what does 5k mean?
5k means you get the exact location of where they are on Google (give or take a few yards). So a perfect score.

As someone who lives in the Los Angeles area and has been to Phoenix and Tuscon a few times (but had only played geoguesser a few hundred rounds), here's what I saw that indicated it was in the Los Angeles area:
1. STOP written on the road is definitely more of a Southern CA thing.
2. The WM garbage bins. This is the biggest clue for me. Waste Management (WM) is a major garbage collector for most of the LA area. Tuscon typically has Tuscon or City of Tuscon written on it's bins and doesn't use WM. I'm not sure the Phoenix garbage collector.
3. 3 garbage bins. This is a huge one. Southern California has bins for each of garbage, recycling, and organic waste. These will be grey bins with the three different color lids. Alternatively, there will be a fully green, blue, and grey bin. Most other places only have one or two bins.
4. Street name signs felt southern California -- more of a vibe.
5. Hills in the background looked more southern California. Phoenix is more flat with distinct hills in specific locations with less vegetation on them.
6. The very tall skinny trees that can be seen straight ahead when the round starts are very common in southern California (specifically in residential areas like this with multiple near each other like they are here). I don't remember seeing them much, if at all in Arizona.
7. Plates. Yes California is supposed to have front plates. However, it is very common to see cars without front plates for a few reasons. People take them off for a better look on their cars and the police generally do not enforce this. Taxes on vehicles are generallyj higher in CA than other states. Many people who move to CA from another state will leave their cars registered in the old state and not get new CA plates. Also, until a couple of years ago, new cars did not receive plates for a couple of months after purchase. Coverage older than 2019 may have these plateless cars in them.

@@tadeaspekar9043 no, not the palm trees. I'm taking about the two skinny ones that you can see a group of three slightly to the left of dead center when the round starts. They are very skinny pine trees.

All of the things you describe are common in Phoenix as well. WM is the largest trash collection service in Arizona. Most roads have STOP painted on road surfaces. Blue signs are extremely common. Street names of that vibe are extremely common. Those trees are extremely common. Literally any lower middle class area around 1-17 looks like this, with the mountains that have vegetation prominent in the background. It's a good guess, even if it's wrong. The two areas are very similar.
At 2:25 the 2 islands are where my dad lived (he lived on the right one Mauritius 🇲🇺) warmed my heart to see em ❤️

he knew the state. state has 2 cities covered. 1 is capital. location didnt look big city (capital) so he guessed the other one (pretty small), making sense to the location.
