Common sense dictates that one should only clean/maintain firearms in the privacy of ones own home either in the basement or the garage with the door closed this for two main reasons (1) it keeps your neighbors nose out of your business if they can't see your guns they can't call the cops and tell them that you threatened any one with them or that they fear you having them! (2) it keeps your friendly neighborhood pukes from seeing them and plotting to steal them! I was once packing my truck to go on a hunting trip in the parking lot of my townhouse when I was approached by a new neighbor whom I didn't know very well this woman began to very loudly question why I had guns ( I had my rifle case in my hand at that very moment) I informed her that I was going hunting and asked what concern of hers that was(I was a serving county police officer at the time and this neighbor had never seen me in my uniform or my patrol car) I finished loading my truck and left before I got two blocks I had two of my colleagues blocking my truck! When they saw it was me they backed down and started the usual pleasantries and told me that my neighbor had made a man with a gun call on me while we standing there the neighbor pulled up walked up with a smirk on her face and said good you got him thats the man! The look on her face when my sergeant informed her that I was a police officer engaged in legal activity was priceless! But it taught me to load my truck by backing it up to my back gate first just to keep my business discrete!
And this guy was a bigadier? With hi spelling and syntax it's a good thing he never made chief of staff it would have been world war 3 in no time!

I don't understand nor do I find in the constitution the right of the people to own property while the government dictates its use and disposition. The only right to property and its use belongs to the owner of that property unless it effects the right of another in its use, the government can only regulate the industry standards through regulation it does not have the power ceded to it from the people to regulate private property. Nor create law that impacts its use. The government is regulated by the constitution to not infringe on the right to keep and bear arms. That means hands off. No power to regulate private ownership nor when a man can exercise the right to bear his arms, there is no Law in the common law that can be enforced to negate a right of the people protected by the constitution that can be made. It is the government who needs to stand down it is on the wrong side of the law when it comes to the regulation of men and their property. And if the government does use private property they must compensate us for it by paying the fair market value of the item, the gov needs to get a handle on staying on its own side of the fence.

Chicago used to have a handgun ban kind of, but that has been overturned by the courts a few years back. Deaths in chicago are mostly the gangs not shooting straight and hitting bystanders. If ammo was cheaper they could practice more and not kill as many people.

The word "maintenance" has a different connotation in this context. Most likely it is referring to the "act of making the change", not oiling the gun. But it could leave the door open to the state requiring say a "certified" or "Licensed" person to do the maintenance. Typically government is always looking at ways to tax and produce revenue. That is what the licensing and dealer issues are all about.

Baker is a RINO. I made countless phone calls to the committee and my rep/senator. In MA, we are so outnumbered that there's absolutely ZERO chance of winning. The only possibility is to minimize the damage. I feel that we did that. The Linsky language was excluded. We could have had banned pre-ban mags, outlawed aftermarket triggers, and an entire world of shit coming down on us due to the ambiguity of that proposal. What was eventually passed, while unconstitutional in my opinion, was the best case scenario for this communist state.

I mean rapists don’t always get that long, so I feel if I get 5years I’ll be lucky. I’d rather have a pedophile walking the streets than a person who lubes their guns. What are these crooks, my bad, politicians thinking? Would cops have to get permission from their Sergeant to clean and lube after range time? Own a gun before trying to ban something you are unaware of. Not oiling a gun is like not putting your car.
People who don't know anything about something that they want to ban shouldn't be allowed to do so... it's insane to think that cleaning and oiling a weapon can make it shoot faster. Where are they getting there information from??? The Saturday morning breakfast cereal box??? Maintenance is part of keeping your weapon in working order, just as it is on your automobile.
