Paul McCartney was asked a long time ago had the Beatles stayed together through the 70's what band they would sound like, and his immediate answer was always the legendary Electric Light Orchestra. Jeff Lynne has many ties to the members of the Beatles.
@staircase2 Actually had the closest relationship with George, being part of the Traveling Wilburys, and produced music with both Paul and Ringo at separate times. I've read his friendship was strong with all of them.
I remember when I was first exposed to ELO. I did not see any way in hell that a legit rock n roll band could incorporate violins and cellos. Then I listened to "A New World Record" and was blown away. Then I saw them live... and was sold forever! Respect to Jeff Lynne for his musical genius and willingness to think outside the box.
I get such a kick out of the joy you feel at discovering the music I grew up on---if it can be reliably determined that I ever really grew up, that is!
I donât even have to watch this to know enough to hit the like button! Jeff Lynne is one of the all time great singer, songwriter, musician, producers! So many great hits with ELO, Traveling Wilburys, even worked with the Beatles. Livinâ Thing, Sweet Talking Woman are a must, Jamel. Please get to Billy Joel at some point
Correct. It was also the first ELO song not to have strings. Jeff came back into the studio to record what he thought was a needed album banger well after the group and contracted orchestra were long gone.
Jeff Lynne another example of pure musical genius. @@gavdog12 Orbison had probably one of the best tenor voices I've ever heard. Hearing him in End Of The Line and seeing how they paid respect to him in the video always got to me
I really love this reaction. This one reminds me of my dad who passed away last year. He used to crank this song on his cassette player in his Scout when we lived in Ft. Leonard wood in the late 70s. It's probably also the first song I ever remember as I was 2 at the time.
Iâve been trying to pinpoint what it is about reaction videos, certain ones in particular that people watch over and over. Subscribe to, check every day, etc. At first I thought it was just the reactors really loving a song and being moved by the same things I like. But now, Iâve followed different reactors and kind of stuck on your channel because you like the music I like, and itâs nice to see someone else like the same things. It makes us feel part of something bigger. Thatâs a small portion of why going to concerts is such a church-like experience for me. Validation is a nice part of watching reaction videos, but itâs much more than that. I think in our busy lives we are not as connected to other people as we used to be. We donât have the time anymore to just sit and chat with people and listen to music together and talk about it. I used to do that when I was younger. âDid you hear that line said about...â and âYeah, but did you notice that guitar riff?!â âLast year when I listened to that I was going through a breakup...â âI used to sing this in my room after an argument with my parents/bossâ, etc. We used to just sit and enjoy things and contemplate together and songs were an avenue to open up about those things that we normally wouldnât have just brought up in conversation. I think a lot of us have lost that because of our busy work/parenting schedules, and YOU, Jamel, helped bring it back. You are very real and personable. Do you know how many times Iâve almost talked at my screen at you? Itâs like youâre here in my living room. Anyway, sorry this is so long. I needed to type it out and maybe some others have noticed the same thing. âđŒ
Noticed indeed! So much of this rings true for me! I, myself would listen to our only 2 pop/rock stations in Medford, Oregon while building tree forts, and model railroads/slot cars. I got a bit older and, YES, the skating rink, then dance club. E.L.O. Somehow fit into every part of that, as did so many of the songs you react to Jamel. I think you are a one in a million and love your show. I thank you. And thank you âCrannbeathadhâ, you hit the nail on the head!
Everything you say! Remember the thrill of saving up to buy a new album, rushing home with it to listen to it with your best friend, in wonder because only a couple of tracks would have been played on the radio, then dissecting all the lyrics ....... So much time, then.

Which is why Jeff Lynne played guitar at George Harrisonâs tribute. That legendary performance when Prince threw his guitar up in the air at the end and it didnât come down. Probably because of the FIRE he left after that solo...
