. Awesome effort! I did this five years ago at a construction site in Saint Kilda. I thought I had permission but turns out not from the right person. The project manager rocked up and thought I was from a current affair!! It took some quick talking to get myself out of that sticky situation!

I think the best thing to take from this definitely is that pushing through rejection and just keep on keeping on will get you places, assuming the people you did give product to like it, that could open up doors to many more jobs in the future and it's good networking regardless

His boss wanted shots of the job site every hour during the day, and he was "volunteered" to do them. Now, that's all he does. No more dirty work. And he got a raise. Everyone hates him because all he does is report how much work is\is not getting done. Lol

I loved watching this. It doesn't matter what gear you have or what you're capable of if you can't walk in front of someone and ask for the work. Admittedly, this is hard to watch when you know it's your own problem. There isn't some magic formula to get started, just that drive to go ask and work through your fear. Obviously, there could be some tools like an Ipad and a portfolio of sample work, pre-established pricing/expectations that would inevitably help your conversion rate...but, dang....seriously, thank you for putting this out there. If you're not asking anyone for the work, there's nothing to convert. Look forward to checking more of your content out!

I watched this video because I work in construction management and admire your confidence when trying to sell your services. Basically what I wanted to comment was that one of those guys was right, you would have more luck going through a marketing department for the construction company or through the owner who is contracting them. Chances are any of those multimillion dollar projects you walked on to already has a professional media company contracted, and almost every construction site has a security camera that is mounted to do a time-lapse of the building over the years it takes to build. You will only have success when you talk to the people who have the authority to spend money. Thats the owners.

  • @DomFix
    @DomFix Před rokem

Great stuff dude, never seen that from that perspective 👍
I know how hard sometimes is to get to the right person on a site, that actually can make any decisions and that's probably the most common problem with those big sites as you aproach them.
Since you went on those privete jobs things were very different and that's where I'am.
I own a small company and I make decisions on my own so it's all up to me if I need anything...
Also there's a big question on how I wanna show my work to the client's and that's why I decided to do vlogs and get in to filming, instead of getting a photographer on site.
It's hard to say when and how I wanna get things filmed or shoot foto's and that's where having my own camera with me gest very handy.
And last thing is, that there are some type of jobs where you wouldn't wanna put your 3k camera around cus of dust for example or paint being sprayed that can kill that in seconds.
I know how important marketing for a small company is and that's why I believe it's a must have for today's bussiness but it's kind a hard-ish area to get into

Some time ago I learned that there is "agriculture photography" genre, which has tons of money. At least in EU there was big demand for it especially when EU was granting money to farmers. Maybe try that? :D

even though there was no profit made from the actual shoot (apart from the youtube side) the video is more over-impressive as it actually shows that you are not going to be making money from the get go. more like a realistic and honest video if I'm honest.

I did this a few years back! Sometimes it's just a numbers game and you only need one to start the referral train - I get gigs now based off a £50 gym video I did in 2019 😅

Thank you for the great video. I have only one question do you have an FAA Licensed (Drone Pilot)
Everywhere on the internet, it says you must have a commercial shooting license. But it is a headache. I'd like to know how it is accurate, and in my understanding, it is not such a thing as someone checking it anyway. Please share your opinion about it.

If you have to use a tripod on a job site consistently - i highly recommend getting a bright yellow TRANSIT tripod and putting a ball head on it...
No ONE will pay attention to you with the yellow tripod - a regular tripod ALWAYS draws attention

every large construction company I've come across in the last couple years has already had an employee on site with a drone like the site manager.
I've had a lot more success shooting the building after it's done for their portfolio.

Made me think - and ask a question - Would the large film companies do a better job, than you did flying through the house. Apart from post editing with titles, music etc, Would it be worth the extra bucks.??
