    Let's say I have a simple flat cube extrusion in the shape of 12 inches in length, .25 inches wide, and .125 in thickness..basically long flat strip of material and I need to 'twist' it 3 times in the middle only about total of 1" worth of 'twists"...so flat for certain length, twist 3 times, and then return to flat for the remainder....any thoughts? thanks

    Anybody having problems with it not bending correctly and looking like a bow-tie? Here's how to fix it.. Make sure that the object you are trying to bend is going along the 'X' axis and not the 'Y' axis. So make sure that the length of the thing you're trying to bend is going along the 'X' axis. Rotate the object, on Z, by 90 degrees so it's going down that axis and try again. Blender seems to be very picky about this. I used 3DS Max for 19 year but recently came over to Blender and had to work this out lol.

      Damn I was about to start learning Max because of this damned so called "Simple" deform modifier. Actually you have to keep in mind that he you want to bend along X you need to choose Z in modifier options and vice versa.

    Sorry to bother you again but is it safe to UVW unwrap your models THEN apply modifiers when using bend or will it distort the UVW map?

    Any ideas how to do things like this in blender 2.9? Unfortunately all the tutorial videos on youtube is for older versions and none of them works (literally)

  • @oliviertij
    @oliviertij Před 3 lety +2

    Hello, thank for your video !
    But like some people below, bend doesn't work at all, IF I don't rotate the empty, 90 degrés, sometimes along the X, sometimes along the Y, no matter the axis I choose in the modifier, if the empty and the the object have their local axis the same the global, it's always wrong. I don't understand how it works... I tried to change the order of the stack, to apply the other modifiers, I'm never able to get a predictable result...
    Apologize my poor English, and enjoy Blender !

    • @TheCGEssentials
      @TheCGEssentials  Před 3 lety

      Make sure you've applied any rotations, scales, etc to your objects in object mode before using the modifier

      @@TheCGEssentials Glad you take time to lokk at the comments, and to answer :)
      Yep, even if I'm far far away from your proficiency with that marvellous software, I know a few, and forget to apply is the first mistake beginners do, but that's not the case here... I really don't understand...

  • @oliviertij
    @oliviertij Před 2 lety +2

    C'est assez bizarre, peu importe les Ctrl-A, la commande fonctionne autour du Z, mais si on essaye de refaire exactement de la même façon, mais le long des autres axes, ça part en sucette total...

    Followed this to the T and first time it worked perfect. Wasn't happy with one point on the curve so did another!!! Not been able to make it work since following each step carefully. It ends up looking like an X no matter what I do. "Reset Scale" - still don't work, Move 3D cursor - still don't work, Checked axis pointing right way - still don't work, tried around x then y then z - still don't work, whole new document and start from scratch - still don't work!!! Seems to happen a lot to me in Blender, Do it once and great. Try it again!!.....

    • @grunt22

      Sorted... this action doesn't look at the axis the way we do when rotating. Rotating the object sorted me until i saw the bend going as planned

  • @AndrewPRoberts
    @AndrewPRoberts Před 4 lety +1

    I don't know if the developers changed something, but I can't for the life of me recreate your results with the bend deform. All that I get is that wierd bowtie- looking result like at 4:56. I've tried bending around an empty exactly like you did, I've subdivided the mesh a ton, I've tried every axis possible. I can't get it to do what you did with the bench.

    • @TheCGEssentials
      @TheCGEssentials  Před 4 lety

      This is what I'd expect with the wrong axis selected. Is your empty in the right location?
