    Dillinger Escape Plan was one of the hardest bands for me to come to listen to due to its chaotic nature. Yet, here I am, proud to have seen them live twice and find emotional attachment to several songs a couple years later.
    And just like this video clearly shows, they are super intricate and it's so much to be learned from each instrument when dissected. It can seem daunting and harrowing, but wooooh the reward down the line!
    Andrew! Not necessary for a reaction video, but I recommend you check out this song again with the studio version or even a live performance and just hearing the whole jam with the vocals too. It's a trip!

      As someone who has been drumming for a few years I have been listening to extreme music for a while and had heard the name a bit back in the day. One day playing clone hero with my step brother and Panasonic youth came up on random. I was stunned. I didn't know what to make of it. Never heard ANYTHING like them before. instantly listened to everything they ever released. Did not like them much at first but liked the style and liked a few gems like Prancer, Farewell Mona Lisa, and more. Now I can just throw on their discography and know the words to any song that comes up and understand it musically somewhat...but I still notice little things in songs I never noticed before even after years of listening, and thats why I love them SO MUCH. Years later and they still sound unique, I find I need to take breaks from them though and listen to more normal stuff or everything that isnt Dillinger starts to sound plain and boring...

  • @kidtrinity2157
    @kidtrinity2157 Před rokem +1

    Totally agreed with the points made at the beginning there. Being somebody whose first instrument was and always will be drums/percussion, I'm eternally grateful that I decided to learn other instruments. Being able to interpret music in a pragmatic, mathematical sense helps a lot with composition. I primarily play guitar now, but I'm a solo musician and producer and my percussive compositions have definitely changed the more I've taken influence from elsewhere. Percussive counterpoint in composition really stands out when it's utilized effectively, and understanding how that works from a melodic standpoint is definitely something every drummer should strive to learn. My favourite mainstream example of really effective percussive counterpoint is Stewart Copeland from the Police, what an absolute unit of a drummer. TDEP is fantastic as well, had the pleasure of seeing them in concert in the late 2000s, awesome live group.

Nobody else sounds like them really. As a whole they are an extremely talented group of musicians. My twin brother is self taught on drums and after learning drums, he taught himself piano and dear lord that man is a monster. (this video was one of his practice videos when we were younger) Piano definitely helped him with getting all the “in between” sounds and timings down to the point where no one in the music scene here could believe he taught himself

    If you’ve never heard Dillinger you’re in for a serious treat. To me they’re the undisputed champs of mathcore, no one does it better or crazier. And their live shows were the most intense thing I’ve ever seen, ever. Just fire and strobes and back flipping off amps, totally unadulterated fucking mayhem. Rymer also plays on a most excellent record called Material Control by Glassjaw.