Jeff Lynne has explained that he is singing a made-up word, "Grooss", which some have suggested sounds like the German expression "GruĂ," meaning "greeting." Lynne has explained that originally he did not realize the meaning of the syllable, and he just used it as a temporary placekeeper to fill a gap in the lyrics, but upon learning the German meaning he decided to leave it in. After the song's release, so many people had misinterpreted the word as "Bruce" that Lynne actually began to sing the word as "Bruce" for fun at live shows. ELO engineer Reinhold Mack remembers the term differently, stating that Lynne was actually singing "Bruce" as a joke in advance of an Australian tour "referring to how many Australian guys are called Bruce
Listen to Eldorado Overture/Canât Get It Out Of My Head. Some of their earlier 70âs material is more prog. This is off their album Discovery which came out in 1979. My father and I dug out his old record player last year and he had an LP of Face the Music in his old collection. Absolutely great album. Definitely second Fire On High
ELO has always been among the upper echelons of the most amazing rock-n-rollers on the planet. In this song - I can't say for sure but I always believed em to be saying Groose, rather than Bruce. As in just making a sound rather than a name. Back in the day when I first heard them - I was totally blown away! I'm glad you picked this one to react to
Jamel, The lead singer is Jeff Lynn, he was also in the travelling Wilburies with George Harrison, and Tom Petty. You should really check and react to the video for while my guitar gently weeps, at the George Harrison tribute concert, especially as Prince does the most amazing guitar solo
@Mike Loomis Showdown wasn't from their first album, it's from On The Third Day, their THIRD album, ELO's first album was called Electric Light Orchestra, their second album was Electric Light Orchestra 2 (or No Answer in America)
Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra from The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame site: "Picking up where the Beatles left off, ELO expanded the concept of great melodies, epic song structures and grand orchestrations. ELO added an exciting mix of elements into rock and roll, including disco rhythms and electronic studio wizardry. Imagine a marriage of tuneful, rocking pop songs with instruments from the symphonic realm, and youâve got the blueprint for what made ELO one of the most popular groups of the 1970s and beyond. Jeff Lynne, ELOâs vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, co-founder, and frontman, conceived of a rarefied musical sphere in which cellos coexisted with guitars, and where classically tinged progressive rock intersected with hook-filled, radio-friendly pop. The result: ELOâs boundary-breaking approach to rock that resonated with a global audience, both as a pop singles act and as album-oriented rockers with deep-track appeal".
Please do all over the world. There's videos of people dancing in all of the countries all over the world. It's my favorite song. Very inspirational and everyone would love it. Thank you so much for the videos in the past two days we just love this.âŁđđđđđđ¶đ

I just saw your Vimeo for Don't Let Me Down by the Beatles, and you were asking who did this one, and I was SURE I had seen a few ELO thumbnails in my suggested feeds, so I HOPED LIKE HELL that you have this one! YES YES YES!!
Edited to add - This song feels so good. I can still see my mom dancing like no one was watching, except maybe her 3-year-old daughter, lol. LOVE this jam!
Dude, check out some more Hall and Oates. Both âRich Girlâ and âManeaterâ are well worth a listen.
One on one, too.

I'm proud to say that ELO are from my home town in Birmingham UK. I love watching your comments and your enthusiasm for all genre's of music đ
Oh heck yea! I love this song! You never bring me down haha.
I sing Bruce when we got this turned up in the car. It's a great song to sing along to. Awesome reaction. Your joy is infectious.
Ya gotta do TURN TO STONE next! E.L.O. at the height of their artistic powers!
ELO Living Thing is a must as well
Who TF would thumb down this reaction video?? I loooove it! đ€©
I saw ELO in theâ80âs opening for Journey in Norman Oklahoma. They busted out the speakers on the first song. Broke my heart. But Journey was amazing. Just wish Iâd gotten a good show with ELO. Good band đ„°đ
hearing this makes me want to spin Children of the Sun by Billy Thorpe
I sing "Children of the Corn" lol. Simple pleasures.
