Giethoorn is a really nice place to go to. I've been there many times. I'm impressed you found such a quiet moment with so little amount of people there. Most of the times I've been there it was very busy with tourist and the canals were completely congested with boats. But there are some alternative routes you can take just outside Giethoorn, that are just as nice but without the many tourists.

One of the funniest things you’ll see there is a Chinese family who, I guess, have never even seen a boat, driver sitting reversed in front of the wheel, driving the boat backwards......so funny!!

Giethoorn, is by all accounts a boring tourist trap.

Oh y'all should really try Schuddebuikjes from Bolletje on a slice of bread with creamy butter or instead of butter with thin slices of banana. They're speculaas flavored and I love it for breakfast :)

Sometimes there is also some horsemeat in a frikandel.

Dr.Oetker has other lines of frozen pizzas, with thin crust (whci some call it the "italian" type). The "American" line is the one with the thick bread-like crust. Which I think is the best among the frozen ones available. , and then the fresh Now, that "Texas" you got, it's only probably named for the barbequeue sauce. Those "hotdogs" you got there from AH are really on the very cheap level. There are better avauilable, in plastic packing (shorter shelf life though). Quality Hotdog and burger buns are really hard to find. For quick hotdogs I prefer the kit at Hema (4 buns and 4 saucage, plus the hema yellow sauce).

since you living in dordt close rotterdam, in rotterdam you have a place call go cafe rivium zuid or noord they are the same. they make all the bread themself and panini’s and sort of pizza slices/bread. those are gooooooood. the petit pain rauwe ham pesto and Pizza broodje Prosciutto (Ham) or Tonijn or Pesto or Salami or Magarita. or my favorites but they are all good. its near a gasstation where you won’t expect it but damn the food is good

Bakker Bart is not in Purmerend any more. So many bakkery's and groente boer's are gone. its so sad.

Once you transition to all organic produce for a few weeks you will notice on the very first bite how less desirable herbicide assisted, pesticide imbued food really is. You will also know just by the taste if you are being scammed with wrong labeling or contamination. The only food I cannot discern a difference in are bananas. I think it's due to the thick skin. There is a fuller spectrum of flavor in organic.

What high price for rent! My appartement (also not social sector) is €850, and I still get some money back from the government. The "huurtoeslag".

I’ve lived in 5 different countries and currently live in the Netherlands. Dutch food is pretty bad…they are definitely snackers and love to deep fry. Their main foods are mostly bland vegetable mush

40 years ago we are were looking up and admired all that the USA had to offer. It's seems a paradise, when you saw it all on TV. But now I start to appreciate, what we have in the Netherlands. For us it is common and usual. and not very special. Our supermarkets, our healthcare, our infrastructure. But I see more and more Americans (and Canadians) start comparing their lives in the US and Europe. And a lot of them are actually considering, leaving the USA, because of the things, you mentioned. Or are we just too spoiled in Europe?

Only option for hagelslag is puur or extra puur on untoasted white bread with butter. Toasted white bread is for smeerkaas. Toasted brown bread for psychos.

FIY many supermarkets here also have a specialty cheese section. I should know, I visit them often!

Ugh, 'Smullers' 🤢. They are the absolute worst in my opinion. Try their burgers just to test how bad a burger can get. Just one bite is all it takes to never come back there. The meat doesn't even remotely resemble a burger patty, it's more like round smashed frikandel. And I like a good frikandel, but it's not even that. Febo is certainly not the best, but I still *really* like their little grillburgers. They're simple, but great! I also quite like their grilled chicken. Everything else is kind of middle-of-the-road and you need to order their stuff fresh instead of taking it out of the automat. For the best dutch fries you need to go to a place that makes them from fresh potatoes. There are many of them, and the best are probably not part of some franchise like Febo or Smullers.

Surinamese food is one of my absolute favorites. Wake me up in the middle of the night with a spicy broodje bakkeljauw and instead of cursing you out of the room, I'll thank you for it. Most of these delicious Surinamese sandwiches will do the job. Surinamese food seems like this delicious fusion of Indonesian, Indian and Chinese food while still being entirely its own thing.

Jumbo is the most expensive supermarket imo. AH is pretty cheap when you just but their own AH brand of products which I think is of really good quality. Also the fruit and veg you get from any supermarket should be good. ALDI and Lidl aren't really that cheap. It's a bit of a myth that they are discount shops. You failed to mention the Plus too. They are expensive but sometimes they have really good discounts on products. Nettorama is another discount shop you missed and there's one in Dordrecht near where I live! They've got a good basic selection of pretty reasonably priced products.

Food in the Netherlands is crap anyway. The Dutch simply have no culinary culture. The closest place for foodies to travel to is neighbouring Belgium.

We were there on Hemelvaartsdag with really nice weather. It was so busy, which we expected, but we happened to be in the neighborhood. The canals were completely blocked, so many people in boats and also on the walkways. But it still had a very nice vibe. Really fun watching the people in the boats banging into each other and the shore.

I did go to Giethoorn few times in the past, before it became the hot tourist place it is now. Than it was a beautiful and quiet place in summer as well. We did go there on a small camping place and rented some kajaks. And I remember we did go to a restaurant or café after a whole day of kajaking drink some hot chocolate with cream. I still have that in mind it was the best hot chocolate milk I ever tasted. I remember it must be summer, but it was a cold day with bad weather, so probably that and because I still was a child, it make the taste of the hot chocolate even better. Probably now I would experience it differently. 😁 But yes the experience of the place it self was very good, maybe if I go there now when there is massive tourism the experience also will be different. I still want to go there some day to see how much it is changed by the massive tourism. And I have some Chinese friends who never been to the Netherlands, but always talk about Giethoorn, and if they come to the Netherlands, they definitely want to visit Giethoorn. So if they come I probably go there with them to visit Giethoorn. 😁

you guys have to come back for sure there is many places in enschede you missed out for example the airport which has a world war history and open area to walk in it will show you the history and alot of nature but we also have 2 big places where people can swim and do all sort of activities called Hulsbeek and Rutbeek & dont forget we have many small cities around enschede that is worth to take a look at which provides alot of history aswel enschede changed alot over the years the real enschede feeling has left enschede long time ago but this will only be understanded by the people living here but it still provides the things you need in a city

What a great video! IMHO, Giethoorn is BOTH a beautiful destination, and a terrible tourist hotspot. I didn't say 'trap' on purpose as obviously it's very beautiful and worth a visit. In our time there, our dutch cousins optimistically (or deviously) arranged for a bicycle built for two for my wife and I. What a terrible idea, but honestly... we had a great laugh and managed to stay out of everyone's way. But to your timing issue, yes arrive early and enjoy the quieter morning. It's so peaceful there. But by the afternoon the Chinese tourist buses arrive and the character of the place changes. That likely sounds awful, and just to be clear it's the quantity that's the issue. If it were bus loads of Americans they'd surely be louder and less well behaved. Lots of great food, lots of great cat footage. You guys have grown to the point I think you need a theme song. "Euro Bun Bun, Euro Bun Bun..." it needs work.

Fun fact: That little hole on the side of the beschuit was created about ten years ago, after people kept complaining that they couldn't get one out of the package without breaking one or ruining the package. So, it's there to place your finger and pulling it out of the package.
