Oh man, I realized that while I was reading it for the first time and it made me tear up like a bitch. Looking at it now, this sequence demonstrated that Thorfinn figured out what his father did and came full circle. Despite how horrible Thorfinn's life was before this arc, and the pain he feels for the person he used to be, he was able change and find his way young unlike his father. It actually reminds me of Iroh and Zuko, where Zuko was able to go through the same change Iroh did, but younger because Iroh did his best to teach and instill in Zuko what he learned when he was the Dragon of the West. It's so sad that Thors will never get to see the man Thorfinn grew up to be.

Every single thing done in Vinland Saga has a purpose. The setting, the actions of people, even minor dialogue is all done to build up the lore, the world and the message that the mangaka is trying to convey. "A true warrior does not need a sword". Time and time again this message is silently reiterated through pretty much every arc. You can really tell that careful thought was put into every frame.There's no filler, just pure motivation to stick to the theme, and build elaborate settings around that theme. It's fantastic storytelling and every moment of every arc has been memorable. This is easily top 5 of all time in my manga/anime list and I imagine it'll stay there for all time. Time to binge season 1 a few more times before season 2 drops!!
This scene is really emotional and concrete. From the sadness of losing Einar's love interest, to the rage of Einar towards Ketil, then Thorfinn's persuasion to let go his hatred, to finally embracement of reality through a scream of pain, the whole thing is really heart-wrenching and satisfying. Einar really needs a moment to mourn to release his grief
Man this was done perfectly. The music really hit this scene. Good job! Can't wait to see this moment and many more in Season 2. This arc made Vinland Saga my favourite manga of all time alongside Slam Dunk. Its really special and Thorfinn is a phenomenal character. Yukimura is a genius.

This is THE PRODUCT of a writer who gives heart and soul to his writing. This is the PRODUCT when there is dedication developing each character. This happens when THERE IS CONTENT and a message in the story to be written. I wonder if we really deserve this type of quality. It's beyond any movie I've seen for 47 years. It's something ABSTRACT. I can't believe how good this is.

I just watched the episode that covered this scene. And I have to say, it is one of the best scenes next to thorfinn talking to Askeladd this season. I know season 2 might not be for everyone, but it is the best arc and season of the series yet imo. The writer has done a tremendous job on writing radical peace, something that's extremely difficult to do without sounding too unrealistic or too ignorant. This season alone is a fantastic character driven story, and each character was written with so much care and consideration. There's not a single character that I hate because they are not well written. Thorfinns journey to shedding his hate and anger and learning his father's lesson in the first few episodes is a journey. That's peak writing. The author is the GOAT. Edit: Also btw the music is amazing. What's the source?
that is what thorfinn will find in the end, man cannot be his own master, we are all slaves, luckily we can choose our master, it is incumbent of us to choose the right one as it is incumbent to the wife to practice reason and discretion to be able to choose the right husband, one that will not only protect her but nurture her and help her create life and the wife is beholden to be magnanimous, respectful, and charitable to her husband

I get that what Thorfinn speaks about Vengeance here but again do we not punish a person who committed such a heinous crime. I mean sometimes its necessary to take up arms which is why law and order exist. Also I do agree with Thorfinn about Violence being the last resort but it should be a necessary one.
Good point, but personally dishing out punishment as a form of justice is a very slippery slope. If there are laws being followed, and it's done reasonably, then yes I agree justice should be served. But a single person with bias and an individual sense of justice, not following any sort of law, punishing those they see fit, is a recipe for disaster. For example, if someone is racist, they might view the existence of certain races to be a crime, and attack them unjustly. Like imagine if instead of taking people to court, we just let the police themselves deal punishment as they see fit? I guarantee some of those cops would kill just because they can, and then label it as justice. My point is, in that situation, yes Einar deserves justice, but it isn't right for him to serve said justice through his own volition.
@@Taelo I agree about the individual biasness of serving justice but its just sometimes feel hard to cope up with. Just imagine getting to see ur loved ones get raped nd murdered in front of you and the criminals are left unpunished roaming freely with no remorse. Also about a common law nd order system, its all depends on the people in power how they set it up Even in a democratic society we live today many a times a good person can't get the justice they deserve by the court systems we created due to being lack of evidences or proper investigations. PS: I m not any expert in any of it Just sharing my opinion.
