  • In this episode, Michelle and Alex visit three cities in the Netherlands that y'all picked for us... all in a single day. And they have no clue where y'all are sending them. Will the weather cooperate? Will the trains cooperate? And perhaps most importantly: will Michelle get some Limburgse vlaai?

You were at Woerden?! So awesome, you nearly passed our house. If you revisit I can show you a way into the vaults of the castle, there is a medieval prison cell and an original and rather unique oubliette (a dungeon/hole you can use to throw someone in and "forget" about them). You can also climb the windmill while it is operating and in one of the parking garages there is a Roman ship on display. There is some Roman stuff at the old city hall (museum) you passed, which has one of the only surviving medieval pillories in the Nethelands (at the right of the entrance at 2:50). Woerden was part of the Limes, the contours of the Roman castellum (castle) are drawn on the square near the old church.

A tip for Den Bosch is that the Bossche Bollen from Jan de Groot are sold all over the place, not just in their bakery. You can go to many of the cafe's and lunchrooms and get one, it will often be advertised on the signs.

I love this citytrip. The cities are great but riding the train is also nice because you can enjoy the landscapes without having the stress of driving a car. A trip like this is therapeutic. No stress (unless the train has serious delay 😝). Great video. ❤❤❤

I worked with a Dutch Elite-Bank in Den Bosch for a few months, in early 2010, as a management consultant. On the last day of my assignment I bought 50 bad boys from Jan de Groot as a treat for the office. They were €2,00 or 2,50 each at the time, don't really remember, but what I do remember is that they were BIGGG! I ate 1 and to be honest, a half-size would have sufficed for me! What you guys did, to share one between the 2 of you is just perfect. Great vids... love that you like our country! Greetz from Amsterdam xxx

I am curious what you would think of a city like Harderwijk, where I am originally from. It doesn't have grandiose structures like the ones in these cities, but it's a lovely old fishing town with a lot to see and do. It used to have its own university too, and throughout the city you can still find history regarding that, so it's not just any old fishing town...

Very nice ride!!!! Just a note about your comment about Italian panini. A panino in Italy can be slim (like a butter and anchovies panino in Turin) or super huge (like the panuozzi made in Naples) because just like anything else in Italy it depends on place you are. Italy is extremely regional diverse

About the (mini-)vlaaien: I told you that you should taste the real ones from a genuine Limburgse bakery! And I guess you noticed that the authentically made vlaaien are much better than the Multivlaai ones. Great!
And the Bossche Bollen: of course you need to go to Den Bosch for the real ones!
And ehm..... Next time could you visit Venlo? There's sooooo much to see there too (maybe you'd need a whole weeked to see everything, from the medieval castle in the northern village of Arcen with its beautiful castle gardens to the village of Steyl - Tegelen - south of the city center with lots of sightseeing locations. And of course the nice shopping area in the city centre. All within the municipality of Venlo)!

You were so close to my town Oisterwijk. You really need to visit it. We are a top 5 beautifull village in the Netherlands according to the ANWB and we have the most beautifull tree of the Netherlands. From Den Bosch either take a train to Tilburg and transfer to a train to Oisterwijk or take the 140 bus to Tilburg from Den Bosch that stops in Oisterwijk.
I personally really like our lovely forrests and lakes (vennen). We also have great restaurants, cafes and bakeries (Robert van Beckhoven, the famous baker from Heel Holland bakt lives here and has a bakery and café). There is also the EKWC which is an international renowned museum and workspace for ceramics, quite a few art galleries and we have a beautifull church designed by famous architect Berlage (who also designed the central station of Amsterdam).

The abricot vlaai is a linzen vlaai or toert. The dough is more of a biscuit dough. Normal vlaais have a yeast dough. The linzen vlaai is inspired by the famous linzen torte from vienna.

Woerden is sooo underrated, but I love it! BTW: what do you mean by "much nicer weather"? In the Netherlands, you just ignore the weather, and if you do, it is always very nice. As Nike used to say, JUST DEUX IT 😇

I think you should visit Valkenburgh in Limburg. I've visited it a few times and it is so beautiful. In my opinion it doesn't even look like you're in The Netherlands anymore. I think you would love the scenery amd architecture

Two remaining churches in the late-gothic style ?
But there are hundreds of them in the Netherlands.
Note well you just saw the big late-gothic cathedral of Den Bosch.....

this is what we meant to say:
De Sint-Martinuskerk in Weert is, net als de Grote of Michaëlskerk in Zwolle, een zogenaamde hallenkerk. Het zijn de enige twee nog bestaande voorbeelden van dit bouwtype in laatgotische stijl in Nederland.
this is why we typically do prep for our videos beforehand 😉
