Just make sure you put all of that profit in the bank because half of the concreters can't work past 45yrs old, and in the 35 years that I've been in the workforce, I can't say that I've more than 2 or 3 over the age of 55yrs. Back in the good old days, once the knees and back gave out there was project management, site supervisor, purchasing/procurement and safety officer and some other office and management positions to move into, but those have all been fast track into diversity and women in construction positions, So to all of tired, sore and injured over 50s blokes, sorry, but you are on your own these days.
This is so sad to me. My stepdad worked construction from his teens into his 40's then went to college but never could get his start. He told my sister and I when we were young not to be "stupid" like him and go to school sooner, that he worked like that so we wouldn't have to. Every day he came home in pain, covered in sweat, dust and sometimes blood. At the end of his life he wound up cleaning offices. He was actually the most brilliant, humble, loving, complex and amazing man I ever knew. He died at 52 of cancer. I wish there was something else for men like him, some other fate. It was magical the way he built things. The world would literally fall apart without people like him and other construction/concrete/line/road/etc workers. They should be protected while they work and when they can no longer. This country is a disgrace. We celebrate the useless and throw away the backbones of our society like they are nothing. It's time to turn this around and start recognizing the "little" man. He was everything to us. There are many "Joey's" out there that deserve support.
