    It's about time some Birmingham derbies from the 80s was uploaded on here! lol. I was only 2 that year and really enjoy watching football from this period. I really believe football was better in those days. Love the MOTD footage of this one. :)

      I was only 6 that year but I totally agree with you on what you said about football being better in that era. Season 1983/84 was the first football season that I remember and it was great.......depending on who you support ofcourse. Ha ha.

    I was in the lower main stand. Howard Gayle was awesome that day. Team of hard knocks there. Tony Coton, Noel Blake and Robert Hopkins should be hall of famers.

      This was a craacking derby cheers for the upload. Howard Gayle never really got a fair crack at Liverpool. Played brilliantly in the second leg of the European cup semi final away to Bayern. But even in that game he was a substitute that got substituted. Never fitted in properly which was a shame but great to see him do his stuff for other clubs. As for YNWA it was used by lots of teams in the seventies.

      I started going in the 80s (im a chelsea fan), the atmospheres back in the eighties and nineties, particularly away was amazing. I went to Villa away back in the late eightees and birmingham away in early 2000s, both were good days out. i stopped going in early 2000s when I moved overseas. i feel like I went at the right time, it's not the same now really, so I don't feel like I'm missing much.

      bluedog15 in the run up to the 6th round of the cup, the unbeaten run that was maybe 12 games, he was really promising, playing really well. Then Barnes happened and he never recovered.

      Take a look at that Watford cup game, he never got anywhere near to putting
      in a challenge on Barnes,...undone by sheer world class magic for the first goal.
      Really struggled to marshall or shepherd Barnes in any serious way but Saunders
      always did give new lads a chance, especially from non-league.

      @fletch1114  Před 4 lety +6

      It's now accepted that YNWA is only sung by Liverpool & Celtic, but I'm sure Birmingham City fans (& possibly others) used to sing it in the 70s/80s.

      I started going to watch the Blues from 1969/70 and remember singing YNWA from the first games I saw.
      It was the Liverpool anthem of course but was popular with fans of a lot of clubs.
      FWIW Scarves were held aloft during singing KRO and YNWA and there was a trend to have a scarf tied to your wrists as well as being worn around the neck! lol
