  • A tiny medal commemorating the Grand Old Duke of York. More links below ↓↓↓
The Duke of York (Prince Frederick) is commemorated by a column adjacent to the Royal Society. But we're looking at a small medal from the collection of Sir John Herschel - it's origin is mysterious.
Featuring Keith Moore (head librarian at the Royal Society) speaking with Brady.

Note that Brady has his white gloves on in the intro, but not during the walk back to the Royal Society. This implies that Keith (the only thing he touched outside) is an official artefact of the RS collection.

Brady and his camera crew are much more tech savvy than me, but when they got that visual magnifier out, I was inwardly screaming "Use your phone!"

I believe if you climb the statue there is a slot for the medallion in one of the fingers. This was used as a target for Herschel to test the collimation and resolution of his telecope.

it's obviously currency for fairies. a remnant of Newton's time as Master of the Mint, no doubt.

I think you had bigger objects... that bridge, Royal Albert hall... and smaller objects... all the microscopic stuff, but still beautiful objects!

I believe this is why it had the qualifier "at the royal society".

That "bad cough" may have been due to the constant coal burning in the dense city. He had the right idea going back to the country.

I'd prefer a tiny, barely readable medal that was so intricately manufactured that you'd just have to appreciate the amount of skill required to make it.

Reminds me of a coin in my collection, the 1/40 oz gold Britannia! Apparently the smallest coin minted in Britain in a millennium and legal tender for 50p (though worth more than that both in gold weight and for the arristry involved). Mine was minted in 2015 with modern technology amd is a wee bit smaller than this I think, which just makes this medal all the more impressive considering the time it was made!

I would argue that the grains of moon dust or the forams have been the smallest objects on Objectivity, but this is a great object nonetheless 😃 Awesome video!