@GreatNorthWeb
Love it! It really tickled me when they used it in "Fargo" (the series). I think it was the 1st episode of the 2nd season. Great & unexpected taste in the music they've used on that show.đ
đ
It also makes me want to hear My Sharona and go cruising! haha...
@@TJ-id6ee
Exactly what my best friend & I used to do back in the day, singing along at the top of our lungs! She's gone now, way too young. But music like that can bring back such happy memories.đ
Oh man! Children of the Sun! I haven't thought of that in decades. For a time I wore that out in high school. Thanks, Web.
You will definitely recognize âLivinâ Thingâ by ELO! Donât stop with this amazing rabbit-hole! :D
I was little kid, I had this on cassette, and I used to dance around to this in my bedroom in my underwear. I've always loved this song
ELO, Air Supply, Rush, Styx...all great bands (in my humble opinion).
Love your videos....but I'm telling you, "All Over The World" by ELO will have you DANCING!!! Lol
I forgot that one! Yes, should check that one out definitely. One of the first songs I learned on guitar WAY back in the day.
@@Crimsonams ...Fire On High would be awesome for a reaction video as well! LOL
I've been nagging him for months for that one lol
This one for sure. Will have you waving your hands in the air!
When you get a chance listen to The Rolling Stones "Can you hear me knocking" you will love it.
Oh I love that song!
Their greatest songâđđ„
@@klasseact6663 I think so too đžđ„
Has to be the version with Mick Taylor, no one else can come close to that guitar solo he does.
Can't ya hear me knockin'
Sympathy for the Devil
Midnight Rambler
The goofy Joyful look of happiness and grattitude when I saw that you aonce again acquiesced to our suggestions/requests and went ahead and dove into the pool of E.L.O.... Im Just plain giddy . Love the way you interact with your audience so open and actively. it makes us feel very much a part of the fun so, Thank you Jamel aka Jamal!
I remember being at my first roller skating party in the fifth grade, skating to this song with my first girlfriend. You can never capture that feeling as an adult. So nice.
E.L.O. stands for "Electric Light Orchestra", which is the name of the band. They were so well-known that everyone just knew them by their initials! đ It is a pleasure watching you get acquainted with them. đ
Another suggestion for Turn To Stone, or even Fire On High. The latter is an instrumental, but features backward talking at the beginning.
Fire on High is one my favs...the local carnvial used it in one of their rides. Childhood memories!
FIRE ON HIGH!!!!!!!
YAAASSS!! FIRE ON HIGH!
My father and I dug out his old record player last year and he had an LP of Face the Music in his old collection. Absolutely great album. Definitely second Fire On High
Love this song. It was the theme song for ABC Wide World of Sports that used to be on. My daughter also did a gymnastics routine to this song.
My fave ELO song. Loved it as an elementary student ages ago... still love it.
I love you Jamal, you are a precious human being!!! Love watching your reactions!
This song and "Jet Airliner" by Steve Miller Band are my all time favorites.
The best way to listen to the song "Don't Bring Me Down" is through an ald style four channel stereo. The mix is incredible!
This song came out my freshman year in college! Lots of partying with ELO!
Jamel do the song "Showdown" from their first album and their first radio song. This song got me hooked on their music.
@Mike Loomis
Showdown wasn't from their first album, it's from On The Third Day, their THIRD album, ELO's first album was called Electric Light Orchestra, their second album was Electric Light Orchestra 2 (or No Answer in America)
Your Journey continues.....one of their Greatest Songs ever !
Jeff Lynne covered all genres of rock, and still comes back to the Beatles.
"Shine a Little love" "Confusion" "Starlight" and obviously "Last train to london" my favorites of them
Please do all over the world. There's videos of people dancing in all of the countries all over the world. It's my favorite song. Very inspirational and everyone would love it. Thank you so much for the videos in the past two days we just love this.âŁđđđđđđ¶đ
I remember roller skating at the skating rinks and hearing this song over and over.lol, ofcourse when I was a kid in the 70's.lol
